Just finished paint correcting it the best I could. 2 step compound and polish with ceramic wax. I think it turned out great considering it’s original paint. Def some rock chips on the front, few scratches here and there but it turned out good for what it is.A couple before and afters:
Haha yea I’ve seen this before. Can you imagine reading this article from 6 years ago showing how to do this for $25 and then bundling a kit for $130 with the pictures from it. Where’s my royalties!
It really doesn't, the fenders are rolled well, wheel/tire's are just the right size, and the Feal coilovers keep it planted and just stiff enough to work well together.
Here are a couple of pictures to show off the full interior and overall OEM+ feel of the car. Still need to set the alignment to dial it in. Also, I have everything I need to do a full paint correction and seal. I will be knocking that out in the next couple of weeks once it’s not 110* outside...
As with all projects the time always seems to slip away from you! This has been a big year for us; but to stay on topic this is a great day for this car. After slowly building this car, I finally got to the point it was ready to tune. I’m lucky to have some good DSM locals nearby, and one of...
I've been sourcing parts for this to try to get that final 1%. Factory radio, kick panel, splash shields, and new hatch struts installed. Small things but really help the restoration. Still need the inner shield that keeps the crank pulley area covered.
Bosch high z injectors with only about 10 miles and some idle time. Never had E85 through them.Honestly only selling because I don’t need injectors that large.
Found everything except a passenger splash shield. Will be installing soon!
Working on the tune currently, may need to swap into some nicer fic injectors. Hopefully can complete this thing soon!
Looking for a couple parts to restore this to the condition it deserves!-1g OEM double din radio & radio bezel (1990 proffered, but really any will do)
-1ga splash shields (front squares, not the full fender liners)
-1g coin holder for the center console that sits beside the shifter
Thank you! I wish the zinc had come out better but it is what it is. Just another skill I need to learn if I want it done right.Yea rpf1’s are where it’s at. Proven Motorsport history, and good looks. Just wanted to try something different with these. Can probably count on one hand the number...
Thanks Chris! The white wheels are a bold look but not crazy enough to rice it out haha.
No sir zero rubbing like this. Alignment still needs to be dialed in but so far so good. It’s a pretty calculated fit.
Car made it home from the shop and spent a couple days cleaning it up well. Stripped all the old dust and dirt that's been stuck to it for years. Lots of hours with the pressure washer...
Once it was clean, had to remove the old clear bra off the front. Lots of adhesive remover later - took a...
Haven't forgotten about this. Busy with life and other fun things. Car is good, nearly drivable. Hoping to drive it home this week so I can focus on cleaning it back up. Detailing job will be fun but lengthy. Also going to steam clean all of the interior. Actually looking forward to this...
Hey Josh, got a chance to play with it all over the weekend. It's likely an OEM shift stop from the 3000GT. Upper pivot bushings look to be 1G DSM, but proper lower bushings were not used. Just some copper washers on the ends with some grease! For now I'm going to set this piece aside...
Hi JNZ!
I just got my new brass bushings in from @Gsx-Dude (go check them out people!) and need to head over to the shop to inspect everything again. From what I remember, the shift stop bushing looked a lot like a piece of rubber hose somebody cut and stuck on 20 years ago BUT I can't say for...
This article is great, but I’m having a hard time understanding exactly what to do with step 1- the black/white wire. I assume it still has to power the coil, so when it says to splice the b/w wire from the coil plug to the 91 PTU, does that mean to T it off from the harness to the PTU?We’re...
Another afternoon well spent, got some small stuff done, and swapped all the shifter parts over to 91 parts. Now moving on to wiring.
Since this is a 91 engine in a 90, there's a few things that need to happen.1) TPS, CAS and ISC connectors will get rewired with connectors from my old harness...
Steady working this week. Fuel system installed, driveshaft installed. I always forget how much of a pain in the ass solid carrier bearing bushings are..
No fun pictures really, it's still just coming together. These are really neat though. Stock position plus size fuel line clips. They replace...
Yea I'm sure someone just used the idea and did it themselves. Either way it should function the same.
This is my last week of work until I start my new job. I've got a week in between so I will be focusing on trying to get this thing running the next couple days!
Wow that's so cool, I had no idea they were making them like that! Thanks for the insight. The welds looks pretty bad cosmetically, which is why I thought it was a homebrew thing, but that's pretty cool to have another old school piece like that. I might see if I can keep it and transfer it over...
Was gathering all my parts to swap the shifter and cables and found this after removing the center console.
Somebody took the shifter lever from a 3kgt and welded the top portion of a Dsm lever to the top of it.Just curious what the intent was here. Was this a poor man’s short shifter back...
Worked really hard to save for the parts and did all the work myself! It started as a turd, but many hours into it, learned to powdercoat, etc.
It was just that super hi-temp stuff you can buy at Autozone sprayed on an Evo 3 manifold. That pic was when it was fresh, but I will say it held up...
Here's my 97 GS-T I had in highschool, this was about 2009?. Started my journey here and learned so much from it! Evo 3 16G, all the bolt ons, DSMlink, etc. Def had my share of road side fixes but it never had to be towed home! Cringing at all the plasti dip on this car..
I will be swapping to a 91-94 shifter soon, if you verify they fit that year model, I'm on board! Awesome to see a full kit come together, I fought these many years ago.
Between having the China virus, a trip to Vegas, Christmas, etc haven’t had a ton of time at the shop. But today it’s looking a lot more like a car! Really finding the differences between the 91 and 90 here.quick image upload
Just wanna say how much I love this forum.. forgot about the bolt in the back while putting the transmission in tonight and first thread I find has the information from you same guys who are here in my thread! @TK's9d2TSi and @Vegas Smith
Anyways- trans is bolted in. Ran out of time tonight so...
Man I take living in the south for granted..
If you ever get to having a fun set and a snow set, Bridgestone RE71 and Toyo R888R are about the best street tires you can get.
Dunlop Direzza Z3 gets runner up for me. Life starts at 200 treadwear!
Spent some time in the shop this weekend and got the engine all wrapped up. Went ahead and set it in the car as well! Yes I know it's easier to put the trans in at the same time but I don't have a proper leveler and I was by myself running out of time.
I would imagine Bringing them back to Japan would be difficult because of how strict their regulations are. But you can certainly bring them back into the US either under the “importing a previously exported car” or just as one normally would “import” a car to the US(as long as it is 25 years...
I would imagine it falls under the regular 25 year law even though it came from the US originally. What year is it?Edit: I take that back, looks like you can:

Yea it's weird. Very dull finish, I was going to try to polish one and see what happens.
Idk not mad about it, really kinda fits the car better like this.
Got my hardware back from zinc coating! Threw everything into a bucket that I pulled off of the engine and had them done in yellow zinc. Definitely not as shiny as I thought they'd be.. I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe I didn't order correctly, but either way, they still don't look bad...
Pictures finally worked. I added them to the post above.
I was using Flickr for the posts on the Talon but when I tried to upload the Silvia pics it just wouldn't work. Had to switch photo hosts.
