  1. The Sexy Grandma 15 day build

Just wanted to say.. very nice build! I like your choices and layout alot.Looking at your graphs, I really wouldnt be too worried. With the intake/cam combo you were running and considering the type of dyno your numbers look right. I think once you start upping the boost the power will...
  2. Evo pistons for 2G's

Our pistons do not have the wrist pins located in the center of the piston. They are shifted 1mm towards the exhaust side of the piston. The Evo's pins are shifted 1mm to the intake side of the piston. If you want to know the reasons for the offset there are several articles online about pin...
  3. Evo pistons for 2G's

EVO 8/9 pistons use a 22mm pin just like 2Gs, however the pin offset is reversed.
  4. Review: SCE ICS Titan Head Gasket

I installed mine correctly, as did many others who have had issues. I am not new to DSMs, and have used just about every gasket on the market. Also, anyone that is shooting for big horsepower numbers shouldn't be trying to avoid simple things like proper head and block surfacing. I disagree than...
  5. How do i block the 2g oil squirters !

2G squirters are nothing like 1G squirters, there is nothing to bend.
  6. Review: SCE ICS Titan Head Gasket

I'm sorry, I pulled the head off of a motor that had one installed and it was never even run. The built in o-ring was hanging out into the bore of the block. So I am glad it was never started. I then tried another one in my own racecar and it promptly blew out on both sides of the #2 and #3...
  7. Review: SCE ICS Titan Head Gasket

I tested one, and my review is.... "it's crap".
  8. How do i block the 2g oil squirters !

An easy method I use is to knock them out and hit the ends with a welder to block the hole, then just reinstall.
  9. Project 12's for less than $1500..we'll see

Altitude doesnt have that big of an effect on turbo cars. I live at 4200ft now and have ran 2 of my cars here at a 5000+ft track and back at near sea level tracks. One was my race car and the other my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT. Both cars ran the same ET's and MPH at both altitudes. The 12.8 car...
  10. Project 12's for less than $1500..we'll see

Went 12.8 @ 108 in a full weight 91 AWD many years ago.Mods. Homemade upper IC pipe made from leftovers. Modded Stock BOV Hacked 1G MAS No exhaust C-16 Wire-tie boost control 2G fuel injectorsCost.. just the gas.Running 12's in a 1G AWD is pretty easy.
  11. How do you unclog or clean out your cat?

Honey comb style cats have linear flow paths through the catalyst which keep the exhaust flow straight through the cat. Very similar to the honeycombs in our MAS's. Remove them and the air no longer flows as linear and causes turbulance.
  12. My new setup ready to drop in!

Yes I know Adam. I am from PA originally right near him.
  13. My new setup ready to drop in!

I live in NM actually. The new motor was ready to be assembled untill I threw a monkey wrench in the plans by deciding against the filled block. I need to concentrate on making money for the next few months so I am not in a hurry. Plus, I have a 92 Laser I am throwing a 2.3 stroker together for...
  14. How do you unclog or clean out your cat?

Gutting a cat causes turbulance and reduces flow, and power on NA or a turbo car. In alot of cases low rpm power will have a seat of the pants power increase however the overall result is a reduction in performance. If your cat is bad replace it, that is the nest solution.Gutting cats...
  15. My new setup ready to drop in!

This motor was fully filled. I built a half filled motor a few years ago and that one worked out just fine. If your going to street drive and just have to have some fill to make you feel better I would recommend half filling, unless you want to sacrifice a motor trying a full fill like myself ;)...
  16. My new setup ready to drop in!

Yes, its true my filled block experiment doesnt appear to be working out too well. I pulled the head due to the ICS titan headgasket leaking and saw that the cylinder walls show some signs of overheating. The car ran great up to the point I pulled the head. I made several 1 hour long highway...
  17. My new setup ready to drop in!

Here are pics of the finished product. Hopefully October 14th I can make some low boost passes at the track to get it dialed in a bit.http://www.hesspower.com/images/finishedpics/dashshot.jpg http://www.hesspower.com/images/finishedpics/interior.jpg...
  18. My new setup ready to drop in!

Well, I got the car running this weekend. Yesterday I ran it pretty hard (my typical breakin routine). I made 15-20psi pulls all day long revving it out to 10,000 in 1st and 9500 in 2nd and 3rd. Compression tests held constant all day and it appears to be holding up pretty good. With the...
  19. SBR 3500 Clutch Review

Have any of you guys taken notice to the fact that the SBR/CC clutches look identical to these cheap ebay clutches? I guess not. These things sure do have a nice profit margin though...
  20. My new setup ready to drop in!

The streetability of the filled block is a concern, of course. I believe it will be fine for my street usage which is mainly just joy rides and street tuning. For a daily driver it is likely a bad choice. There was a certain street driven Supra out there that dynoed something like 1500whp with a...
  21. My new setup ready to drop in!

The block is filled and the head is cooled via a Meziere electric water pump. The Moroso oil pan is a total pain in the butt, however in order to keep it street driveable I really wanted the extra capacity. I run a remote oil filter setup that passes through a fairly large Fluidyne oil cooler...
  22. My new setup ready to drop in!

My goal is to go 8's on boost while still remaining as streetable as possible. The turbo is a Gt42. The header I hand built myself. Thanks for the compliments!
  23. My new setup ready to drop in!

After 2 years of work I am one week away from starting my car again. I just finished the motor Saturday and thought I would share my progress.Still 2.0 liters.. hopefully I will have some videos and results soon.
  24. PTE SC-63 info desired

I was using an on-center .63 A/R housing with a P-trim wheel. On-center housings are said to be pretty inefficient.. however it worked fairly well for me.I know Jake is using a 67mm.. exactly what turbine he has I dont know. As I said earlier the right turbine selection seems to be super...
  25. PTE SC-63 info desired

As far as Shep using a 67mm I dont know how accurate that is... but regardless he is a bad data point. He has gone faster on any given turbo than anyone else in the same timeframe. His car has always been setup very well, obviously. My full boost around 4500 was without spray by the way. Also...
  26. PTE SC-63 info desired

BAH! I havent seen too many 67's outperform my 63. I had full boost before 4500rpm on a 2.0 and went as high as 148mph on a nearly 3000lb car on spray and close to 140 without it. I felt it was a very good turbo. The 67mm has yet to perform up to the hype in my opinion.
  27. New Turbo, Not sure if I like it

Looks like that is exactly what you bought. Its a .60 a/r to4b S-trim compressor, .48 A/r t3 turbine housing with a stage1 turbine wheel. You really need to do some more reading "learning" before making any future turbo purchases. Or call up a trusted DSM parts vendor and tell them what you...
  28. Check It Out - Pics

Hey guys.. Thanks for the compliments. Let me just skip to the answers :)The turbo is tilted like that for several reasons. 1) I want to keep this thing "streetable". My goal was a GT42 situated in a way that it fits with the factory radiator, etc. It plumbs up to a typical 1G layout...
  29. copper spray gaskets [Merged 6-9]

To say that stock headgaskets are fine is just foolish. Darryl has good luck running the stock HG that is true. However he himself even said that he has an o-ringed block. Having an o-ringed block or head changes everything. If you want a stock HG to last under high power levels (notice I said...
  30. Holset Turbos

Some turbine and compressor wheel dimensions would be super!!! Buying something that costs over a grand half blind just isnt very appealing. I have long known that Holset has some incredible compressor wheels. If they have something that is a good size I would try it out.
  31. Holset Turbos

As far as I know the HX-40 has a 58mm inducer and is rated around 70lb/min of airflow. In the Garrett world the Ts04 wheel is 58mm and is rated at 55lb/min. If 58mm is indeed correct for the Hx-40 then Holset seems to be almost magical. I am very curious and sceptical to see what happens with...
  32. What T4 Manifolds are you using on your 2.4L?

If you want an HKS cast T4 replica and dont mind spending some $$ then http://www.ongreenperformance.com/FrameSets/1G%20Performance.htm makes a real nice manifold, its in their exhaust section. I have used an SFP header for many years in fact I think I was their first T4 DSM customer and it has...
  33. How high can engine rev safely? [Merged 12-7]

The more power you put down over the course of the 1/4mile the quicker and faster you will go. If your turbo is that large that your shift recovery RPMs drop below the power band then you need to rev higher. In extreme cases (and I mean extreme) you may have to rev to 9500. This is not the case...
  34. My Baby is gone!

I cant beleive you sold your DSM Nick. Ohh man. Ive been gone for awhile and this is the news I come back to. Well, at least the truck is nice.
  35. Cylinder sleeves, sleeve, sleeving [Merged 9-7] block bore cylinder

There is no proof that cryo treating a block will help anything relevant. The best and most cost effective way of strengthening a block is to fill the water jackets with hard blok. And dont think the 4g63s are bulletproof blocks.. i have cracked cylinder walls already, of course i make a little...
  36. Cylinder sleeves, sleeve, sleeving [Merged 9-7] block bore cylinder

Given the option of sleeving a block or using a new one... I would always choose a new one. 4G63 blocks are far too plentiful and cheap to even mess around with sleeving. Sleeving is just one more operation where mistakes could be made.
  37. PTE SC-61 who is using it

If you cant max out a 50trim then there will be no performance gain in going to a larger turbo like the gt40 56-trim. If you are planning on keeping boost low and running pump gas then your car will probably be slower in fact.
  38. The perfect 4G63 Motor

I doubt John would envy it.
  39. Head work & Powerbands, My Setup

Smart man :thumb: Sounds like the skies the limit then. ~600whp should be attainable with good tuning. Your times will be limited only by traction and driving. Should be interesting.
  40. Head work & Powerbands, My Setup

You have quite a nice car there. It should be a rocket once its tuned well. The HKSs should be able to rev to 8500 pretty safely even with stock springs, provided the installed height is to spec. Your power band should be pretty broad with that turbo and manifold. I would estimate 4500-8000...
  41. Phantom KNock Sensor - grounded

Relocating the Knock sensor to somewhere non engine related is something I have done for many years. I drove my one DSM like that for well over a year with no problems.... just more power and gas mileage. You do not need a knock sensor however you do need to know how to tune. If your air/fuel...
  42. New pump gas times

C'mon guys keep me out of this pissing match. Those of you who know me personaly know that I dont go around bragging and talking sh!t. I built the car and it is a very strong car. 126mph in his situation was very good but I wouldnt go hang out over the front of a boat screaming "I am king of the...
  43. My impression of RDRKT's 4G64 w/ 60-1/stg3 .82 a/r.

yes I am the master turbo killer :)Hey Matt just for future reference... the 02 is ignored at full throttle so it really doesnt mean a whole lot. Also good luck at Rado's. Hopefully he has someone there that knows something. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
  44. My impression of RDRKT's 4G64 w/ 60-1/stg3 .82 a/r.

OMG.... Matt is online talking smack :) Matt, you better get that car of yours trapping more than 103mph.... thats been done on fwds with the factory 14b, etc. :p I am glad to hear you got it to the track finally.I am just glad that I was able to help Dave out by blowing his wimpy little...
  45. I'am going to be running a n/t 4g63 temporarely in my turbo tsi, how much boost?

I answered your question based on my own experience not BS. I put a NT motor in a car and ran 18psi with it. The car ran 12.80s at the track for several months on the 14b and all other factory parts and is still running strong over a year later. The NTs pistons are higher compression and have a...
  46. T3/T4 Suggestion for 2.4L...

I am not one to support the Hahn racecraft "super" turbos... however if you are looking for a mitsu bolton turbo for a 2.4 their super 25G looks like the ticket.... not that I could understand why anyone would not go full garrett.
  47. AGP 60-1 turbo spools 30 psi @ 4000 rpm

A 60-1 t3/t4 with a stage 3 wheel and .82 A/R turbine housing works absolutely awesome on a 2.4L. Provided the car is setup well and tuned well you will have full boost well before 4000rpm. The .63 would be too small. Engine displacement and turbine housing A/R go hand in hand. The t3/t4 makes...
  48. I'am going to be running a n/t 4g63 temporarely in my turbo tsi, how much boost?

You can run stock boost or even turn it up to 15-16psi provided the fuel delivery is fine.
  49. USAF folks

You guys aren't making the crew chief positions sound too good. What exactly is wrong with working on the fighters? I dont want to work 12-16 hour days... Ive been there and dont want to go back.
  50. USAF folks

I am also close to enlisting in the AF. I am interested in the crew chief jobs. Can anyone tell me some specifics such as bonuses and what kind of hours they work.
