EXACTLY what I was thinking. I have known dozens of people spend $20k+ on a build only to have a simple piece of debris or metal hit the exact wrong spot and crap the entire engine/build.
Thank you for reading/helping.
I own a 96 TSi FWD (5speed). Trying to get it to haul ass, simply put. It all started with a broken balance shaft belt....
So, the following were installed:
~1G CAS (it is wired properly, the ecu pins are swapped AND the plug wires, PLUS there is a potentiometer if...
Car is an amethyst 96 FWD 5 speed TSi. Exterior is 8/10 (body is straight, dings here and there). Paint is great for the age. Interior is 8/10. New cylinder head/gasket, 14B turbo with 7cm exhaust housing, Comp 101200 camshafts, Precision FMIC kit, ALL manifold seals, vaccum hose, oil pump...
You should always do a boost leak test on these cars before you put the motor to it. You likley have a vaccum leak. I recently put a 14b on my 95 and had three leaks to take care of I didn't fathom to leak.
Congrats on the decision and on the kid! Yes, owning one of these cars is going to be frustrating IF its what you use to get around. If you have other methods of transportation and the car can be down, its all good. Theres all the information you need to do anything imagineable with these cars...
To see if the CEL is still existant, disconnect your battery and let the car sit for a few minutes. Reconnect and start the car. If the CEL was from the loose connector then it should be fixed. As far as getting no power to the OBD port, check the wires. You can take the sheathing off and trace...
In my opinion there is no way it would just be your head gasket. If your head gasket is leaking, there is a reason. Period. The head or block has been used/abused to the point of one of them warping somewhere, resulting in a leaking head gasket. It would be pointless (in my opinion) to replace...
You replaced your entire head without disconnecting your battery and you expect your car to start? You need to learn what your doing before you do it. Crawl before you can walk.Did you happen to try to buy an ECU off ebay? Someone tried to bid on mine about this time a month ago from sweden...
I would lean towards leaving the car there until you can get tools to check it out. Cranking and cranking and pushing something that possibly broke (as shit) isnt a good idea. Drop the oil pan and plastiguage the rod bearings. Look/magnet for metal in the oil. I just got my first running DSM a...
Yes, I have just recently (3 days ago) taken out the cams. Everything else has been in place the entire time (including the camshafts, up until 3 days ago). I'll install the cams and degrease it. Thank you
I have my car apart and a refreshed head sitting in my garage. I may as well spend the extra half hour of work to install it while I am there. My question is not related to the mechanical aspect of the installation, but what to do to clean every bit of dirt/foreign object out of this thing...
Check spark plug gap (.28-you should NOT expect new plugs to be gapped properly), do a boost leak test. Check (or set) the ISC/BISS, clean the oil/crap off the throttle body. I would check the last things I mentioned first. As far as the chirp, there is no way to tell, the only way I could...
Great choice of a first (or second) vehicle. Hope it treats you well. As far as the transmission issue your having I believe we (well, I) will need more information/clarification of the issue. And thank you for using what you learned in school (grammar), most grown adults lack that gift these...
^^
Pick up a 190lph walbro or a Evo 8/9/10 pump for cheap especially if you dont have immediate plans for power out of the aforementioned pumps fueling limits. Its alot less of a hassle than trying to find all the right fittings needed to install that fuel pump and regulator (and will likley...
STILL have this at my house. Its a partout car if anyone needs anything off this thing. Frneder, hood, bumpers, interior, guage cluster, suspension arms, diff, driveshaft, transmission, headlights, hatch with good back glass, power steering, oil cooler, alot of other good parts left on/in her.
I am not 100% sure on this, as I have never researched anything on the 420A cars, but I am 99% sure you will need an auto TCM/ECU, the new automatic transmission has nothing to use as input to go off of to control itsself with a computer out of a manual transmission car.
Looks like a good buy. Is the engine on that car stock? THATS a rare find. Ha.
I may have never seen those wheels in my entire life, I am not a wheel guy so I am of no help there.
Welcome to the forum, from another newcomer.
Thank you for the welcomes. I have already been helped tremendously by the information here.
Yes, I am an educated individual-I just like making fun out of things occasionally (perhaps the aideu was put there instead of ado due to that)...Yeah, I always work on my own cars unfortunatley...
Name is Garrett (obviously), I'm from southeast Texas. Currently have a 96 TSi FWD 5 speed. Car is broke two weeks after buying it (previous owner recently did timing belt "job"-a job seldom done correctly on these engines...the 15 year old balance shaft belt surely wouldnt need replacing)...
yes, theyre on 7 bolts. just take the 4 bolts out and your set. along with all the other crap to do the BS delete. I am doing that right now and I must say it is a royal pain in the ass with the engine in the car. I would have honestly rather have taken the motor out of the car to do it
smoke test it as far as you can. if you dont get anything follow the line, inspect everything fuel goes trough to the injectors, it could be anywhere. did you test it after the fuel filter or before? could be the wiring, filter or the pump also contributing to the pressure. the issues may be...
That is exactly what I wanted to know. Its not that I am not getting somehting to tune the car with ever, just dont have the $500+ right this moment and need to be able to drive my car. I apprecieate the help! I will likley keep it at wastegate pressure but I was just wanting to know in case...
Start: yes, I did search. Could not find this specific scenario. I am in the process of installing a few things on my 2G TSi and was just looking for some input as far as what you personally would feel comfortable pushing the stock injectors/tune to. I know it is almost pointless to have cams...
could be running rich, could be blowby from bad piston rungs, bad turbo seals, head gasket, alot of different things. Compression/leakdown test is where I would start if your tuning is good. I would suspect a 16g on a side mount could possibly play a role in destroying things..
I would drain the coolant, take out the thermostat and replace the coolant with water (flush the coolant system in this process). Drive it, if all is well its your thermostat or coolant, a quick and easy fix. If its still overheating its probabally your water pump or head gasket. If its not the...
Shocks could be blown, the larger sidewall would have absorbed more of the shock than the new tires with the smaller sidewall. Usually blown shocks make a vehicle feel "boaty".Have the alignment checked, but if your going to have to pay for it you should definatley fix what needs to be fixed...
Car is a 91 TSi with 103k miles on it. Title is clear and in hand. The engine bay has basicly been stripped, I do have all the parts though. The body is pretty straight but it needs paint/dents fixed. Wiring harness is out (was working on re-looming it, it is unsheathed also), exaporator and...
Working on getting a 91 TSI up and running again. Engine was pulled a few years back for whatever reason, I already have a built (not exactly sure out of what yet. I have been told manley rods and wiseco pistons, forgot the valvetrain used but it will be a fresh and re-looked over) 7 bolt I have...
