Well this isn't DSM related, but I can't seem to find a direct answer anywhere, so I'll see what you guys think. Hopefully someone can help me out.Okay, well I bought a 2005 Saturn Ion a little while ago as a DD. Car is in great condition, no codes or anything. The only "issue" I have with it...
Yeah, most of the people that were in that group were annoying to all hell. But they moved to another group, so it seems to be more about cars now.I'm a part of both as well. Can't stand 97% of the stuff posted in Most Finest, the people are complete idiots. But Pa's Finest cleared up a...
But see the crankshaft was rotated slightly after the belt was removed from it. So the crankshaft is likely not on time (I rotated it back to about where it was, but can't be certain it's correct), but the cam gears were not altered, so they are still on their correct timing marks.Thank you...
No balance shafts, so I know this makes it a little easier. Now I went back out and checked my cam gear marks to see where they were. THey were about a half rotation off. Now would the crankshaft marks correspond to this, and also be about a half rotation off? Here's a picture
Well I went outside to remove my timing belt and front case, and I was rushing around trying to get as much done before I ran out of daylight. Well I began taking off my timing belt, after the bottom portion was off, I realized I completely forgot to align the timing marks... Now this wouldn't...
That thing is VERY clean :thumb:Had absolutely no clue, my apologies.Well with that other thread he was gearing more towards making movie style videos. Here you can just post any video you want. However, I'm still aware of the similarity.
I figured it would be cool to have a thread with a collection of DSM videos that inspire you, and make you proud to be a part of the DSM community. Also feel free to post videos of your own car as well. One of my favorites: 1g AWD DSM turbo only needs two gears to win drag race vs turbo...
Okay here's the scoop. Brand new motor, bottom end assembled at machine shop. The very first start up went fairly smooth other than a slightly high idle, and slightly low oil pressure. Eventually after a couple other start ups, the idle started dropping (around 5-600 rpm) and oil pressure...
Thank you, I appreciate it.For the others, I'm sorry for offending your opinion with my opinion. I can accept that you like that style, that's fine. I just think it's silly, that is all. And yes, stance is a pretty major part of the VW crowd, you don't need to be a certain age to realize...
I'm 20, in college, and working part time. I'm not going to have a fast car. Just because I don't have a 10 second car doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on what I like and don't like. I like a fast, clean DSM. I think stance is a silly fad. That's my opinion, just as you have yours.
I just choose not to get sucked into the silly little fads these kids are doing these days. Stance and camber ain't my thing. Leave it to the VW crowd.
Haha I enjoyed the drama between the two pages. One thing that annoys me with dsmgram is all the stance... I'm sorry, but seeing a dsm stanced just hurts me inside.
I saw no copper flakes at all. I took a magnet in between each fold and did get some metal, but nothing copper looking. The metal I did get was almost like dust, or very tiny specs, some of which could have been from the cutting.
I gave cutting it open a shot with a saw. I stopped before I got too far. Figured the metal shavings would inevitably drop into the filter, making it hard to distinguish whether or not I had metal in there from my bearings. As I said earlier though, when I drained my oil, I noticed no chunks of...
That's what I'm thinking, I should run a heavier weight oil. A friend suggested rotella T 15w-40. Also, replacing my OFH with one that isn't ported. Hopefully if I do this it will solve my oil pressure issues. If not, well I guess on to the oil pump.Oh, and the machine shop suggested I check...
How would a take pressure from the head or pre-turbo?Yes, I drained the oil after my first two startups - approximately 6-7 minutes of total run time. There were very very tiny specks of metal I could see, but nothing alarming. Just what I would expect from a new motor.
What would grounding the wire do on the OFH?The machine shop didn't do anything with the balance shafts. Me and a friend of my did the BSE. We plugged off the oil passages properly. All the machine shop did was some machine work and putting my rods/pistons in.So basically high...
Well I did put my old sending unit back in and hooked that up to see what my stock gauge showed. Again, the needle barely moved and I didn't really notice much of anything. Grant it the stock gauge is close to worthless, so it's pretty hard to tell. I am in the process of taking off my OFH to...
I'm running 10w-30 conventional oil. I just rebuilt my motor. Oil clearences I'm not positive of, the bottom end was assembled at a machine shop. The turbo oil feed line I am using is this https://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.php?productid=17334Since I just rebuilt the motor, it's...
Which reading? My gauge is fed from my OFH. Where the stock pressure sending unit was.And I guess I'll get another gauge and see if that reads the same before I go on thinking my oil pressure is low. So mechanical gauges should read completely accurate at idle? I shouldn't have to worry about...
What would you suggest I change to? I like the SS line because it's durable. Do they make a SS line that would be small enough to use for the gauge, in your opinion? Or would I be better off downgrading to a copper line from autometer.
There's a number of people running this setup. It's supposed to be the preferred method. I wouldn't think the line would change idle readings, regardless the pressure should be sent to the gauge, correct?I also thought mechanical gauges were the most precise with their readings, but now my...
Well today I was getting a low oil pressure reading. At around 750-800 rpm (operating temp) I was seeing like 7.5 psi. I know that's low, and it should be around 11.4 or something. But I have a friend that told me that he had two mechanical gauges that did the same at idle, and then he went to...
Alright I'll stay clear the the BISS and use your method. Now I did fiddle with the screw when I first had the car, before then engine went, so should use the method of tightening the whole way, then loosening it two full roatations to get it back it's factory setting?
Thanks for the in depth write up, I'll definitely refer to that if need be. For now, I'm going to do a boost leak test before anything, just gotta wait til it comes.I started up my car again (finally had free time), and let it get to operating temperature and found out I definitely don't have...
Thanks for the informative reply. I took your advice and went ahead and started my car earlier today before work. It started up and I immediately got oil pressure, as you said, and my lifters were/still are extremely loud lol. I know that will fade though. The only issues I have is a high idol...
So if I see oil coming through the rocker arms I'm set? Anyone else? Yay or nay?And I'm not doubting you at all, just would like to have as many opinions as possible is all. Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate it.
So I have a couple questions regarding engine priming/oil pump priming that I hope somebody could clear up with me.I followed the following link to prime my oil pump: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/286487-how-prime-oil-pump-timing-components-already-installed.htmlIn...
Well today I wanted to prime my oil pump using turboAWDfanatic's method, here's the link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/286487-how-prime-oil-pump-timing-components-already-installed.htmlWell in his write up, he says to remove the brake booster fitting on the intake...
Thanks, I appreciate it. Yeah it was definitely somewhat sloppy, being my first rebuild, in my driveway, with very limited tools. But hey, I learned a whole lot about my car in the process and I'm proud I got this far myself with what I had. This will just be one more hurdle I can use to gain...
Yes I remember us talking about that, but I just figured it was something rather irrelevant so I ignored it til now. But regardless, even if I figured it out back then I'd still have to remove my timing cover. I guess it isn't THAT big of a deal though, I've heard it takes about 30 minutes to...
Haha even though it's not the dummy light sending unit I'm removing, it still is useless for me because the metal clip that the harness connects to is snapped off... :ohdamn:I'm not too concerned though, because since I just rebuilt my motor my eyes will be glued to the gauge lol. It'll be...
I figured this would pop up eventually. I know many people are against mechanical gauges because of hot pressurized oil running into the cab, which is why I ditched the nylon and copper line option and went with the stainless steel braided line. After reading through the forums I'm pretty...
Yeah I read about that also before I bought my SS line and adapters. I have a 1/8 male bpt to female 1/8 npt. That then goes to my male 1/8npt to -4 AN male. Then my line, then to my -4 AN male to 1/8npt female adapter on my gauge. So what I'm getting is that I can run it straight through as...
Sorry, it was a bad reference I used tap as. I meant where I'm putting my fitting for my line to the gauge. I saw some guys keep their stock unit and just "T" it off of their fittings. I'll have no ill effects if I just completely remove it?
I'm going to be installing my mechanical oil pressure gauge soon and was wondering if I can just remove the stock sending unit since that's where they say to tap into your OFH at.
One of my biggest regrets is not trying hard in high school. After being in college for a little now, I realized how easy high school would've been if I put forth the same effort as I am with college. If only I listened to those who told me "it only becomes harder after high school." Oh, how...
