    Its a little unclear from your response, are you saying you removed the egr and just left the ports open? If so you definitely need to block that off or it will dump the exhaust gas into the engine bay. +1 for base timing or i'm also thinking head gasket, do a leak down test.

    It's a CAMCOVER and it's not particular about what kind of metal it was installed on, just the surface condition, and temperature it's exposed to. Camcover sees a TON of heat and only engine enamel would be appropriate for that location (or powdercoat)
