    GVR-4 A/F reading 19.4 at ECU o2 signal wire

Hey Callum, if you don't mind I'm going to eavesdrop on your thread. My car is doing the Exact same thing only mine is a 1999 Eclipse GST. I think it's amazing we have the same problem and two completely different ecus. I just downloaded EvoScan last night and found a logging cable. Going to...

2G Sudden 19.x:1 AFR, need ideas

Car is a 1999 gst and has been running great for a while. About a month ago it threw a fit while I was driving it and wanted to cut fuel while under 30mph. I took it home, keeping my foot on the gas the whole time during stops to keep a 14.x:1 afr on the wideband, and started in on the normal...

    2G GST trans questions

I browsed around a bit first, sent emails to our sponsors and even caught some on Facebook messenger for live chat, but so far I haven't had my question answered. I have plans on rebuilding a 1990 6 bolt from a manual awd talon and placing it into my 1999 GST which is a fwd auto. The rebuilt...

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

I thought about Link, but being I already have a '99 gst auto, it means that ecu isn't a candidate to even be chipped. I also have a '95 gsx ecu, but it's for a manual trans, I want to keep the auto. I haven't even looked to see if the 95 ecu is eprom or not. Using Link would require me to find...

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

Nobody I know has ever tuned a turbo motor, let alone a dsm. Tuning is going to be a learning curve, but the more I research about it, the less scary it seems. Will probably play with the 2g a bit first while the 6 bolt is being built, get comfortable, then do the swap. Thinking of getting...

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

Back to my original post though. Anyone have anything else to add on 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 compression ratios? I still haven't received any email replies from the handful I sent out, unless you count the delivery failure to Boostin.

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

Tell me about it. I've been sold industrial spark plugs because they said Mitsubishi on them, promptly switched my terminology to include NGK. At another place I had to spell Mitsubishi for them. Hurray rural farming communities.

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

That phrase, "someone unknown that you don't trust" scares the ever-living daylights out of me. Glad I have gear heads and grease monkeys for family. So far my eclipse has been a learning experience for everyone since they're mostly into American muscle.

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

My only problem is that I want to do the build myself. I understand I can't do Everything, but I'm not about to mail off my motor. I'd rather buy it piece by piece and go from there, call a machine shop for something special once in a while but not for the whole thing. Coming from a family of...

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

As an added note I looked up what exactly the airport had on hand, it's 100LL AvGas. (There was a chart there probably from a past date I saw with the two other choices.) The 100LL is rated as having a lean automotive octane of 100 and a rich aviation octane of 130 and is currently $4.80/gal.
  11. AntmanAndLittleDi

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

I'd prefer to stay on 91 octane since it's readily available here. We have one pump in town with E85, but they jack the price accordingly. However, I did get permission from the city to purchase aviation fuel from our airport (choice of 146 or 162 octane). Plus I'm still waiting for a call back...

    1G 9.1:1 vs 8.5:1 Compression

I'm preparing to rebuild a 6 bolt and use it inside my 2g. So far the setups on Jackson Auto Machine are what I'm aiming for, the Stage 2 motor and Stage 3 head setups in particular. My only question left (so far after loads of research) is in regards to the differences of 8.5:1 and 9.1:1...

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

Think we're going with 1g head and block. Did some snooping on other builds & like seeing lots of them keeping the stock crank for high hp setups. I'm a little torn between the compression rate goal though. If stock 1g is 7.8 and stock 2g is 8.5, but the most common rebuilt is 9.1, I'm not 100%...

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

Is there a strategy between using 1g or 2g head? Other than the need to modify the holes on the 2g head to match the 1g block.
  15. AntmanAndLittleDi

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

Planning on stopping around the 550hp mark, but probably still leave some wiggle room so we aren't stressing anything at that point. And we have a 99 2g.

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

I got an email in to Kiggly, waiting for a reply. I just basically told them what I have & what I want to accomplish. Came back here to make an update post and write down some more sponsor names so I can get more emails out. And yea, that search for 6 bolt swap, I'm still reading through the...

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

We're taking it all, just not using it all. The talon is awd and manual trans whereas ours is fwd and auto trans. Not really looking to do an awd conversion, or manual conversion (the wife can't drive stick, but she's a great driver so I refuse to take that from her). As for our 2g oil problem...

    2G 7bolt swap to 6bolt ?s

We just experienced a little piston ring failure on our 2g. (I think, not 100% sure) The car still runs, but is putting oil onto #4 spark plug. While driving around in the truck having a family meeting on the topic, we saw a gutted 1g on a trailer behind a shop. Talked to the owner & he said...

    2G P1103 and P1105

Yep, factory boost solenoid is still there and being used. I'm actually having a heck of a time keeping the line to it from kinking. The previous owner replaced the line with heater line and it collapses frequently right as it gets to the solenoid. I've hunted around my parts stores for an elbow...

    2G P1103 and P1105

The wiring harness looks good, for being basically 20yrs old. I'm forever checking plug connections and have even zip-tied a few that have broken plastic locks. As for just looking at the actuator arm & making sure it's there, that's all I've done lol. I was banking on a "yep, it's sticky and...
  21. AntmanAndLittleDi

    2G P1103 and P1105

The P1103 is showing as the wastegate solenoid and the P1105 is coming up as the fuel pressure sensor. I was curious if the wastegate solenoid not working properly would cause fuel cut and cause the fuel sensor to trip? Also, some sites list the wastegate problem as being a sticky actuator. Is...

    2G Harmonic Balancer?

If I remember correctly it's a Dorman brand. Still not good I know, but it's all we have in central Kansas lol.
  23. AntmanAndLittleDi

    2G Harmonic Balancer?

This is for a modified daily driver that is already eating it's second stock balancer. We are on our second stock balancer. It was new from Advanced Auto. Only thing I can think of is the car did sit for 2 years while we were fighting the auto trans. I'll see if I can add a pic before work.
  24. AntmanAndLittleDi

    2G Harmonic Balancer?

Haven't been on in a while, but in my defense the car has been running great. It still is, for once. On my latest maintenance check I did notice the new harmonic balancer is already separating badly. It's a stock balancer with maybe 5k miles on it. I have another stock balancer from an all stock...

I have starting problem when car is warm

If you can, follow your entire fuel line. Check for any cracks and leaks. Make sure the filter is sealed up good too. Just check the whole fuel system over.

Go for it! I agree with the "Contact Boostin Performance" statement though. Even if they're not running the setup you're looking for, they can probably point you in the right direction and offer some great advice. There's also lots of other great companies, definitely start with the ones listed...

Power surge when I let off gas

I have the evap deleted too, but no codes come up for it. I'm not sure if the previous owner deleted it off the ecu to keep the light from coming on. It's hard telling with my car because the evap doesn't come up, but the catalytic converter does and it's been deleted too. My car is a basket...

2G Am I missing a steel ball in oil pump?

You should only have one ball in the whole pump. Do you have 2 in your pics? Or is it just lighting making it look like 2? Please tell me you only have one lol
  30. AntmanAndLittleDi

2G Is this the stock turbo?

The catalytic converter delete is common, but usually done better than pulling wires. There's a bunch of companies that sell stainless exhaust without converters, they're so easy to change out & the holes line right up, no cussing or bending needed. Then just delete it off the ecu & you're...

I have starting problem when car is warm

Just for a quick check you can pull the injectors and check the o-rings. I usually go to O'Reilly and Advanced parts stores. Tell them you need o-rings for your injectors, they're silly cheap and easy to replace.
  32. AntmanAndLittleDi

Power surge when I let off gas

You can always clean the O2 sensor, but if it's malfunctioning it'll have a CEL. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't cause a surge though. I'd say focus on the fuel CEL that popped up and work on your known leaks, clear the codes then start it up & try again. If there's still a problem there's plenty of...

    95 eclipse 420a n/t

How many miles does the car have? When was the last time it's been serviced? Can be almost anything if it hasn't been maintained properly. Start with the basics: change fuel filter, check spark plugs and wires, check injectors for obvious build-up, change vacuum lines if they look at all aged...
  34. AntmanAndLittleDi

Power surge when I let off gas

My GST is an auto trans, not sure if a clutch would cause a fuel trim CEL, but maybe someone with a manual trans can clarify. From the looks of it with that CEL I'd say it's a save bet to start with the fuel regulator and injectors. The o-rings are silly cheap.
  35. AntmanAndLittleDi

Power surge when I let off gas

I've heard of the throttle position sensor doing some crazy stuff when they go bad. Mine was out bad enough that it only showed 0% and 100%. Talk about fun times in a turbo car lol

Very good point, bravo. And not to mention you can use this logic in Every part of your life. My favorite is at work, I have a remarkable connection with my employees because we stop and talk things through. So much can be accomplished through a simple conversation.I've been on other sites...

    2G Throttle Body/Turbo Selection

I think I'd still like to find a 60mm tb, I've been told a handful of times that my BBK will leak first at lower psi on average than a stock 60mm from 1g or n/a 2g. And I'm pretty sure my dad has some feeler gauges laying around from his mechanicing days that I can borrow. Who knows, might have...

    2G Throttle Body/Turbo Selection

Looking at the NGK website, mine are the platinum plugs that have a heat range of 6. When I picked them up from the parts store the clerk said they were pre-gapped, but the website says nothing about that, says they need 1mm gap. Add that to the checklist to double check. As for the gaskets I've...

    2G Throttle Body/Turbo Selection

Got all the vacuum lines replaced except the ones behind the intake manifold. Didn't feel like removing the intake to fit my hands back there. Almost all of them had splits or pinholes and the ones that weren't damaged were so dry they kinked when they were bent. The throttle response increased...

    2G Throttle Body/Turbo Selection

I read through the fuel cut symptoms, described as hitting a wall, that's not what I'm experiencing at all. Mine is a stutter with violent bucking or surging. (Kiss your coffee in the cup holder good bye.) It feels very similar to a massive boost leak, which we fought after we bought the poor...

    2G Throttle Body/Turbo Selection

We'e having a few problems with our car, mainly the turbo giving out (whistling with shaft play) and hunting a possible vacuum/boost leak. The car drives great, but it'll lose power (I'm assuming boost) at 4500-5000 rpms, buck, surge and never recover to push beyond that point. This is while...

    2G Rebuild TSI or GST?

We made the trip to the car last Saturday, but unfortunately the trailer we were borrowing was in terrible shape and both axles locked within 10 miles. So, we didn't get the whole car. What's even more sad, is the car was mis-identified. Instead of being a TSI, it was a GSX and in the most...

    2G Rebuild TSI or GST?

Thanks for all the replies so far! Figured I'd be opening up a can of worms, but it's been pretty good so far. What about any thoughts on dropping a 2JZ single turbo into the TSI? I can find motor, trans, drive shaft and rear end from a Supra for about $3k. Finding a Supra for parts to go in is...

    2G Rebuild TSI or GST?

If I were to restore the TSI, I would be using my GST to do it. At that point I'd only need the rear subframe. All the other parts are there. 2G Rebuild TSI or GST?

We are going to pick up a '97 TSI in the next two weeks as a donor car for our '99 GST. Our GST is complete, running, driving and just needs a tune to finish it up. It isn't pretty, needs doors, tail lights, front fenders, headlight brackets, weather stripping, new paint and the frame looks like...

    2G Funny Newb question

That's just it though, I'm so used to being able to play in whatever rpm range I want that I'll be honest in saying that I've never fully opened the throttle. I actually just ease onto it. Hence why I think it's my fault

    2G Funny Newb question

So, Antman isn't able to drive his car for a bit. Being a good wife I'll take it out & keep it limber. I'd like to say right now that I've Never driven a turbo car before, but I do have a 500hp camaro so I'm not afraid of the acceleration that the turbo has to offer. My biggest concern is with...
