I was talking with a guy that owned a 97 Dodge Neon. From what I have been reading, the Neon is kind of like the bastard brother of the 420a in the Talon. Anyway, he was saying that he was having roughly the same issue as me, but his was more temperature sensitive. But after doing, roughly...
Used an MLS gasket for replacement.
The block side was shiny, like the inside of a pop can.
The block was hot tanked for cleaning by them
and I got some smudges on it, so I cleaned it again with carb cleaner.
From the looks of it, I am going to assume that was how it was done. He said something about that he took two swipes at it with .001 lower with each. I had NO idea what he was talking about so I just smiled and handed him $50. I guess I could be wrong, but I believe that he know what he was...
Shit, I don't know... I dropped it off at a local machine shop that had heads laying around like they were peices of paper with an old biker looking guy with a bad attitude. Seemed like a safe bet... :DUsually the grumpiest mechanics / laborers do the best job.... or atleast in my...
Updated;Replaced the EGR Valve Gasket again... Not sure why... Just thought it might help...
Checked the exhaust system... Can't find any leaks, can't see any pinholes... (Dish Soap Trick)I have come to the conclusion that the whistle only comes while driving. I can wind the car nearly...
Yeah, The head was ALREADY resurfaced by a machine shop. I assume that it was decked correctly. The bolt WERE dipped in clean oil. It is not the valve cover. I reseated it and wiped off any oil that was spilled / leaked. That part looks fine...
Yeah, I'm sorry, but does anyone else have an idea? I torqued them in sequence, 50ft/lbs on the out sides 25ftlbs on the inside bolts, the head was decked...anything?
Okay, So I have been in the process of changing the girlfriend's head gasket on a 97 ESi. Got everything torn apart, had the head decked. Cleaned off the block with a light scotch-brite treatment and gasket remover. Carb cleaned it again. Slapped everything back together.Started with an...
Do you HAVE to? No.
Simple answer...I actually took the head off a 2g, brought it in for decking and totally forgot to take them out. I got the head back complete with still fitted spark plugs. Is it recommended? Hell yes! :thumb:Don't be like me... :D
Update;New Symptom;
Now occationally, I get a High pitched whistle when I get up to 5-6k rpm. Not consistantly, but maybe 1 out of 20 times. When I get the whistle, check engine pops on with P0442. EVAP system leak.Had the engine smoked this weekend AGAIN. Had the guy pump up...
Welp, Finally got around to the car again.
I looked at the coil. The issue is that the hole in the block is just a little smaller than a 10m X 1.5 thread tap that I was looking at, after the threads collapsed. If I used the coil from that it is not small enough to let the original 8mm bolt...
Even as the primary it has little to no effect on your credit history having a co-signer. I had the same issue when I turned 18-22 for that matter. It was explained to me, from a loan officer, that because that loan is being secured (co-signed) by a seperate party it really has no effect on your...
An easier way, but possibly a less reasonable, way to build credit very quickly is to take $250 cash and take it to a bank. Ask for a secured credit card. They will take your $250 dollars and hold it. They will issue you a $250 max limit credit card.Use the credit card for every single thing...
Update; Finally had my uncle come over and take a look at it. He said that he thought that in the areas of lack of power it was do to too much air being sucked in A/F ratio being screwed and the vehicle running lean.Keeping in mind that the engine has been smoked 3x now. I would assume...
How blind of me. You are completely correct. I retract the statement I made about not criticizing a man during one of the happiest times in his life. ON A FORUM. I have seen the light.By the way, I do not have a problem with you placing your faith before my feelings. That is commendable. I...
Need some options...Did the head gasket on the girlfriends 97 Eagle Talon, NT 420a engine.
Reassembled most of the fun stuff. Tried to slap the timing belt tensioner back on and the lower bolt will tighten just fine. The upper bolt hole, however, looks like it has no threads left in it...
Issue update;I have been driving the car fairly regularly. I figure I will just drive it until what ever the issue is breaks or gets worse so it is easier to identify it. :DNow, under normal driving ( not beating on it or anything ) In that 3k-4.5k rpm range that seems to accelerate...
Its a possibility that you have old / thin brake fluid or an air bubble in the line.
Usually if it is due to old (boiling) fluid it happens more as the fluid warms up.Also possible to have a blown seal in the master cylinder or a blown diaphram or vacuum leak in the brake boost lines...
You received an impact on one side that was hard enought to bow out the other side?
Are you certain that the frame was not bent? WTF If that is the case, body work is your last concern...
Are there any speed shops left in the cities?
I used to frequent M&H until they closed their doors a month or so ago...
Anyone have any good things to say about local part stores for performance gear?
+1Customization should be embraced and not discouraged.
Whether the person is doing it for looks or speed it doesnt matter and is done for personal tastes.I personally think that it is ridiculous to gut the entire interior of a car just to say that you can go a little faster Personal...
Used it on my exhuast manifold when I replaced it. Used aircraft cleaner to prep it after doing a 300 grit rough up, 5 coats of VHT and >500 miles later it was baked off... Maybe it was user error... Just my personal experiance...
Smoked a dowel pin between the block and head when removing head for resurface. What is a good way to get the block side of the dowel out? Killed 2 screw drivers so far... =P
I read about that, but that would not explain the high end wall...
At about 4.5K it's like it hits a brick wall, you have to stand on the pedal to get it past 70mph and it takes probably 1/4 mile to get there from 60mph...
I bought the car with the issue, so I have had it for about 3 months same issue.
The old owner, I'm not sure, I picked it up from an impound auction...Coil pack is not the answer.I have used 3 seperate units so far. Mine, The girlfriends, and a brand spanking new one... All the same...
Lets change the question here a little bit, as I do not beleive that this is an engine related issue anymore. While in neutral, I can rev all the way up and down the tach with no bog, spudder, shutter or hiccup. While in drive there is nothing by way of power. So, thinking from a drive...
Another fun peice of advise is to make SURE you have a source for the camshaft sprocket removal tool. I assumed that my local auto parts store would have one. Long story short I ended up having to wait 3 weeks from mitsu to get something that worked...I know some people have stated that you...
I would have to agree. It sounds more like an exhaust manifold leak spraying oil.Best case senario torque down the nuts on the exhaust manifold a little more.
Worst case senario; replace the exhaust manifold ( assuming there is a crack in it ).Either way, I would plan to replace the...
Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but is the procedure for a 420a the same?
And are the voltages that I am looking for the same? The haynes manual is a POS when it comes to the camshaft sensor.Probe results;Terminal One; 11.56 volts
Terminal Two; Continuity checkout...
Just a thought here...What if instead of removing the AC, it could be repurposed? What if instead of removing all the lines and such, they were rerouted to work in conjunction with the IC air ducts and/Air Intake ducts to cool the temperature of the air entering the manifold?I was...
Just wanted to say hello to all the DSM'ers out there.Little introduction;I bought my first POS 97 Eagle Talon about 3 months ago and have yet to get it running correctly. N/T Auto Transmission. I am a backyard mechanic as a hobby and nothing else.By day I am an Electrical...
