Looking for a 6 bolt block in decent condition. Prefer cylinders and mains to be within stock spec, but I do plan on going 20 over on the bore - scratches and shallow scores are ok.Let me know what you got. Will drive to most places in FL.
Best bet would be to take it to a mechanic who works on dsms to give it a look over. The short answer is yes, there is a lot to look over before buying a dsm, which probably cant be summarized in a single post.If you do get it, keep it at stock boost levels, 11-13 psi, until you learn a lot...
Its the latch that closes on the hoop on the frame. When I move it, it feels really easy to move, and is very easy to force out of the closed position. It looks more like #2 but its hard to tell from the picture. Ill take a pic today and post it.
So heres the deal, my doors will not close. They literally bounce when you try to shut them. When I started looking around, I saw the latch that clasps around the bar attached to the car is extremely weak on one side, and will not click into the closed position on another. If anyone has a...
Wow been a while since an update, but Im finally back to working on this project. The head and block are at the shop. I need to drop off parts next week but it looks like everything is in good order except the crank (which i suspected). I finally have a house, property, and most importantly a...
Just like with any technology (yes, these motors are a piece of technology), the absolute best way is to spend hours reading current events, innovations, ideas, setups, etc. If you want to learn the most possible, research everything, read every thread, explore build journals, and read...
Basically any turbo larger than a 14b is going to require at minimum injectors, afpr, wbo2, tuning software, and other misc parts which add a significant cost.
If you get either 16g or 20g you will definitely need:
bigger injectors
a quality afpr
and a way to tune
Wideband O2
Dont forget gaskets and parts for installChoosing between the two turbos is your choice, but definitely stay away from ebay, but the 20g will reduce wheel hop a bit on FWD. I...
Definitely take Bryan's advice, because it seems like for the most part you have been trying to eye everything/hold your thumb to the wind. Time to start taking measurements and getting a lot more into details.
Note, whatever you do, do not release freon to the atmosphere. This is terrible advice and goes against the nature of these forums. Instead, recover it properly like other users have already mentioned.
The catch can needs to be connected to a vacuum source to function properly.See last post of this thread:http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/pcv-oil-catch-can-setup-need-some-advice-on-an-install.457953/page-2
athlete3344 updated Long awaited decade long projectView updates to this DSM profile...Pics of the 20gPretty much I have the head and block ready to go to the machine shop. Im basically waiting for no good reason, except that I dont want to drop the cash yet lol.
Definitely use 10w-30 and see if the ticking is still there. Also, a return line is super cheap, like 12 or 25$. I think the 2g return line is cheaper and can be easily modded to fit the 1g. Make sure to order two new gaskets.
I read through another thread and didnt see many of the thoughts here.http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/what-all-causes-knock.241512/A few of the key questions I read (just trying to brainstorm),Maybe try seafoam? What about intake and coolant temps? Another idea, is it possible one of...
To add to bryan's comment, I would pick up a haynes/chiltons manual to help out with a lot of the how-to work.If you do the timing belt, grab a bench vice and friend who has done the timing belt before you pursue that job. It can easily be done in a few hours, and since youre already doing...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/advice-on-broken-fuel-line.432695/That what it looks like. Near the passenger side, on the firewall, as the above poster mentioned.
5.185" is the service limit but you can use a thicker gasket to make up for any extra material that would need to be removed. I would suggest using Jafro's head porting video also. If you want some after results, search the newbie forums for a thread I started, something like "Just ported me...
From this thread
http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/low-oil-pressure-and-car-smokes-alot.482622/#post-153449381Near the end we were discussing oiling with MHI turbos. Im posting this here because I have read a couple posts now saying MHI turbos dont require regulation from the OFH. This is...
If money is tight, youre better off ordering an internal WG from the classified or one of our supporting vendors. A new external WG is expensive, along with a new manifold or O2 housing (depending on your preference), and routing a dump tube for the WG. Youre talking like 20$ vs 400ish.
Its been a really long time since Ive seen the inside of the stock intake pipe, but is the BOV vent nozzle piped up at an angle? I think that would really be the only way to ensure the metered air enters the turbo.
From what I was reading, all 6 bolt heads have the same sized exhaust studs. Also, if you order from studs from any website, they ask 6 bolt or 7 bolt and with the stud spec is basically all the same size vs all the same size + 2 larger ones.I think from all my measurements, its definitely a...
If you look at the stock intake pipe where the BOV recirculates, its just a nozzle sticking off the side and the tube goes over it. I would just pipe it up flush, or put a nozzle on the new pipe to clamp it onto.
Only if it needs it. It depends on if you are replacing the pistons or not. Have you taken any measurements on the block, such as oil clearances, bearing journal dimensions, piston-to-wall clearances, etc to see if its still within spec?We cant really tell you what needs to be machined...
Just to add some backup to the correct way, see the video below at about the 10min mark.Jafro has tons of videos, and he has habits of doing things by the book and usually some extra on top of it. If you really are confused about whether to follow the book or wing it, I suggest watching...

No kidding! I know I saw BogusSVO mentioning a certain size set screw to use when removing the balls. Does the crank need to be rebalanced if you remove the balls? Im interested since Im in the middle of a rebuild.
Jafro's parts washer is something I will be using as a final wash. Also,
http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-final-wash-an-engine-block.362154/and I know I saw another thread about spraying the balls in the crank really well to clean out all the gunk. I cant find it, but the poster...
I would definitely recommend doing the blue printing and not relying on a shop or someone to check it. My project is heading to the shop now, but I double checked everything before I made any decisions. Luckily, everything is just about perfect, and definitely well within spec.Look at it...
What kind of machine work? The entire job, crank, 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block? For the head to fit, the head stud holes need to be enlarged to accommodate the 12mm head studs. I think 1/2" is what I remember seeing.

For the most part, hogging out intake runners wont do much. Yes it will flow more, but velocity will drop. The quicker you can move air, the better. Cleaning up the cast is about as much as you need to do for the intake runners, along with removing all pitting in the bowls. For the exhaust...
If you think about it, theres really only 4 possible options for your plug wiring.Leave 1 and 4, Leave 2 and 3; test for start

Ok, I think maybe then I will continue removing rust where I see it and get it hot tanked then. Ive been doing the oil mods, and after Im done channeling the returns, the block will be getting hot tanked after any how.
