  1. Clutch grinds when downshifting

A 1g DSM with a 2nd gear grind? UNPOSSIBLE!!In all seriousness though, it's most likely you're syncros. Every stock 1g in the world will eventually have problems with those damn 2nd gear syncros. Just something about them. Send it to Sheps!
  2. how to make your own data logger cable

Okay, fixed the wire, and it must've been broken the whole time. It works great now and I'm an idiot :-D Thanks for the help anyway guys.
  3. how to make your own data logger cable

I don't mind taking a picture, but my brother's two years into electrical engineering so if he wired a diode backwards he will never live it down. While I dig up my camera and the like, is it common for 1990s to not accept these kinds of cables?EDIT: I JUST took it apart to find a broken...
  4. how to make your own data logger cable

I made the cable myself, it's perfect, quadruple checked. The hotsync cable is new too, and worked fine with my computer. And I have one of the recommended palms, can't remember the name off the top of my head. And I don't mind building a cable so long as it WORKS.
  5. how to make your own data logger cable

Don't need USB. This is for a palm, and the standard cheapo 3 wire doesn't work on my 90 (of course).
  6. how to make your own data logger cable

Sorry I'm being a HUGE jerk and bringing a 5 year old post back from the dead, but there's relevant information to my question here.I have a 1990 TSI and the simple cable doesn't work. Should I try making the harder one? And will it work with my palm pilot?
  7. stainless steel brake lines leaking

Yeah the bottom - it's like its bypassing the tube and leaking out the side. I don't know how to describe it I've never seen this before.
  8. stainless steel brake lines leaking

Hcaruso - my thoughts exactly. Called RRE and no one can help me today :-/slugo -- wat?
  11. stainless steel brake lines leaking

I just installed SS lines up front on my car to swap to big brakes up front, and after tightening them down, on both sides I have a leak on the first SS line. It's coming out right after the lines connect to the hard lines. Bad flare? This is literally the last thing keeping my car on blocks...

  15. tie rod end stuck

So should I just torch the axle side? And let the boot bubble a bit?
  16. tie rod end stuck

Yeah the end links that attach to the axles. They desperately need to be replaced due to the pickle fork that didn't work SHREDDING the boot. Shreeeeeedding it. :(
  17. tie rod end stuck

I just put pb blaster on and I started to torch the side and the boot was starting to bubble so I stopped. Where should I torch?

  19. which wideband

Thanks for the thorough explanation of the issue. I JUST bought a UEGO too. Oh well, I can always switch when DSMlink rolls around. Any idea what the resistance IS at the ECU? Because I'm POSITIVE there's a way to modify the signal sent to the ECU to prevent me from buying another wideband...
  20. subwoofer question

I'm not even going to say anything on that jeep:rolleyes:I don't know if it's worth buying, but there's no reason for a 200 watt amp to NOT work with a 200 watt sub. Good luck getting things bumping!
  21. which wideband

What are the problems with UEGO and DSMlink? All I read was people complaining without reason. Or I'm blind.
  22. is it ok to clean valve cover with simple green?

Just mind the gaskets - simple green and RTV don't like to get along, I usually use it to clean gasket mating surfaces.I always like superclean. Dilute it like 6 water - 1 superclean in a spray bottle for the best cleaning solution ever.
  23. Should i Re-Wire my fuel pump?

If your stock car is losing power you have other issues to attend to than putting a bigger wire to the fuel pump.
  24. Can't go into first gear at all

Well it has popped out of first after an upshift a few times before. Maybe sitting dry for a month while I waited on parts (ugh) finally killed my shift fork somehow? Sounds like a 1-2 shift fork. But I have an awful whine coming from a fully filled transmission - not sure what to make of...
  25. Can't go into first gear at all

But I can go into any other gear. I can start the car in 2nd and it shifts through all the others fine.Clutch pedal is adjusted How do you adjust the shift cable at the transmission? I was unaware that was possible. Even so, i put the car in first manually at the transmission and it popped...
  26. Can't go into first gear at all

Title says it all. I JUST put a new clutch in and changed the fluids and that's the only change I've made at all. First gear worked before this.I can't put it into gear when it's rolling either.I also tried putting it into gear manually (with the cable detached from the shifter, under...
  27. 2g brakes on a 1g question

I've done some digging and I haven't been able to find this.I saw a guy who got a brake line from napa or something to fit banjo bolt brakes on a 1g without getting the RRE kit. I'm getting the RRE kit later but right now I need my car going forward. Anyone know what brake lines will work...

So here's the deal. I got the boot off and took a look. This is the OUTER DRIVER'S SIDE, the one with the intermediate shaft that bolts onto the block.I looked in and I see the steel balls and all that, but I don't see a clip or any way for it to come off.

  44. Outer Driver's side CV Boot Replacement

So my driver's (left) side front CV joint decided to blow the outer boot. It's a recent tear and there's VERY little debris in there so I was planning on just replacing the boot. The problem is, I don't have the foggiest how to take off the outer CV. anyone have any ideas (preferably with...

Indeed it does. I have to get a new O2 sensor now since the idiot who owned the car before me overtorqued it and raped the threads. Need to get a tap and a wideband I guess. C'est la vie.
