Unfortunately I think the exhaust dowel was at the 9oclock position an the intake was at 6oclock. So then if anything is bent it would be the exhaust valves? Now topically with these engines, if a valve is bent does it usually mean damage to the valve seat? Could I be looking at a new head...
If this is the case then that would be amazing. I've talked to a few people I know at work and it seems that half think the valves should be fine, and the other half think they are likely bent. Guess there's no way of knowing for sure without getting a look. I think before I do a compression...
Okay sounds good, I'll do a comp test and see if anything seems to be too low and go from there. I'll update as soon as I get the chance, probably Saturday. Thank you very much.Definitly relieves my stress a bit. Very good to hear. And yeah there didn't seem to be any kind of irregular...
I thought this only applied when internals were replaced? I didn't do any work below the head. Also for a compression test (which I have never done before), shouldn't the engine be warmed up? I'm obviously not able to start it so should I do the test or will it be inaccurate?Should my next...
Thought so too, and it turned over smoothly by hand and didn't seem to have abmornmal resistance.Okay that sounds like it shoulnt be too hard, I'll do that ASAP. What do you mean by my rings haven't seated?
The studs were torqued to ARPs standard, can't remember off the top of my head what it was but yes they were torqued and everything put together and ready to go.As far as the TDC, I know I checked the second time around, but now that you mention it I don't remember checking before the first...
I got myself into more than I could handle. My dsm is new to me and this is the first time I've done any real engine work, so bare with me.About 2 months ago (like 2 weeks after buying my dsm) I blew my head gasket. There was a large amount of oil in the coolant, and later found out that it...
That looks really good, especially on white I like the contrast.I'm thinking the same thing, I really like it but don't want to cut the bumper up. I think I'm just goin to paint mine.
Most of the work done to my car was done by the previous owner, I've only had it for about 3 months. Yesterday I took the battery holder out, and found a vacuum line stuffed below that wasn't hooked up, and it lead to the firewall. Just want to know what this was originally for in case it's of...
Yea I figured it would work the same, if its fabric it would probably contour to the stock. Not going to buy one just to find out it wont work though lol, but I found one for the stock/evoIII for 120.
Same thing on my back dsm, haven't had time to figure it out yet but I'm assuming it's from the seal around the hatch. Opened it up after the hurricane as there was a LOT of standing water
Thank you very muchGot what I needed from a local auto parts store. Gave them the felpro number and they had a generic one for $1, they wouldve had to order the felpro. Thanks man.
I bought that same one on amazon. Put it on and ran the car for a day, next day I open the hood and it leaked everywhere... Hopefully you have better luck
Got it online and just assumed it came with it. Yea I guess I could just go and bring the stat. Wasn't sure they carried just the ring. Guess I'll find out thanks guys.Okay how much do you want for it?
Never occurred to me to look for ones for the evo, that's a great idea. I'll have to check it out. Definitely want to be able to remove it.And as far as the spark plug well, I have a 1g cover I got from someone on the marketplace. I'll probably just use gasket sealant around it at least on...
Going crazy, I've looked everywhere to find the size o ring that goes around the thermostat in a 2g gst. Need to order one asap so if anyone knows the size off hand please help me out. Thanks.
No sorry I don't and I won't see it again until saturday, but I have a kinda far shot of the hood open in my pics if that helps at all.
Rsz Img 3684 - DSMtuners GalleryI know it's probably not possible, but I'd like to find a way of covering them without losing functionality. Maybe a sheet...
I have an evo III carbon fiber hood, which has 2 decent sized vents right above the exhaust manifold. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how to protect my engine from water damage by somehow covering the vents? Not sure that it's necessary, just looking for some feedback. I don't have the...
I'm gonna have to pick one of these up myself. Like it better than wrap, and will cover my ugly ass evo III manifold. Nice find. Any idea on the lifespan on these blankets?
Lots of helpful info and suggestions thanks everyone for pitching in. As soon as I noticed oil in the coolant I immediately stopped driving the car. It wasn't long enough to build up or do damage, so I feel that seafoam and a couple oil changes might do the trick. I have a limited amount of time...
I was considering seafoam, didn't know you could put in in gasTell me both then I'll decide lolI know this is the best and most efficient option, just don't have the money for that. Looking for a way while it's still in the car. Anything I need to do before the head is installed?
I'm in the process of putting in a new head gasket. My old one blew due to the headbolts, and the oil and coolant completely mixed causing my oil and coolant to look like peanut butter.Looking for suggestions on how to get this mixture out of the oil lines and block. After install should I...
Looks good on white, and I agree with leaving the center clear just because they are so rare. They look good slightly smoked but if they are too dark you lose the rarity.
I don't plan on rattle canning anything on my dsm, but I agree that it has potential. Here's a pic of my jeep (fully rattle-canned matte black), and my celica (did the wheels and black accents around). You just have to take your time, clean, sand, clean, and paint
Wow that last rendering looks sick. I actually really like the look of that style on the 2g. I agree that you could probably cusomize a stock bumper and get a similar look. Might have to mess with a spare bumper and see what I can do...
Badass man, I always wanted to get into this kind of racing but not much opportunity around where I live. The 1g looked great. What do you plan on doing with your new talon?
I'm no mechanic but sounds to me like a faulty battery or maybe alternator. Clean the battery terminals and make sure they are not loose, and of it persists get your battery checked. Auto parts stores can also check an alternator while the car is running. I'd say start with that, my buddy had...
To me that is a hard desision... I mean I'd probably go with the gsx for the awd but I would have a hard time driving an auto... All depends on what you plan on doing with it. The gsx is better and has lower miles, and if you can live with an auto I'd go with that for sure.
Wow that looks great! Amazing engine compartment man very clean, I hope to have mine looking like that in the near future. Thank you for your help, I'm about to read up.
If you are replacing the turbo I'd look into the 16g. I believe the normal 16g won't require injectors or fuel pump upgrades if you plan to keep stock boost. I like their results, and they are pretty cheap too. Or you could go with the big 16g or evoIII if you wanted to get into those upgrades...
That is exactly what I needed thank you very much. Anybody know of a relatively cheap, readily available flexible metal hose anywhere that would work? I was going to take a look in home depot. I just don't want to use radiator hose, I know it will would work fine but looks kinda cheap.
I need the inner diameter and it's a ngr blowoff and an ingen intake. Like I said I don't have access to my car at the moment. I'm planning on using some type of flexible metal hose that I'm going to try and find at home depot or an auto parts store. Just need to know the inner diameter so I can...
I'm trying to find out the DIAMETER of the recirculation hose that goes from the bov to the intake, my car is being worked on at my friends house and I can't go there until monday to measure it wondering if anybody can help me out?Trying to replace it because mine is kinked, thanks.
They were pretty fine pieces. All stuck together on the outside of the silicone. But like I said they weren't anywhere else, none in the oil, and none visable under the valve cover.
Okay so barely had my car 2 months, already having issues. I took off the spark plug cover, and underneath was metal shavings in the corners. My first impression was oh crap my engine is screwed, but I scrapped some of them off and underneath was silicone covering up a few cracks.I drained...
