I'll see if I can dig up the name. They do great work.Ppir is one I've wanted to visit. I have a buddy with a race prepped s2k who was just down there last week for time trial runs. High planes is another good track. Though its. A ways north of you.I'm expecting good things from the miata...
I've got a good place up in denver. If that's not too far pm me and I'll find the name of it. Glad to see ya painting. Too many dsms in our area are beat to shit. Also I'm planning on joining the BMW across club if you're interested. I just got a miata I'm building up. They're cheaper than...
Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I bought a Miata for a toy car and have been working on that a lot lately. The key was not in the car. It was the last hook up during the engine rebuild. When we went to crank we were very confused why there was no fuel pressure. Which lead to...
Nice update. I have power again to the ECU, MPI and FP relay are good now. All fuses good. Took another look at the ECU and I blew the track at D103. Just the track though, the black electronic component (can't remember what its called right now) is fine.So i'm on the hunt for a new eprom...
Been searching around and couldn't find specific help for my issue. This is on a 97 GSX that just finished a rebuild. Went to connect the battery last night to start it up and break it in and my roommate connected the ground terminal for the battery to the positive post. That blew the 100amp...
I don't know bout the duplicolor, but the flameproof stuff is awesome. Pained many exhaust manifolds and turbine housings with it and none have faded. I do a lot of hard mountain driving and without it the two glow hot red\orange. Kinda pretty actually.Anyway build looks awesome. Keep up the...
I could be wrong but the 2g filter and 1g will both fit. But the 2g is a smaller filter. I've always gone OEM or k&N I don't trust the cheap stuff after reading the thread on oil filter comparisons.
Gotta say that black is awesome! My last gst looked exactly like that with evo rims and all. I used to love the 2gb and wanted to convert my last gst and my current 96 gsx. But the more I stare at it with my coffee every morning the more I love it. The FMIC helps too. If your 2ga is clean. Keep...
Thanks for the reply. The melling looks the best out of all the aftermarket's I've seen. I'm probably gonna go OEM to be safe. No use in risking it on a fresh motor. Was just curious.
I've been reading around a lot and many people have said that mitsubishi don't fabricate their oem oil pump anymore. If this is true can anyone tell me which company it is now?I'm in need of a new front case and have gone through locally and they all have scarred journals for the drive...
I've got a set of continental dws on my gsx and love em. I'm in Colorado and have yet to have an issue with them in the snow. I take the car up skiing too. Thread wear is solid. Decent price. And they grip wonderfully for an all season when its dry out.
Valve seals will smoke on start up. Blue for oil.
Turbo seals will dump oil through the IC piping and blow blue smoke after a boosted pull. Check for in and out shaft play.
Bad rings will cause lower compression and smoke blue under deceleration.
You could. How comfortable. Are you with opening up the tranny? Also to me its worth the extra 200-300 bucks to have something just to drop in. Instead of another side project on top of another project.
Another fmic option is the vrsf kit. I looked at the PR kit when is was looking at intercoolers butr after reading around the vrsf wasd worth a little more money to me. Little to no fab work needed. Love the core.
Been here before. I feel your pain. Just grab a used tranny. You can usually find em for 400-600. Pita I know. But its the easiest option. If you find the piece it still wouldn't be worth it to JB weld or tig on. The cast housings are hard to weld right.
Right on. On another note. Could I do an ITM and put in my oem gears? I've heard mixed reviews on that one. Also i'm still running the 14b you sold me a while back. Love it. Have a 16g you rebuilt going into this motor. :hellyeah:
I was hesitant. But i've done some deals with the guy before. he said the motor broke or spun a rod. Can't remember which he said. Then was fixed. Possibly this pump was put in after? I'm not too sure. Can I not grind and smooth that down? Or too much material has been scraped already?
Almost done with this engine build. Just picked up this oil pump used from a guy locally. From what I can tell its either ITM or ACL/Orbit. When he gave it to me still had the balance shaft in. Said he pulled it from a motor that broke a rod (still unconfirmed on that). Now I know OEM Mitsu is...
I just picked up a used set of 2g pistons from a guy on here. Already have the oem standard sized rings. Thanks for the help guys! lesson learned the hard way...
This is just a stock rebuild. New rings yes. Shop already honed the walls to deglaze them. Goal is mid 300hp with 16g, FMIC 850cc injectors, dsm link etc....
Wire wheel is the 6" fine from home depot. I just spun them around the wheel and let it do the work, not much pressure. Sorry about the bad pictures, only camera I have on my broken iPhone. The top part of the piston (near the ring grooves) looks like it has pits in it, like typical cast flaw...
I just get paranoid about that stuff. I assume brushing them that low would affect the seal somehow. Is there a way to measure or check them to see if they are still okay?
Alright so I let my pistons soak in degreaser all night to loosen up the carbon in the ring grooves, however when I pulled them out today the part of the piston that was submerged was dark black. I started washing them off, and not even brake cleaner took care of it. So I decided to run them on...
Used the moog from Adv, had no issues. My CV was rusted so bad in the hub I had to grind them both out of the knuckle.I'd double check your cv boots too, might as well replace em while you're there if you need to.
This might be a silly question, and i've searched but can't find the direct answer i'm looking for. A buddy and I are rebuilding his motor on a 98 GSX (first rebuild for me) and we just got the block, crank and head back from the machine shop. They hot tanked the block but I realized I left the...
Wonderful little update on the car! I took it up the mountains to Vail a couple nights ago to see how it would do with steep inclines and long interstate driving. The verdict is, I forgot how much fun these cars are on i-70. With the new upgrades (as small as they are) I was passing quite a few...
Haha I know. It's just been the worst semester so far. We had that big flood here in Boulder and I was displaced for about a month and a half. Kinda screwed everything up.Thanks for the love though guys. The 2ga has grown on me. My first car was a 98 GST in cherry red and I thought i'd...
It's hard some days though that's for sure. If i'm sitting in a class discussing some obscure theory that pertains to social action I usually find myself on this site looking around at other peoples builds hah.I also do auto repair on the side to pay for tuition and rent (parents don't have...
Aren't they always though? There's still quite a lot i'd like to get done to her. But thanks! It's projects like these that keep me sane through school. One of the big reasons i'm getting that degree. So I can fund silly things like this!
Update! I forgot to take more pictures when I was finishing up the build for now. I was in a semi-rush so I could get emissions done and plates on a Friday. I ended up replacing the intake manifold gasket, tb gaskets, biss screw and injector orings while I had it up on blocks. They were all the...
I had the same issues with my 96 GSX. HC and CO were way above limits. That lead me into a larger build since I had to replace some stuff anyway. But for your info, it came down to a few things. I had a few boost leaks that were causing it to run rich. TB gaksets, biss screw, intake manifold...
I know it's more up front, but as people have said above DO BOTH together. On my last GST build I had the drivers axle frozen in the hub. Had to grind it off the knuckle and replace the hub and axle. Once I got it all back together (was doing a light rebuild) the pass side went out (just old...
I've seen too many (personally and on this forum) cars with 255s that overloaded the stock FPR. Even with tunes.I'm a bit sad at this point I went with the ported 14b, I can already tell i'll be wanting a bigger turbo soon. But this is also my DD and winter here in Colorado is almost upon us.
I'm gonna do the afpr when I put in the 255. It'll overpump the stock frp. It was running rich due to a few boost leaks plus a bad bov leaking out. Ontop of that the T25 was blowing oil through the motor in wonderful clouds of blue. What turbo are you running?
Haha for sure bud! This is the one car i've wanted to keep in the past two years. It's quite bizarre to have the same one in my driveway for this long.On mine (the purple one) I am gonna put DSM Link in. Haven't yet due to cash concerns and still have the stock 450cc injectors and stock fuel...
Love it. I'm going through a lot of the same stuff on my 2ga GSX and a rebuild on my roomates 2gb GSX. My roommate isn't big on the simple stuff, or "do it once do it right" mentality. There's a reason i'm rebuilding his motor at 140xxx. But I love to see people clean up the engine bay like...
