Haven't had much of a chance to hit the garage lately, but the other day I was able to put a couple hours in.I figured out the fan issue, first the radiator fan switch (at the bottom of the radiator) is bad, I jumpered the connector and the fan comes on. The AC condenser fan also was not...
Finally had some time to work on the Galant, this time I was sorting out the radiator. Because of the intercooler piping route, I have gone with a triple core Honda half size radiator. I did a bit of searching and quite a few people have successfully ran this radiator so I am giving it a shot...
I have smogged many cars in CA, I have lived here all my life and have been dealing with smogging modified cars since 2006 with my 240sx. I know for a fact going to a "no pass no pay" station they will not even attempt a smog check if they know it wont pass a visual, since they would be...
I do have an account on .org, and in fact you have commented on my thread in the newbie section. As for the smog question, I am hoping that everything will look stock enough to not make the tech look too closely, I know of a couple shops that don't seem to be too strict and I might get away...
A couple months ago it was 50% off day at Pick and Pull and they happened to have a white Galant I was hoping to steal some body panels off of. Unfortunately the main thing I wanted (Drivers fender) was damaged almost in the same way mine is so I struck out there. While browsing the random cars...
Now that we had the intercooler sorted out, we had to figure out the piping situation. We had the stuff that was used on the DSM we got the intercooler from, my friend got a couple pieces from someone else, and brought over his crate full of couplers. We mocked up a bunch of times and pieced...
Progress is slow when you have a child, so I can only get a little bit done at a time!So I planned on installing an external oil cooler from a 90 DSM, while testing locations with the bumper off, I noticed something weird with the factory intercooler. I took off the pipes and was greeted to...
No rust, being from California we are lucky that rust isn't even something we normally have to check for on our cars. The interior is good, just needs a good cleaning which is low on the priority list.Got my camera and found some more pics from the point where the last post left off.So I got...
Figured I would put together a complete build log for my Galant project, seeing as I am getting close to it being road worthy again...The story of this Galant begins about 5 years ago with my friend needing a new car and asking me for help in finding him something. Searching Craigslist...
the last pic from the CL posting shows the timing belt, look at the side closest to the motor and see the groove that is cut into the entire thing. That is what my friends GVR4 belt looked like when he got it, there is a bolt in the oil pan that if put in the wrong spot it sticks up too far and...
are you kidding me? Have you never messed with suspension before? Im not sure it its different in the dsm crowd but I used to own an rx7, and had multiple 240's and rolling fenders is an everyday thing to have flush decent sized wheels. And like it was stated, you could have adjusted those coils...
alright after poking around i found that when i pit back on the turbo outlet pipe i got this bracket that shares the bolt under the pipe, causing it to sit crooked and cause a huge boost leak. Shes all good to go now and im glad that it wasnt related to the timing belt.
I just did the timing belt on my friends GVR4 and everything seemed to go smoothly, i followed the vfaq directions and triple checked the marks. Got it all together and it started right up and seemed to be fine. It idled at about 950 but i figured it was because it was cold.I checked the...
you would be best off just getting a 91 shifter and swapping all over to a 91 shifter assembly. if you want to try to get what you have working then swap the bolt on shifter arm (the one that controls up and down movement) the other one has a pin holding it in, i hit mine with a punch and a 3lb...
did you swap the bracket that bolts to the trans? if using the 90 shifter you also need the bracket that bolts to the trans (that changed between 90 and 91) and the shifter arm that bolts to where the cables attach. you can keep the other arm that has a pin holding it in.
if you use just paint then brake dust will stick to it and be impossible to clean off, you can clear coat them like in that guide and it will help some. Personally i think gold/bronze looks great on red and black cars.
is it just first? can you shift the trans manually at the shift levers on the trans? (i assume its similar to a dsm's trans) The fact that it wont do it when the car is off is a pretty dead giveaway its not clutch related
I once saw a civic with an intercooler, i wondered what he had done to it, but then i looked a bit closer and you could see that one side of it didnt have any piping attached to it. I proceed to take a pic and laugh and show anyone that would get the joke.... Dont be the civic.
TIMING BELT!!! and balance shaft belt or eliminator kit. Check for transfer case leaks, and if it is check with a dealer to see if its been fixed under recall. I personally just got a new oil seal and used the vfaq page guide. If the transfer case runs out of fluid its bad news when your rear...
Im my area they go for anywhere between 2500 to 4000 depending on the condition and whatnot, my friend picked up one for 1750 though, body a bit rough but runs great and has a good interior. They have the same potential as the Eclipse/talon/laser seeing as they share the same engine and whatnot...
yeah, i have swapped everything from my 91 engine wise, wiring harness gauge cluster. Looks like now the shifter. Good thing i didnt junk the laser yet!
ive been fighting this stupid shifter for days now, if i can get a definitive answer if i can swap all the 91 stuff that would rock, i have every part from my 91 laser, the car isnt here with me though, otherwise i would be trying to swap them already.
Thats what i wanted to do, just want to make sure it can be done. Also when looking at the shifter, when going into 1,3,5 the shifter this the stopper, but when going into 2,4,r, once in gear it has about 1/2 inch of travel before hitting it, and thats what seems to cause the softness, its not...
Ok guys, so this shifter issue is killing me, i have been searching and keep getting the same answers. Here is the deal, i have a 90 awd that i just gor running not too long ago, i was coming from a 91 fwd laser and the shifter in that was fine, i even did the skateboard bearing trick and it...
had the same thing on my 240sx when checking the oil, it was more of a vapor than smoke, didnt linger and only lasted for a second. I wouldnt worry about it
the fwd and awd rears are slightly different, i went to put on some fwd rears on my awd and found out that the bracket where the ebrake bolts to is flipped, thus making them not interchange.
im not gonna lie, this sounds like much less work, time, and money than doing the conversion, and you know everything would be legit under the car. But like you said, its your car and you can do what you want.
Hey guys, i just got a new alarm installed on my talon since my 240 just got stolen yesterday. I got it all installed and it works like i want, unless i try to flip the lock manually or use the key the locks flip back and forth untill i hit the unlock button on the remote. Now i had a similar...
its hard to find, but its there, you have to go outside in the garden area and its in large bins. Some have a better finish than others, so look through them carefully. Its called diamond lok btw.
Its pretty much been 100% proven its the transfer case, he even said the rear end spins.
Changing the t-case isnt hard, just get the down pipe unbolted for clearance and have a long extension to get to the bolts on the top that you have to feel for. Have an extra jack to help you hold it when...
Just wanted to update this for anyone searching in the future on what i had to do to make it work.First i did what i had planned and just used the block and head while swapping over all parts from the 90 car. Couldnt get spark and there was some weird problem with the starter. So i decided to...
Im just about done swapping my engine into my awd talon and went to see if it would start or try to or anything, nothing so i checked and i wasnt getting spark. I decided to peek at the ecu to see if anything was messed up and got this:Black rtv like stuff all over it! Im sure that this...
Im having a very similar issue, key in the on position it cranks for like 5 seconds or so then stops. I know my starter is good on my car and have checked a lot of things. Make sure your starter relay is good and start checking the wiring like i am trying to.
still cant find anything obviously out of place except for these 2 things that i had to take a pic of, i checked my laser and it had neither of these.First is this weird orange thing that was behind the radio in the harness:a pulled back shot so you can tell where it is at:and i found...
does anyone know if bypassing the starter wiring and rewiring in my own starter relay straight off the ignition switch will pose any problems?Oh, and i thought about the problem a bit more and think there could possibly be a remote start system installed by the PO, that would make sense why...
ok guys, did a bunch of tests today and got some really strange results that confuse me. First off it for sure isnt the starter. So i have the diagrams from the fsm so i was checking it against the car, and everything looks to be in order. So this problem happens if the clutch is in or out, it...
So I thought this was a pretty unique issue im having with my starter. I got an awd shell with a bad motor, i had wanted to do a compression check just to see what it was, and when you turned the key to the on position it immediately started cranking and even when i removed the key it kept...
Could anyone provide me a pic with how the throttle/cruise control box bolts in to the car, when i took it off i didnt think it would be an issue figuring out how it went on, but i can not seem to figure it out.
so i have the engine in and mostly wired up. I have to put out there that there is way more differences between the years than just the parts listed here. (these at least were different from my 2 engines) The egr is different, the vacuum solenoids are different, a sensor on the water neck is...
I would check the brakes first, on the shell i just picked up 2 of the calipers were seized making it a pia to roll around. Just unbolt the caliper on the problem wheel and see if you can spin it.
