  1. Street Build bkrathwohl's Galant VR4 #1228/2000

I am glad I found this thread. I was tempted to buy this car to save it, but having two already, and 5 other cars, couldn't do it. Glad it went to capable hands.
  2. 2G Control Arm Help!

What was holding the compression arm on if both the rear mounting bolts were broken?I have not looked at this in a long time, so I have to ask if the rear compression arm bolts are threaded into the front crossmember or the body? If they thread into the crossmember, you may be able to...
  3. 1G Need an AC guru. High pressure line is hot, but no AC.

Good news. Thought it sounded like you had something not quite right.
  4. Resolved Starter Mounting Problem w/ Pic

Really the only correct course of action. Please proceed. You have been given the reasons accurately in previous posts.
  5. 1G Need an AC guru. High pressure line is hot, but no AC.

It does not sound like you are charging correctly. you say you pressurized it one final time. With what and how? How did you pull the vacuum? What does "let some pressure" mean? What does "took some pressure out" mean? How did you add oil afterwards? Normally this must be poured into the...
  6. Resolved Starter Mounting Problem w/ Pic

They work in tandem. It allows for flywheel variations to fit the same clutch housing with the starter position being movable.
  7. Resolved Starter Mounting Problem w/ Pic

It is more than a spacer. If you look at the shape at the base of the nose of the starter you will see that it fits tightly into that plate. The hole in the plate locates the gear on the starter at the proper location to engage the flywheel correctly. Even if you open up the holes, the...
  8. Rear motor mount removal 1g

What is the issue? Stuck? Can't reach them?
  9. 2g Can Tie Rods be spun apart?

No they will not. The inner tie rod will spin its ball joint, but the outer cannot rotate installed (without lengthening or shortening) and definitely not with the jam nut tight.
  10. How bad is it to drive with my tie rod bushing like this?

Is it loose? It should rotate but not move side to side or up and down. It does appear to be leaking the grease, and water entry will eventually corrode the ball joint and wear it out quickly. Thus it does need replacement, but check the movement to see how worn it is.And that is referred...
  11. 2G Coolant overflow bottle keeps on filling....

Pressure test the coolant system. Worst case you may have a cracked head that puts cylinder pressure into the cooling system. That way you may not get coolant in the oil.
  12. 1G 1990 awd rear calipers

Not looking at my car at the moment, but if you are referring to the bracket that appears gold-ish, that can be unbolted and turned over if that is the problem. All years 1g rear AWD calipers are the same, as well as GVR4 both years.
  13. Lights slightly flicker

Possible. Also you may have a too low idle if it dies, and this can affect alternator output. Have you checked your voltage at idle?
  14. Resolved SS Brake Lines Leaking

You should never need or use any sealant, thread tape, Loctite or anything on brake lines. You need to verify if your flare fittings are correct. They should both be inverted flare type. Wrong fittings on the SS lines? Also, what is the condition of the flare nut sealing surfaces on the...
  15. 1G 1990 gst cassette wont load

The mechanism can get gummed up from lack of use. You could try taking the top of the case off and cleaning any built up dirt and grease. Or send it to someone who can take it apart and do it. This place fixes stuff.http://hrautoradio.com/
  16. Sewing convertible top

I am picturing this (hope to be clear):A strip of material as long as the velcro horizontally, perhaps two inches wide vertically. On side A we'll call it, facing the rear, attach (sew probably) the opposite velcro surface needed to attach to the window velcro along the lower edge for the...
  17. Sewing convertible top

The problem is, there has to be some slack for movement when the top is opened.
  18. Sewing convertible top

I think the original velcro or dual lock (can't remember which it was) is attached to the glass on one side, sewed to the headliner on the other. Adhesive will hold to the glass if installed properly. That is why I am suggesting a bridge strip to reach if the glass is lower.
  19. Sewing convertible top

You should definitely not sew anything to the cover, as any penetration will create a hole in the rubber membrane that lines the canvas and provide a water path.Is the velcro to attach the headliner on the window and just too low to catch the headliner fully? I would suggest making a bridging...
  20. Need help! 6 bolt to 7 bolt.

Make sure you are keeping the battery charged up. If not running regularly and doing electrical (ignition on testing) you could be draining it.
  21. 2G Wheel Bearings 2g FWD (Fronts)

There should be no ABS/non-ABS variation or A/T M/T variation as mentioned above. On Rock Auto, if not going OEM, I would use Timken (513157) or Beck Arnley (0516121) personally.
  22. axle play inquiry

When does the sound occur? My daughter used to have a 97 GST Spyder and it rattled over small vertical inputs. It turned out to be knocking from the ball joint in the compression arm on one side.
  23. bearings

Have to align hone, or the bores are not round anymore. You sure he did not mean 20 thousandths (0.020" or 0.05 mm)? Two thousandths is not a normal cut at all.
  24. Need some help picking a trailer!

Anything over 3000 lbs requires trailer brakes. U haul trailers may have hydraulic surge brakes (the cargo trailers do, not sure about the car trailers). I have pulled both open and enclosed trailers with my Ram. I moved four cars last year with an open aluminum trailer and really liked how...
  25. 2G Ignition intake failure

The Euro spec 2g 4G63 cars were 2.0 NA as mentioned, with a higher compression ratio. That engine was not used in the US that I recall.I would definitely look at the MAF and/or the wiring, as 2 of those 3 codes are for sensors contained in the MAF itself.
  26. Hardline help

Have not looked at mine in a while, but it looks to me like half of the turbo oil feed line from the OFH (not all of it, as that is two piece).
  27. Quarter glass help, 1g

If you don't have the tool to cut the butyl rubber holding the window in it is difficult. You may want to ask a glass company how much to take it out for you.Or, I have heard of people using wire (like piano wire) to saw through and remove it, but you have to either cut or drill a spot for...
  28. Anyone use a 3 wire c.o.p??

I attempted this a few years ago by keeping the stock power transistor (what fires our coils based on ECU trigger) in the circuit and trying to use it to fire the transistor in the 3-wire Endeavor coils I was using. Could not get it to work, but I am not very smart with electrons, at least in...
  29. GVR4 budget track/daily build.

Need some finished pics of assembled car after the paint.I am in Bloomington if you need any parts. I need to clean up the garage, and I have two GVR4s.PM me if interested.
  30. 2GB Eclipse GSX Wheels Need Centercaps Info Needed

I recommend you get center caps from the either the late 3g or 4g eclipse. They fit differently, and stick out a bit, but snap in and don't use any metal clips to rust. I like the 4g style that have the chrome three-diamond.
  31. GSX_TC1's 91 Galant VR4 #550/2000

I hope you cleaned off all those filthy fingerprints!LOL
  32. New alternator, still overcharging.

Actually measure with a VOM at the positive battery terminal to ground with the car running to see the actual charging voltage (in case the gauge has a problem). The regulator is inside the alternator. The fan is a different problem all together, and may be contributing in some way...
  33. ABS Delete

Probably true with systems available in the '80's and '90's, but not categorically true anymore.
  34. Charging system problem

I suspect a bad or insufficient ground in the instrument panel area. Make sure all yours are clean and connected.
  35. 1g knuckle wont align

Try rotating the axle cup at the trans a little, and apply firm but not jarring pressure on the axle with the knuckle/hub assy.
  36. Is this a decent/good buy?

So I found this ’98 Eclipse GS (unfortunately, would prefer a GST or GSX), automatic (even more unfortunately), but the car is in immaculate shape with only 61k miles. Black, but the paint is in great shape. The proverbial “old lady” owner who bought it new, and has kept it in a garage and...
  37. wire tuck, now car runs like ishhhhh.......

The idea is that you need to repair the wiring to that injector properly, and not hack anything else. Go through the wiring meticulously and systematically to find your problem. A wiring issue you may have caused in your changes is not going to be something someone can fix for you over the...
  38. 99GS Spyder Top Replacement Parts

Are you sure the shear pins in the motors are still intact? Had that happen on my 97.
  39. Head Bolts,Replace or Not?

Please listen to what Bogus said, and stop spreading the false information that 1g 6 bolt head bolts are TTY. They are not. That started with the 7 bolt designs. Check the service manual(s).
  40. 1g Head on a 2g 7bolt

It should not be based on merely "views and opinions". That is why he asked you for a definition. The specific goals and usage determine which would be better for any given setup. Bogus explained it well. Not attacking here at all either, just that as mentioned, a blanket such and such is...
  41. Factory MOD September 21, 2013

See the Official Flyer in the Springfield forum.
  42. Resolved Do you have a photo of the 1g Sunroof bag?

I sold one of those bags on here about 6 weeks ago, but the classified ad is probably gone.
  43. Help me Please! Driver side front wheel problem

The lower lateral arm and compression arm are both forged components, so very tough and unlikely to bend easily. I would also look at a possible bent crossmember (the area where the lower lateral arm mounts). The compression arm can be pushed back, but this would possibly rotate the knuckle...
  44. My first DSM build thread

Exhaust manifold doesn't look stock to me. Sure the turbo is?I wouldn't personally go down the road to ruin of taking both cars apart...
  45. Will 99+ gallant strut assemblies fit a 2g

The 94-98 Galant in North America, and also the 8g Galant in Japan. Maybe that is the Galant you are thinking of when you say 99+?
  46. 1g ECU question gvr4 in a gst

Are you using the stock chip, because they are different. The maf profiling is different between a 1g and a VR4.
  47. galant vr4 alternator in 93 gsx auto?

Yes, direct fit. I don't know the answer about the fuse though. What are you changing, the rating? What is it now?
  48. 2.5'' downpipe that let's you keep the cat ?

Pretty much aftermarket cats are not legal in California.
  49. Crank angle sensor cause of bad gas mileage?

First off, your crank sensor is merely an input, and if functioning properly will not detract from your fuel mileage. I don't see his point.
