Still getting the hang of it. With only 2 bottles of argon under my belt so far, I still have a long way to go!3-4" concentric adapter for an R33 GTR exhaust I am doing for a friend. The mid pipe got damaged and the axle back is already 4" so we just said to hell with it and am doing 4" from...
finally bought some more argon and had some time away from work to practice my aluminum some more.
Longevity 200sx
3/32nd gold tungsten
15cfh on the argonI was grinding the tungsten with too much of a taper so once I read a little more and reground it things started looking much better...
have a refurbished Licoln 125 weld pak hd mig that's about 6 years old and is going strong.I bought a longevity 200sx tig welder last year and I have had zero complaints. It's welded everything I have needed it to.
I need to work on getting the right look.Plugged a 14mm heater port hole, welded a 1/8NPT bung on the other heater port and welded shut another smaller port that fed the throttle body-8AN male bung over the stock breather holeYou can kinda make out one of the beads for the intake...
Southbend has some very reasonably priced options as well.Racing Clutches by DXD RacingThe same clutch is used for the 1.8L mirage if that helps.I'll be getting a solid hub TZ disc & pressure plate from them for $295 in a bit.
it wasn't that bad actually. I think the WP9 torch I was using was just about at it's limit in some area's.By no means are the welds a stack of dimes or any such luck lolthe hardest parts were between the runners. I kept contaminating the tungsten with my super steady hands :(
I'll get some closeup's tomorrow but I cut up my stock 4G92 Mivec intake manifold and an CTR one and welded the CTR plenum/runners to the 4G92 flange. The port spacing is a few mm off but I have built up weld in the required areas and will sort that out with some sanding drums:thumb...
if you can get them, the evo 8 rocker arms are 3.7 grams lighter than the DSM ones. It's not much but every little bit helps!http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/393646-evo3-evo8-valvetrain-weight-comparison-inside.html#post152478570
for a hobbyist you really can't beat longevity. I have had my 200sx machine now for about 4-5 months. Granted I haven't even burned through a full tank of argon yet. From my amateur experience, one you get the upgraded wp9 torch it's an awesome machine. I've done mild, stainless and...
I know this is going to come off as a retarded question as I realize full well this is a drag kit and you guys aren't exactly autocross oriented.I have a 94 Mirage hatch that I daily and use for autocross. There are NO kits for the DSM's that fit under 15's that are NOT drag oriented (that...
I don't have any experience on a circuit so I can't speak to that. I didn't realize you would be trimming it down and such. Hope it works out for you the way you want!
Ok i get what you are saying. I will throw it in next weekend and see how it behaves.I don't think swapping the cross shaft around will make it a 1.5 way, i see what you are getting at but it looks like it might put too much wear on the cross shaft on deccel and the cam on accel. The cams...
any room in here for FWD diff discussion?I have a 94 mirage hatch with the 1.6 mivec engine (pretty much a mitsubishi b16) that I autocross with. It compete's in our street tire class on 15x7 Kosei K4R/225/45R15 Toyo R1R tires. Cusco Zero2 coilovers 7kg/mm front 5kg/mm rear springs, 26mm...
not ideal but13" = 330mm
12.8" = 325mmIf the calipers are radial mounted, you could just use their 12.8" rotors and have the brackets milled down 2.5mm?You will probably have to change calipers and possibly brackets to fit a thicker rotor
I autocross every month and have been doing so for at least 5 years, I am not a novice but I am no professional race car driver.ABS could have saved me from pit manuvering a van last month. Locked up the front brakes and before I could think of backing off the pedal to reapply, I was to...
I know this is not the norm but I have a 4g Mirage hatch that I autocross now. I have the GSX caliper upgrade up front (wagner thermoquiet's for the win! LOL)The car weighs in at around 2200lbs soaking wet. I have been trying to find a Wilwood based kit that clears 15's which is not drag...
Patched up a DC sports B series header and swapped head flanges to fit my 4g92 Mivec motor. Welding tube is ugh...hopefully as time passes i can get the pretty dime stack lookThe dent! Damned over lowered civic lolI used part of a stock Mirage RS header to make the patch, the bend...
thanks for the tips guys. I will keep on plugging away.Nice to know i should be able to turn down the argon which will save some money.I just picked up a 4-1 header with a dent in one of the primaries that i will repair. I also need to swap the head flange on it to work with my motor.
thanks guys....i will give that a try tomorrow night hopefully!Going to go around to some railing fabrication places today and secure some scraps to useQuestion though guys, should i be seeing the inside of the piping melted as well or is it ok for the outside surface to be melted along...
FINALLY!Got about 2 hours in tonight. Slowly getting the hang of aluminum.
1/8 angle aluminumIntercooler piping was much harder to doThis weld here broke really easily. It is hard to tell if I am getting decent penetration or just making 4/10 looking beadsHopefully the wife lets...
i just got two 3/32nd gas lenses, 10 collets, five #8 and five #6 cups.
The torch and materials were from welders4less on ebay
M-10 M-15 Mig Guns Parts, Craftsman Mig Parts by USAWELD items in welders4less store on eBay!I got the BSX gloves and jacket from weldfabulous on ebay
FR Cotton...
got my new CK-9 torch, gold tungsten, cups, gas lenses, filler rod, gloves and a jacketPicking up argon tomorrow so I can start posting welding pics instead of welder parts pics
LOL! Everything I have been reading in regards to the inverter machines points to 2% lanthanated being the go to tungsten for all around use. That's why I chose that in particular. We will see I guess!
It's for the 9 series. I prefer to learn with something that allows for a little more dexterity. If i need to weld something thicker than what the 9 can handle I still have the stock torch :)I placed an order for that, a gas lens kit, 2% lanthanated 1/16, some 1/16 collets, 1lb 308, 5lbs...
i FINALLY got to try out my Longevity 200sx. I have never TIG'd before, i did not have any acetone to wipe anything down. I didn't use any filler either (didn't have any)Just fusion welded 2 mild steel pieces of angle iron, they were like 1/16" i think.Used 1/16 red tungsten and a #7 cup...
oh yeah it works. the unequal length and twin scroll let me make boost on a 20G quite early (engine mods are in profile), 16psi at 3600rpm on a 3rd gear pull. I did a 22psi pull but it was before i dialed out the overlap and cleaned up the timing. Ended up hitting 24psi at 4000rpm. The...
i got "one of the last" flanges Road race engineering had last year. I am not sure if they are producing more etc. its 1/2" mild steel.Ovaling those weld els = heat and a bfhIf possible spend the $60-70 on an SLS flange from STM and save yourself the headache.
I have only ever made 1 manifold and I am definitely no authority on the matter so take that into consideration LOLI tacked a runner together then I welded the joins alternating from collector side to head flange side.1.5" sch40 pipe oval'd into an RRE 1/2" head flange and tig'd (not...
you are a brave man welding that thing up without it not being tacked and assembled (in my amateur opinion)ps looking at the head flange you have (i thought it was one that was premachined to fit up to the round pipe/bends) you are going to need to heat those weld els up and use a decent bench...
it's hard to have a conversation like this in written form lolthe link below does a fairly good job picture wise

a 15*-17* collector seems to be the steepest I have come accrossas far as making the cuts, when looking at the pipe so that you are actually looking through it, you will want to make the 2 cuts at 94*trace the pipe circle on a sheet of paper, mark a 94* angle on the circle and transfer...
