Ok all, the previous owner of this car (my buddy), wanted to buy the car back (now that its running, go figure) and offered me cash for it... I couldnt refuse and sold him back the car.
I will be on the hunt for another car and we'll see what happens.
As far as I know the 6-Bolt CAS is the way to go, the 7-Bolt set up seems to be unreliable... You can repin/rewire the connector to work with the 7-bolt harness as far as I know. There should be plenty of info on here for the 7 to 6 swap and the CAS swap.
The coolant lines should be the same...
I would look at AirLift, they have quite a few kits for Sport Compacts and universal applications. You just need to make sure the air struts have the correct travel and are sized correctly to replace the existing struts. Then its just a matter of what compressor(s), tank(s) and air management...
I agree man, its better than being out doing drugs, stealing stuff, beating people up or whatever... Whenever my parents whined about it (in my younger days) I said I could out getting high and girls pregnant instead! ROFL
I agree, I dont really understand the whole EVO thing personally, my buddy had one and it wasnt all that impressive... (No offense to anyone, just not my cup of tea)
Car is coming along well man, I need to port my OFH more after seeing yours...
For sure, a friends brother had one I worked on a few years ago and it was a blast. It had a 20G and some other mods, that thing would launch like now ones business. Embarrassed a few Camaro owners in our "4 door POS" it was a great time, miss that car... Idiot sold it for an Evo to be like all...
Update:
I have about 300 miles on the car, no major issues, one small oil leak to track down still and tuning issues to iron out... Still need a wideband to get any real tuning though.
Faded95,Thanks man, I have to agree, always loved this color combo and glad I finally have one... I mostly stay around the Brighton area, but Im up north here and there.I have about 150 miles on the car now, I havent driven it much, been busy with other stuff. I retorqued the head studs...
Ok, I installed the CAS w/the new o-ring and a little RTV, new exhaust gasket and lock nuts and changed the oil/filter. I noticed that my rear water line to the turbo is leaking a little at the main water pipe, can I get a crows foot or something up there to snug the line w/o taking a bunch of...
Ok thanks, hopefully its something in the wiring then, guess Ill find out.Update:So on my home lastnight the car starting running like crap, I roll down my window to see if I could hear/smell anything abnormal and there was a huge exhaust leak, I was pissed. I baby the car home and the two...
iugrad92turbo: I hear ya, it was way easier since the car didnt have an engine/trans in it when I bought it.bjjnerd85: Thanks for the info, Im just concerned because I noticed today it doesnt move at all, it is buried on cold. If I pull the wire off the sender and ground it the gauge...
Thanks buddy, I appreciate it, I really like the blue. I have seen some very clean Pandas though.I also need some help/advice, my water temp and oil pressure gauges arent working, I replaced the one wire sensor in the t-stat housing and no change on the water temp. I havent tired replacing...
Thanks so much, I appreciate it, I'm trying! The car had its first bath in years today, it was so nice to be able to pull it out of the garage and wash it. Afterwards I drove it to the gas station for its first fill up and I remember why I love these cars so much!
Best update of all, I pulled the console apart again, messed around w/the ECU some... Plugged in the laptop again and got it link up. I made all the necessary changes in Link and it fired up first turn of the key!! So stoked!! Have one small oil leak to track down... Its running down from above...
Update:So last night I put oil in the engine, put a couple gallons of gas in the tank, turned the batt switch on and cranked the engine over to check everything out... put the MPI fuse back in and still no fuel pump (no surprise), I then tested my f/p re-wire relay, had power and ground, but...
Update time: So I plugged in the lap top again, configured the Comm port correctly this time and I got it to "link" but I still get no response form the PCM. I still need to track down the power issue at the OBD port also.I then moved on to cleaning up more of the engine bay, tightened the...
@ErikTande - Thank you very much, it has been a lot of work, but Ive enjoyed working on a DSM again as well... much easier to deal with than my F-Body was!@iugrad92turbo - Im starting to think so, I dont think I set up the Comm port (properly) and need to try it again to be certain. I am...
Ok all, I havent had a chance to plug my lap top back into the car yet, I will get to that this weekend. I did wrap up a few small things while I had a few minutes though. I ordered new clear park lamps and LED bulbs to go with them, the ones that came with car had broken mounting tabs and I...
Not that I noticed, I will hook it up again and try, but I dont think I was getting any light at all. I also did not have 12V at the pin with the key on, so Im assuming that I have an electrical/fuse issue somewhere. I also havent checked it out, but my fuel pump doesnt seem to be running with...
Thanks, I can try that as well, this cord is brand new/never used. It still had the twist ties on it when I took it out of the box... Doesnt mean its not a "bad" cable though, thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks guys, I will try that, I just feel that the LED on the Link cable should be lite up when I have the key on and trying to connect correct?iugrad92turbo, which fuse was that on a 1G? I didnt see any blown, but I also wasnt sure what I looking for. The cig lighter does work, I have...
Ok all, I need some help/advise: I hooked up my Link cable and laptop yesterday to to see if I could start working with Link. I had no light (power) on the Link cable and it wont communicate (obviously), any ideas on why I dont have power at the DTC port? I checked my fuse at under the hood...
Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been slammed with a ton of stuff. Anyway, I finally installed the oil cooler, all ducts, the bumper cover and headlights. I had to order new park lenses also, found out one of mine had broken mounting points.Pics:
Well, I didnt get as far as I wanted too, but mounted up the oil cooler and started working on the radiator duct. Once I have the duct trimmed to clear the oil cooler I can put the bumper cover on hopefully.Pics:SMIC Duct:
I finally picked up a battery last weekend, I ended up just getting the factory replacement for my DD (12' Malibu) in case I would need to switch the batteries for some reason... I figured it should have enough power, it is sealed, 3 year full replacement warranty and has the built in vent tube...
No doubt, I agree, luckily I have a checklist to keep me in focus. Im not necessarily "rushing" anything, Id just like to be driving this thing now after all this work is all. :)
Updates:I figured out the spark plugs are 13/16", the socket I had was too thick to fit into the head, so I thought it was too large..I installed the charge wire, starter power cable, finished up the alternator wiring and cleaned up the harness at the OFH. I need to finish making ground...
Small update today, I ordered more electrical connectors so I can build my ground cables, also ordered more heat shrink for the fan relay harness. I am hoping to be done with the wiring this weekend, then I need to install the oil cooler, all the ducting and the bumper cover next. Also have a...
Update:Lastnight I installed my new lift supports (PITA), finished the trim panels for the trunk floor, bolted them down, trimmed out the carpet for the battery box and put everything back together. Hopefully I am done with that area for awhile (minus installing a new battery). I also worked...
Ok all, I finally took some pics of the engine in place and about half wired. I feel like I'm getting somewhere now... I also started to finalize the distribution blocks and mock up the power connections.I also found out I had the incorrect flywheel bolts, so I ordered a set of OE bolts...
