    Lets talk Difs.

Did anyone measured the length of inner EVO LSD or 2G Non-LSD axle cup? Teeth count and diameter. And what has EVO/Eclipse tripod inner teeth count and bearing diameter. I know that, 2G open diff and 1G Outlander rear diff`s internals are exactly the same (except gear ratio). Here is a image for...

    W5M31 over W5M33

Hi. I am sorry, if this kind of thread already exists. I did used the search, but with no luck.It is all known that W5M31 tranny is weaker than W5M33 tranny. But haven`t figured out why everybody think that way. Can`t say: because 1 teeth less on CD (Evo 3 have 1 teeth less than DSM). Also...

1G Master brake cylinder failure? Bad brakes

I used to have a ABS on my 1G AWD. I deleted it with triple-couplers. Couplers are instead of rear brakes proportioning valve. It looks like stock non-abs brake line now. So I assembled brake lines diagonally from master BC. Right front and left rear are together, left front and right rear are...

    Timing?!

DOHC and SOHC oil pump marks are on different places. Did you use correct oil pump? Did you cranked or turned over the crank meanwhile, then timing belt was off? Spark plugs are on?Measure cylinders compression.

    EDM Eclipse GSX

Recently done: swapped to W5M31 tranny with 2.846 rear end (welded), because I broke my 3.909 VLSD shorter axle inside the diff and W5M33 tranny desided not to shift out reverse gear anymore (biatch). Shafts inside the tranny are all worn out, included aluminium forks. Already broke W5M31...

Reasonably priced n/a Lancer timing belt kit

Hi. My brother moved to US and he bought 2002 Lancer ES with 4G94 SOHC engine. Where can he find a timing belt kit and waterpump with best price? Must be quality products ( OEM or Contitech etc). I found timing belt kit and waterpump (Contitech, Aisin) in $100. He lives in Norfolk VA.Perhaps...

what's this on my 1g awd trans?

Did you took it apart? I have a similar tranny and I found out, that in Europe, it was used on 2 gen Lancer / Mirage 83-91 with 1.8 4G37 engine. All 4G37, 4G67 and 4G63 (early) engines have the same tranny layout. Have done multiple swaps.I am going to take it apart again and swap it to 1G...

    2G Quaife LSD Install Questions

Thanks.I also have two W5M31 gearboxes (one have switchable center diff lock and the second is with VCU) I am considering to swap front diff from W5M33, and a front diff´s output shaft from center diff, to W5M31 tranny. So this kind of swap should be working with my 3.909 rear axle. Have...

    2G Quaife LSD Install Questions

Hi. I have an other question about Quaife center differential. I own 91 GSX, which have a 90-92 early manual transmission. Few years ago I welded center diff and drove around happily. But now I´m more like interested to convert it back to "normal". So far as I know that 90-92 and 92-94 center...

    4g64 DOHC build question

On the picture have G64B, with 4g63 dohc head and 6-bolt 4g63 oilpump front end. You can see the head gasket`s height from water pump, which is 6mm (1/4") Both tensioners are exactly the same. Use 4g63`s timing belt kit.BUT, there is a catch- timing belt cover does not fit as the best as it...

    3 bolt LSD how strong?

Hi guys.I have researched the forums, but still have not found the right answer to my question. I have 3-bolt rear end with LSD, thinking about 4-bolt swap, but it is so hard to get in Europe. My question: are 3-bolt and 4-bolt axle bars interchangeable?? I have measured and counted...

How to remove the ABS/Speed Sensor from the hub?

Hi.This question is not about sensor, but about ABS rotor (ring) I have Galant 2.5 V6 AWD E88 (7-th generation) With same drivetrain as 2G Eclipse. Now we discovered that ABS is not working, rear ABS rotors are rusted away. Because of not working ABS the 4 wheel steering is not working too.I...

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

Finally I found 3-bolt rear VLSD axles from ebay. And already bought them, only $39.99 each, now I have to wait for their arrival :)What you guys think about it. I have CD fully locked, front diff is open and rear is open. Now I will assemble rear VLSD. Question: is a front LSD overkill...

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

About rear VCU. You asked" why there is a longer axle for". And I meant that- so far I hadn`t realized why it is there. So far I thought it is for VCU-which mean- longer axle goes through VCU- longer axle, by himself, locks the VCU. But I understood that it is wrong, thats why I made this image...

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

I didn't come on that, why there is a hole, beacause I don't have full set of rear diff. At first I thought that the longer axle is for VCU to pair VCU's inner teeth. :PSo considering the fact that center VCU is between CD housing and rear output, then it is 100% OK to drive with different...

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

Damn. You are absolutely right- jtmcinderCenter VCU is between center diff and output to rear's. VCU is assembled on to CD housing teeth and rear output shaft-CD's side gear. Center shaft is through CD's front output-side gear-pinion gross and geared via teeth to CD's rear output shaft...

    TD05H-20G inlet size compressor housing

Cover is 16G. Turbo: Eclipse 4g63 4G63T TD05H 20g Turbo Banjo 89 99 | eBayTo specify what I am actually doing.2G`s MAF is so stupidly oval (EVO-s are much better-round) and its outer diameter is 4". So I will buy, for MAF, 4" to 3" 45 degree reducer silicone coupler hose, about 1 feet...

    TD05H-20G inlet size compressor housing

Apologies for very dumb question, but...Since I am going to order TD05H-20G turbo for my 1G DSM and making some serious modifications under the hood, then I still need to ask.I know that 20G-s compressor wheel (inducer) is ~2" (52.5mm), and you are talking about inlet (2.25"), then...

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

That`s what I thought.VCU is between two outputs. Like center differential`s VCU. Otherwise it acts like typical open diff.So I would reccomend you to check the installation. Are the shafts installed correctly? Considering the fact, that EVO`s rear LSD discs are incorrectly assembled. :)

Rear VCU LSD - how it work

Hi. Since I`m still not able to post in technical forum, I have to post my thought here.Maybe some people, including me, are not 100% realized how DSM`s rear VCU LSD works, I thought it would be great to make an image to show it to public. Also I haven`t got any answer, which rear axle is...

    Switchable center diff W5M31

Hi. Sry, no updates. Car has been standing in garage since 2012 June. Building ~400-500hp engine from 4G63 (6-bolt) and renovating technical side. New paintjob already done, rear suspension is renovated-new bushings, bolts etc. All taken a part, cleaned, coated with stonechip (in here we have...

Problems with car after new head

Use a ruler or something similar. Here is picture of the 6G73 DOHC engine, but you get the point. I`ll never ever trust lower timing belt cover for checking the marks. One mistake, and you regret to the end of life :banghead:

    Switchable center diff W5M31

I think I already have most of the combo for spare parts :rocks::rocks:Which mean: 2 x 2.846 open rear diffs (1 is from 4ws 6g galant with 4ws pump etc), 1 x T-box 23 spline. 1-2x open front diffs (62 tooth), 2 sets of rear 3-bolt axles (non lsd), 2 sets front axles including 1 middle shaft...

    Switchable center diff W5M31

I have collected alot of spare parts for my 91 GSX. Including very rare gearbox. It has switchable center differential. Inside the gearbox it is typical W5M31-.... except no VCU, no reverse gear syncro. Seems to be manufactured before 90. There is a special fork for it. Vacuum switch. Center...

    4g64 DOHC build question

What are the other options you know?My opinion is, that stock 4G64 timing belt can handle up to 300-350 Hp easily. If you are worried about breaking it, then just replace it sooner than after 54K miles. It is cheaper. That`s what I do, have always done and keep doing. :thumb:
