I just moved to Wisconsin so youre not TOO far away from me. i can add you to a wisconsin dsm page on facebook if you like. They are very helpful and knowledgeable
Also find a local machine shop with a good reputation to have your block machined. When disassembling look for any grooves or discolorations on the bearing. Any marks on the top of pistons and any if theres any foreign material in the oil pan
Was it running when you bought it? My suggestion is disassemble it yourself and take notes of everything if its your first time. http://www.amazon.com/Build-Max-Performance-Mitsubishi-4g63t-Engines/dp/1613250665. Worth buying.
I recommend changing the tensioner so that it wont skip a tooth later on. Looks like the water pump is leaking as well. Replace the pump, tensioner, and belt at once. Have you had a chance to pull the pan yet?
Alright sorry hard to tell from the video. A rod knock is usually louder near the bottom of the block rather than the top. A few things can cause a "similar" sound in the head but not as pronounced as a lower knock. Try removing the VC and testing rockers and inspect your cam lobes. While your...
This may be just the video but it doesnt rhythmic enough to be an internal knock. Just based on the video and from what i hear from it it sounds just like a knock from the power steering pump that happened to my old roommates gst. Look for any bolts making contact and diconnect the belt for the...
My 99 GS had a white banner at the bottom of the windshield that said #ratchet. I would suggest putting it at the top because the bottom location is hard to see from the exterior. Half my banner seemed hidden
Does the wheel feel hotter to the touch than the other wheels after drivin? If you remove the wheel do you see any metal flakes or places that are shinier than others as if it were making contact? My original guess was a wheel bearing but that sounds too high-pitched to be one
Yes usually a bad 02 would throw a code. Do you have a CEL on at all? The egr valve recirculates exhaust through intake. Black smoke is usually a sign of a rich condition possibly amplified by the egr delete. Lower the octane again and see if it improves.
I will check my box tomorrow and send pictures but i believe you are on the right track. I had an issue with my othe eclipse 99 GS where the alternator went bad and instead of popping the alternator fuse it popped the Engine fuse. Are you hearing any clicking from the starter or is complete...
Black smoke typically means you're engine isnt burning the fuel completely. You either got some bad/dirty fuel (doubtful since it sounds like youve been getting new gas often) or have a problem with your emissions system, usually a bad oxygen sensor
More than likely it willnever look the way it used to but you can try fiberglassing and repairing the section and paint the whole hood. That way youll still have the light weight hood
