Could you possibly be off one full revolution on the crank? In other words on the top of the exhaust stroke where the ex. valves are open as opposed to the top of the compression stroke where the valves will be closed?
I just helped someone pull a trans. with the same issues. First replaced the master cyl., then slave, then pulled and welded the pedal assy. Finally pulled the trans. to find a spring popped out and lodged between the street disc and flywheel. Symptoms, shifts when not running, can't shift when...
Boost leaks seem to be the #1 tuning problem. Also, check your base timing and make sure it's not too far advanced. The datalogger thinks your base timing is 5*BTDC unless you correct it.
Sounds like one of the filaments in the front bulb is out like someone already said. I've also had a problem with grounds on my '91 Tsi. This, too, was on the front. It was where the wire goes into the bulb socket itself. I cleaned up the connectors and used dielectric grease on there and...
Could be the oil filter that backed off but you say it's all on the intake side. Could be the dipstick popped out but you would have noticed when you checked it and that's on the exhaust side. Could be coming from the breather filter if you have one on there but to pump that much oil out the...
You remembered to plug in the ISC, right? I know it sounds stupid but it's very easy to miss considering where it's located. You didn't leave any vacuum lines off either? No throttle body gasket leaks?
I got myself a Lincoln 135 plus MIG welder. I got tired of waiting on people to weld stuff for me. I never had experience with MIG welding before. I used to arc/stick and ox/acetylene weld as part of my job about 28 yrs. ago so it's been a while. After reading ALL instructions I gave it a go and...
For future reference the "O" ring is a #5 I believe which you can buy at any hardware store. Yes you can fill the cavity on top of the screw with silicone, but you probably shouldn't have to with the new ring. The cap on top is basically to keep debris out. Most DSM that I've seen are missing...
Possibly your timing belt either broke or jumped teeth. Take the top cover off of your belt and take a peek. Could be your valves resting against your pistons.
http://www.taboospeedshop.com/clutch.htmI went through this with 1 bent and two broken clutch forks after installing a 2600 ACT on my son's '91 Tsi AWD. New master and slave cylinders. Braided steel line. 1/4" added to slave cylinder rod. Nothing worked. Inserted a lock washer under the...
http://www.crebotech.com/page2.htmlHere's a link for testing your idle speed controller. It sounds like this might be your problem.http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/tttt/tttt3.htmlHere's another for more possibilities.
Take a look at my gallery and you tell me. Everything is original with the body. Head's never been off, been running with Mobil 1 since 20k miles. Never been in an accident of any kind. If you got the cash, I don't care what anyone says, there's nothing like the day you pick up a "new car."
I'm 49 and had my '91 Tsi FWD since Oct. 1990. One owner, me! It's modded to produce 324 whp on pump gas. If it was AWD it'd be at least 424 awhp but it's not and you know how that goes. I bought my son, now 19, a 1990 AWD Talon when he was 16. It was in his blood before he was 12, just like...
How about one of those portable air tanks that just holds air. Fill it up at your local station. Holds about 100 psi, it's about the size of a propane tank with a gauge for filling. I would prefer a regulator on it though so I could turn down the pressure entering thi intake to a reasonable psi...
I gave my son his DSM, '90 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD, when he got his license. He has broken every drive train part on that car except for the transfer case (shhhh) from high rpm launches, etc. He has paid for every broken part on that car also, and or worked on it, occassionlly with my help, to get...
Oh, really?"You (frontdriver) mentioned a cold idle valve. Could you please provide the specific name of that part that could be found in a manual?"Actually, I did a search on this website for "reed switch" and this was a quote directly from search results. I have no idea what a cold...
I suggest you do a search for "reed switch". That's how I found this thread."When the car is in motion... AND the speedometer is not at zero, a reed switch mounted in the speedo signals the ECU to increase the idle a bit. That's why the idle is higher when rolling. It is normal. As far as...
If it's when you are turning the steering wheel remember to have the wire plugged in on the power steering pump on what looks like about a 5/32" stud. There's also supposed to be a reed switch that I've read about on the back of the speedometer somewhere that senses when the car is moving and...
I ended up removing the headlight switch assy. from the steering column and cleaning the contact points with aerosol contact cleaner and it seems to be working ok now.
Aren't these the wires that get connected to your egt probe? If that's the case, no you can't connect them to the same place as the black/white wires if I understand your question.http://www.frostalarm.com/hookup/2a1.htmlHere's a link that might be helpful..
It would seem kind of odd that both headlights would go bad at once. I'm going to try and clean the contacts on the dimmer assy. There's a procedure in the factory manual for checking the oper. of the dimmer, I'll have to check that. It's an intermittent problem.
I've been having a problem when I switch off the hi-beams the headlights go out completely. If I click the stalk from low to hi and back they eventually come back on at low. Nov problem when on hi. Dash lights and parking lights always stay on during this problem. Anyone have this problem? I...
No. They've made revisions to our cars lifters. They have bigger holes for oil passage now. You can change all of them in about 1 hr. if you're mechanically adept.
According to Dejan at Pruven Performance the difference is minimal. They are lucky enough to have an AWD dynojet and tried it back to back, FWD and AWD.
lsd should help alot. good investment_____________________________best 1/4 12.70(with the 16g)
best mph 113(with the 16g)What are you using for tires for these times, DSM?
I just went to the track Fri. Best run was 14.2 @ 109.4. That mph is generally in the mid 12's for an AWD. I make 324 whp on pump gas and 20 psi on my small ported 16g. On Fri. I put in c-16 and turned up the boost to about 23. I have a phantom grip lsd, agx adjustables at softest in front and...
I understand through the combustion process there's different acids and corrosives produced and introduced into the oil through blow by, etc. and is better purged out with fresh oil when storing for long periods so as not to damage bearing surfaces, etc. But then again, I'm no rocket scientist.
