Those inspections are just one of the many reasons I'll never live in Cali haha. I keep my car registered where my parents live in PA so I don't even have to have an emissions test at all. The strictest part of my inspection is visually checking to see if there is a cat, and welding the shell of...
The color looks pretty close to factory Cayenne Red Pearl as someone mentioned earlier. That being said, it's definitely a nice looking color on a DSM. The only visual things I would be in a hurry to change if I were you would be to get a set of OEM headlights with black housings and do a 2gb...
I'm currently taking an HR management course and I have to ask someone working in HR a few basic questions. I was supposed to interview someone local this week, but he canceled at the last minute. If anyone happens to work in HR and would be willing to answer a few questions via email, let me...
To NosLaser; I would just like to say that people like you give me hope that maybe someday, the reality of the matter will prevail and naive people will finally realize some archaic laws need to be done away with. I have written a few Op Ed's on this subject and I couldn't have made the points...
The filter makes more of a difference than anything in terms of sound. I ran a K&N on the stock snorkel for a long time and it magnified the sounds of the turbo and bov greatly. Regardless, if you install both an open element filter and hard pipe, you will definitely notice a difference in sound.
Man that thing looks clean, and in Cayenne Red Pearl too. I would see if he'll knock a little off the price just because of the high mileage, but either way I don't think it's a bad buy.
I'm about to finish my 4th year of college and the only thing that keeps me from doing what I want to my DSM is money (or lack thereof). There's perhaps "smarter" things to spend your money on when you're in college, but if cars are your passion (and I'm guessing they are since you're going for...
That looks sick either way! I like the way the first looks at night better, but I like the second better in the day light because you can still read the "ECLIPSE."
If it were me, I would just repaint it white myself to match the car. It may not look perfect in the end, but it won't cost much more and you obviously aren't trying to make your car a show car so who cares?
The Evo VIII and IX bov's will fit a 2g with no issues, but don't plan on the one from the VIII being much of an upgrade. The Evo IX stock valve is metal however and is a direct replacement on a 2g that uncrushed or unmodded will hold more boost without leaking than a 1g valve.
Here's some more pics of the one in the 2nd post. I saw the car in person a few times and it was built to a very high quality. I'm not normally a big fan of flashy show cars or DSM's with body kits, but this one was just so well built that I can't say I didn't like it.
If you really still can't figure out which engine is in your car based on the decals or whatever else, pop the hood and look at the engine. This is what a stock 4G63T looks like in a 2g.
The car pictured sadly no longer exists. It was parted out by a guy here in PA probably a little less than a year ago. Many of the parts went on one other car, but not nearly all of them.EDIT: The guy who bought and parted it out was the guy tonyseagle linked to.
I wouldn't even bother doing it if I were you. No matter how you go about doing it, it won't sound like it should because, among other reasons, the factory head unit won't produce a powerful or clean enough signal. If you don't have the money to buy an aftermarket head unit, but really want some...
You'll definitely want a bigger turbo unless you want to make 400whp the hard way. To get that with a 16g, you'll need to switch to e85, have every supporting mod, and a hell of a tune. Do some research to see what turbo would fit your needs and figure out what fuel system you are currently...
While it is true that tubular manifolds from eBay sellers have been known to crack easily, the OP was asking about turbo-back exhaust components so telling him to avoid eBay was not necessarily good advice.
Exhaust parts are some of the few parts that you can get away with purchasing from eBay. That's not to say that there aren't some bad systems out there, but I haven't heard of anyone who has had an issue with an exhaust system from a seller with almost completely positive feedback. My cat-back...
There isn't one cheap upgrade that is going to make a huge difference on a bone stock car. Because of this I always start with exhaust and intake because I like to at least hear the car. Then again for the same money you could get ECMLink which won't do a hell of lot in terms of making you...
Read this post and ignore pretty much everything else posted. Plan to wire your two subs in parallel so your net impedance will be 2 Ohms. Use a class D/mono channel amp to power them and look for one that is rated at more than 300 watts RMS (at 2 Ohms). Any less than that and the subs won't...
As much as I hate to admit it, I threw out two cats before because they were rusted and I didn't think they could be worth that much. I actually have another one sitting around and I will definitely not be throwing it out. I won't be happy if I don't get at least $60 for it.
If it's in usable condition, I don't see any reason not to buy it. They sell for a lot more than a junk yard will charge you. Even if you don't have a buyer right away, I'm sure you can find someone in minimal time who would be interested.I doubt you'll get $230 for it, especially if it was...
Unless you're planning an absolutely ridiculous build, ECMLink should be able to handle your tuning needs. Not too many DSM people are running standalones with Link's capabilities. With that said, I wouldn't even know who to go to to get your car tuned with that. I at least know of a few shops...
People commonly have lots of problems with them, hence the "Lambo doors suck" comments. They are not practical in any way. The only reason some Lambo's even have them is so they can physically open a door when parked in a parking lot (they are incredibly wide).
Unless you really just want to get every little bit out of that 16g, I would look for another turbo. There's plenty of other parts you could buy right now, but for the money you'll get more gain out of going with a bigger turbo. Then when you're making bigger power, you'll see more of a benefit...
Like I said, it would yield no noticeable gain. If he has a stock exhaust on his car, I'm assuming he hasn't upgraded his turbo yet either meaning he's already going to have ridiculously quick spool (especially if it's a 2g). Either way, if you hack the muffler off and punch out the cat, you'll...
I wouldn't bother doing anything like that on a stock exhaust. It won't sound good and won't really yield much of a performance gain because the stock piping will still be highly restrictive. Just buy a full aftermarket exhaust system or have one made and be done with it.
I'm assuming when you say "vent" you don't mean you actually vented your bov to the atmosphere which would be a bad idea without speed density or a gm maf and translator. Either way, do a boost leak test and see if it's leaking. Just check everywhere while you're at it because if you haven't...
Definitely the rears out of the two, just because they're 16's and the other ones are absolutely hideous. Like everyone else said, I would look for at least some stockers in the future though.
If you really just want a cheap test pipe, all you need is a length of 3" pipe with flanges on each end. As long as it's the same length as whatever cat you would run, it'll work. I would just go to an exhaust shop and have one made in your desired length if I were you. That's probably the...
What downpipe are you planning on running? Most aftermarket ones eliminate the cat already so there is no need for a separate test pipe (there will be no gap), so if you don't have one already just save yourself the trouble and get one that eliminates the cat.
I had that same problem before and I just decided to wait until I had a full turbo-back exhaust. It just wasn't worth the trouble of separating the flanges when I knew I was going to be replacing the whole thing eventually anyway.
I think it would cost under $20. He could add graphics and do whatever else to it too. I'll get an exact price from him and let you know.Edit: He said it would be around $22 to make a high quality 2'x3' poster.
It's great to see everything that's gone into your car since the beginning. I feel like it's one of the most followed cars on this site yet I never really saw the complete picture before. I can't wait to see what the new compound setup does!
I know I've already told you, but your car looks damn nice. I'm actually debating taking one of those high res pics I got from you and having my buddy who works in the photo department at Wal-Mart blow it up into a poster since DSM posters are nonexistent haha.
That white Spyder is the one I would've posted if it hadn't been already. I don't generally even like convertibles, but that car looks amazing. That being said, I say do it!
I noticed a hiss like you described in a Chevy Impala that my mom drives. It has done it since it was purchased brand new. From what I can tell it is fairly common in cars with an external amp. In many cars this amp will turn on when the door is opened because it will be needed to power the...
