  1. 2g head on a 1g block

Here's the answer:1g heads are for choads. 2g heads are for those that have done their research.
  2. TransBreak for DSM?

RWD conversions use different transmissions that can offer transbrakes... this doesn't help the fwd/awd crowd much though.
  3. Lancer Evolution III Intake Manifold

So is nobody going to answer about the intake manifold support bracket? I am, too, surprised that the peak numbers didn't go up, but I'd really not care that much given that you gained hp throughout the whole curve. That is more important to me than the peak power. Peak power will go up when...
  4. Bad water pump.. have a question!!

The motor does not have to come out to change the water pump but you will have to take off the timing components because one of it's bolts is behind the tensioner pulley's arm it's bolted to.
  5. Testing a 4G63 wiring harness last night.

Lol your girlfriend must be PISSED.
  6. 1G NT BC 272 cams?

I'd go for incredibly high CR pistons, 2.4L, 2g head, and adjustable cam gears. Don't listen to ANYONE telling you that adjustable gears won't get you HP... because they're full of balogna if they tell yo uthat... lol. I REALLY want what they're smokin.
  7. Low compression after head install

Yeah... installing squishy lifters in a head is a no-no. I dunno who told you to do that but you might question what kind of advice you take from them in the future. What I do, is pump all the lifters back full of oil BY HAND by submerging them in oil and squishing them a few times until they...
  8. 1G removing coolant line from throttle body?

That is not correct. You can screw the adjustment under the freeze plug all the way clockwise to shut the valve permanently... The proper adjustment of your BISS and a functioning ISC will keep your idle proper.I did the same thing to my car as Sam from RRE explained in another thread and...
  9. Lancer Evolution III Intake Manifold

Are you guys using intake manifold support brackets at all? I found that none of the ones I had would fit the evo3 intake I have... so now I'm stuck with either not running one or making one out of bar stock.
  10. My new e85 16g setup!!

    Running 27* timing on a friend's car I just tuned on e85.
  11. head gasket still good+rings+valve seals

As long as you didn't warp the head, reusing a $125 mls hg is fine..... or you can spend money that could go towards something good on another hg when the one you had was in good condition.I've reused mine 3 times now w/ no compression issues resulting from it.
  12. Custom Valve Cover

Funny how people are so quick to say someone isn't about sh1t when they don't keyboard cowboy a reply within a few hours.
  13. Evo3 vs FP manifold

All you have to do is log IAT with and without a properly designed hood vent above the manifold.
  14. Evo3 vs FP manifold

^^ It is not rocket surgery that if your under hood temps are hot and you don't have a cold air intake or way of efficiently venting under hood temperatures then you're getting hotter IAT's which are robbing you of HP.
  15. Whats your sleeper? (best looking sleeper)

^^That is sick Eclipsh... Never realized you did that to an ES. I don't really look at dsm's as sleepers because I know what they do... unless you put nt wheels and take all the badging off your car I will always wonder to myself, ok how fast is this 1g turbo here.
  16. General Looking for 2G TunerPro XDF / Stock bin

They just told you where to find it more than once and linked you. Look in the files section on the yahoo discussion group.
  17. turbo can't pass 10 psi colt.

    Exhaust leak preturbo somewhere??
  18. 2g head on a 6bolt block Rebuild #2

You can use whatever stat housing you want... one head uses bolts the other uses studs... just get bolts or studs depending on what you need... it's really not hard to figure out. Also you don't need to crank those down super hard, remember the head is aluminum and you can pull threads out of...
  19. 2g head on a 6bolt block Rebuild #2

It's the passenger/exhaust corner stud hole that goes from the block to the valve body... and yes I learned the hard way by oil starving a 2g head from not drilling out big enough to allow oil passage.
  20. How would you know if you need to bore your engine?

Seriously?.... if you can feel scratches in the cylinder with your fingernail the block WILL NEED to be bored... forget the gauge... forget the machine shop inspection.... or you can do it the "tuners" way and just hone a gouged cylinder bore put new rings in it and get some nice shiny new...
  21. 2g head on a 6bolt block Rebuild #2

Why not use the 2g cas that goes behind the cam gear and the stock wiring...also, you will need to use the timing components and engine accessories that go on the 6bolt block.
  22. ECMLink v3 lite speed density

I don't agree. I have helped tune plenty of cars where the timing needed to be edited while we were driving... or we could have spent more time finding a place to stop and changing it, then turning the car back on... instead of doing run after run finding the sweet spot quickly by doing the...
  23. ECMLink v3 lite speed density

How is it a matter of opinion? Price is not an opinion. Sorry, I'm not trying to go off topic here, I just don't understand what you meant by that. And, for the record I haven't made a choice about what I want to use yet. But cost and real time tuning ability are weighing heavily on the...
  24. Car is running like shit! And I'm stumped.

Check your turbo for excessive play.
  25. were did you put your wibeband o2?

In the downpipe before the flex section..
  26. ECMLink v3 lite speed density

I wouldn't say that link lite is "slightly more expensive" than dsmap... when you take the "givens" out of the equation...eprom ecu wideband sd sensors and harnessThose are necessary for both platforms to run and tune properly w/ speed density...Now you need a logging cable and software...
  27. How would you know if you need to bore your engine?

If you can feel anything with your fingernail in the cyl bore then you're going to need more than just a hone.
  28. 6 bolt head swap, turbo head on nt block

It won't damage your car.... but I would put the n/t cams back in the head... other than that there is no difference between the n/t and turbo 6bolt heads.
  29. Intake Manifold Temp?

I don't think an intake manifold should reach 200 degrees. Also... you could vent your hood to help get rid of some of the hot engine bay temps... and that'll help control things a bit better. I've seen people use jbweld on stuff like that before too with absolutely zero leak problems after...
  30. dsmlink v3 lite? or not?

I would seriously go read on What's new at DS-Map? | DSMAP before making a decision. I'm in the same boat right now, but am well educated on both systems. I'm just really trying to find out why I should pay so much for link when jackal is free... and i'm having a hard time finding a reason.
  31. 6 bolt or 7 bolt?

7bolt motors kick ass and i'm not being sarcastic.
  32. hotside dump tube how much power

Does that not count as evidence or was it speculated horsepower that he picked up on the dyno?ROFL
  33. Oil Leak Near Timing Belt near top of motor

Like I said, clean off the area that is dirty from the leaked oil, go drive the car, then go look again and it should be obvious where the oil is leaking from.
  34. hotside dump tube how much power

Can you explain that more? If there's scavenging in an NA motor because of exhaust pulses leaving the system, how is this not happening in a turbo application?I'm not implying you're wrong, I'd just like some more info on it.
  35. Oil Leak Near Timing Belt near top of motor

I'd be likely to believe the cam seal is bad... but there is also the chance it is the vc gasket. I would doubt it's the hg. VC gasket can be screwed up easily if you don't thoroughly clean the mating surfaces and put little dabs of silicone in the corners of where the end cam caps meet the...
  36. hotside dump tube how much power

Ah yes I see... sorry for the confusion.
  37. hotside dump tube how much power

Yeah... but even with a cracked housing would that affect the reading since they're measuring at the muffler, or does a cracked housing w/ an open dump somehow pull in open air and dilute the exhaust? Even then I think it would "help" it pass.In any case, you are right about the visual...
  38. hotside dump tube how much power

How does a dump tube affect emissions if the emissions test is only done under a certain rpm (~2000) where you will never see the wg open anyway unless you're running a baby dick turbo set to 1psi?I also didn't know that "noticeable hp" was something that anyone was going for. Any increase...
  39. hotside dump tube how much power

Alright Scott :tease: Lolka it's a good thing I'm not "doing some reading" on this site or else I'd be absorbing your conflicting information.Maybe you should give others a chance to answer so that you don't come off as that annoying kid that raises his hand in class saying pick me pick...
  40. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

So you're saying that a FWD making far less power cannot hook and get good times enough to beat an AWD?:confused:I will have fun running my car at the track OVER and OVER while... you guys puke tranny and xfer case guts on the track and make everyone wait an hour while they clean that stuff...
  41. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

DAMN SICK BURN!!! Lol... :rocks:Ok, now who's gonna argue with the man behind the FWD record?
  42. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

Wheel hop is an easy fix. If you have junk motor mounts and an improper suspension setup then it serves you right for letting your car wheel hop. You'll bone your trans in no time doing that regularly. My car will just do burn outs because I had stiff motor mounts and suspension that was...
  43. Cant choose? DSM or 240sx?

sr20's are garbage... be a man and turbo the ka... (like you already did). The sr nissans are as bad as hondas using their cars for fashion statements and being rude to people that don't have completely slammed cars... with their faux hawk hair cuts lolol. My buddy turbo'd his ka24 and he...
  44. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

You can also tune by brake boosting if you're not interested in breaking the speed limit or don't have access to a track to tune on.IMO torque steer is fun... and this can be remedied by installing a driver's side awd axle and carrier.Yes, the AWD's that are getting whooped by hondas are...
  45. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

I'm definitely not saying that one is hands down better than the other in all situations.... but I've been to a LOT of street races in Texas where the honda boys were just mopping the floor with the AWD dsm guys... even the DSM's that had larger turbos. I HATE to see that happen, I want the...
  46. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

My car would break loose in third when boost hit on my small 16g.... if I were too far in the throttle.PBoglio, I'm not saying all AWD guys are unskilled... but it just really seems like it takes the "guess work" out of driving and a lot of people just don't recognize that or refuse to...
  47. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

I really have had no handling issues w/ my car on the clover leafs or otherwise. Like I said, some people NEED AWD so that they can drive well.;)Or the cheap ass DSM crowd needs to spend money in the right places instead of 1600cc injectors, try some suspension bushings and better tires...
  48. Opinions on FWD vs. AWD

This forum should be called DSMArguers or DSMDisagreers.. I think it's much more fitting of the types of exchanges that go on here 90% of the time lol.
