Haha, thanks a lot for the info guys. That's what i was thinking because it just sounds so weird right? But since coming from a mechanic who i thought knew his stuff i needed to verify with you guys who i know you know your stuff. I do appreciate it. I'll ask him to explain his reasoning next...
Hey guys, want to run something by you. thanks in advance.I know, and I have searched here, that timing marks should be lined up perfectly left sproket at 3 o'clock and right at 9 o'clock. We have a problem, that may be involve the timing. The mechanic checked the timing job and the timing...
hey thanks a lot guys. i appreciate your input. What do you think about this that i just found?http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-ECU.htm#DoestheECUcontrolthetransmissionI basically says that the ecu is separate from the transmission control unit, and they dont communicate, but...
Hey guys, I've done some research here and am still not quite sure about this.My car is a 96 Eagle Talon 2.0 non-turbo with automatic transmission. The ECU i want to put in it came off a 97 Eclipse 2.0 non-turbo with manual transmission. So same car the only difference is the...
Thanks for the info guys. That's pretty weird. There is only one plug down there (below drivers side dash), so I'm thinking that's gotta be the one.Anyway, since I switched the coil and the CEL stayed, I figured i would try a new pigtail connector. I Installed it and no difference. Same CEL 43...
Hey guys. So i rented a scanner from autozone and it didn't fit, and rented another from oreiley's with more adapters for different connectors and it didn't fit either. You guys had this problem before?I'm guessing mine is not a OBD II. (I have a 96 talon but made in 95). And the OBD I didnt...
Hey Guys. My 2GNT is giving me CEL code 43. Its for ignition coil as stated at 2GNT.com here: 2GNT.com - PCM_Error_CodesI got a brand new MSD ignition coil. I also got brand new spark plug wires and spark plugs. But no change. Any ideas as to why this CEL code wont go away?If its of any...
Thanks a lot Rafiel. This method is more what i was looking for. Ill try that.Paul, I wasn't really understanding the rotating the assembly by hand. But thanks a lot anyway. Thanks everyone.
Hey guys,I already tested the harnesses and they were good. I have the specs for testing the Crankshaft and Camshaft Sensors themselves for my 96 N/T, but need to know HOW to test them. Your help is appreciated.Specs, coming form this thread...
Thanks Ronin'. I'm not sure what you mean by "burping". If you mean let the engine run with thermostat cap off for a while and then filling it again, yes. I did that. But ill try again to make sure.About the coil:I haven't changed the coil, its was only just a little bit off specs. So I'm...
thanks for the input guys. I just checked the timing, and its dead-on so that's not it.I checked out the engine bay pretty good, and everything looks good. The MAP sensor seamed fine, and i couldn't find any pulled hoses. I'll be checking out under the car also see if there is anything pulled...
hey thanks guys! nice links too. So yup, i checked my timing marks with the screwdriver trick. They were good. Thanks a lot for coming through with the help guys. I really appreciate it.
hey thanks. is this what youre talking about and is that the best way to do it?: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/253035-checking-vacuum-leaks.htmlAlso, any other input will be appreciated thanks a lot!
Alright steve thanks a lot.I will try turning the cranshaft pulley (without removing the drivebelts :-) ), and try out the top-stroke trick. I'll update as soon as i get a chance to do this. Thanks again!
Hey guys. Thanks in advance. I did a Timing belt/ Water pump replacement on my 2G N/T and am having some problems. I also changed my radiator. At first when we finished the T-belt job, we started it up for a very short while and it seamed fine. At this point we noticed a crack at the top tank...
The thing is that my 2.0 N/T doesnt have that ignition timing mark. Even at Chilton's it says "For the 2.0L non-turbo engines, it is not necessary to check the ignition timing using a timing light, as the crankshaft position is detected directly and the timing is controlled electronically"...
Yep, I've seen that Vfaq. But i was hoping I could recheck the mechanical without taking the drive belts and crankshaft pulley out. It looks like its not possible. Thanks guys.
Hey steve. Your right. Mine is the N/T. And i think the the guys are talking about the Turbo. 'Preciate it none the less...So yes, its 420A specificThanks for helping me clarify that
Thanks guys, i think i got it.I'm not understanding the quoted though. How could the cams line up if i cant set TDC when fully assembled? (And if i could, then i could totally check the timing). Am i reading/understanding it wrong? Please clarify, thanks a lot.
Hey guys. I put in a new timing belt on my 96 2G. I made sure the marks on the camshaft sprockets were dead-on. Now that everything is fully assembled again, how do I re-check the timing?(I'm assuming that's what the window at the top of the timing cover is for, but don't know how.)And if...
...I checked timing at TDC after installing the front timing cover and it was good. Could it have jumped or somehow got off timing after? Is there a way to check timing at TDC without removing the drive belts and crankshaft pulley?Any other suggestions of what it could be are appreciated...
Hey guys. I recently did a water pump / timing belt job. At the same time also had the plastic tank on my radiator replaced. I filled the radiator with antifreeze, then some more with the car idling like Chilton's says, and everything seamed fine, nothing weird. Then when I turned it on again...
Hey thanks for your advice everyone. For future reference, here is what I ended up doing:Turns out this plastic part at the top is a tank that can be replaced. Called around and found a small radiator shop that did those replacements. $65 for the tank including labor. I did have to bring them...
Hey guys. Thanks for your help in advance. I have a small hairline crack at the top of my radiator (plastic). Its about an inch and a quarter long. When i turn the car on i see a very small puddle of water on the top plastic part of the radiator, that's how I found this crack. Do you guys know...
Alright guys, anybody viewing this in the future here are the solutions:For the camashaft sprockets:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/353516-camshaft-sprocket-removal-crowbar.htmlFor the carankshaft sprockets: --if you just want to get this off to get to the rear cover..---...
Hey guys, thank you for all your suggestions. I've just done it. Here is how i did it, and it worked (just another suggestion for any future views):Both camshafts sprockets have a bolts (for rear timing belt cover) behind them that you can get to through the holes in the camshaft sprockets...
Hey guys. I'm trying to remove the camshaft sprockets on my 96 n/t.Timing Belt VFAQ says I can do with without the special tool and hold the sprockets in place with a crowbar instead (while the retaining bolt is being removed).Anyone done this before? Can anyone offer any further...
Hey guys, thanks a lot for your suggestions. I just did it, and its tooo frekin easy! For anybody looking at this for future reference, here is what I did, and its just what everyone suggests:1. Remove the front motor mount
2. Jack up the engine with a piece of wood under the oil pan.
3...
Hey guys, Im trying to remove the timing belt cover on my 96 non turbo. The motor mount bracket bolts that go through it are crazy long, and there is not enough space to remove them.I searched the forums and it looks like i need to drill some holes to get both of those bolts out...
Hi guys, Thanks in advance.
I'll be replacing the water pump on my 96 non-turbo and therefore need to take out the timing belt. The thing is my Chilton's manual calls for all these special tools to remove/install the camshafts / crankshaft sprockets, and I can't seam to be able to rent...
Hey guys. Quick question: What is up with all the different gaps?I got a NGK BKR6E from pepboys. Pepboys tells me to gap at .050.My Owners manual says NGK (although a different one from the BKR6E) set to .028 - .032.And my my Chiltons repair manual says to go .039-.042.Which...
Right, I guess the compression test only eliminated other possibilities.Yes, lets hope its not the issue with the head :pray:I think I'll try the valve stem seals. Noted: 'top quality viton "blue" seal'.Wow, thanks for those links, got lots of good stuff. Definitely tells you what...
Hey BogusSVO, I appreciate your help.Your right, I am low on power. Its kinda slow.I took it to a shop and they did it for me. Im not sure where they got it from to tell you the long block from to tell you the truth.By the way, I just did the compression test right now. It looks...
Hey BogusSVO, thanks for your reply.I got a remanufactured long block included cylinder head in 2002. Since then I've only driven it 30k miles. No oil aditives or engine flushes. And not loosing coolant.Do you think the symptoms are related? I mean like the vavle stem...
Hey guys. First of all let me say thanks for your help in advance.Mine is a 96 Talon non-turbo. I checked my spark plugs and here is what I found:All but one spark plug had this going on: The metal case and a part of the white porcelain insulator (right were it meats the metal case) are...
