I bought a 98 gsx BlackBox set up a few weeks ago for my 97 tsi. I am getting ready to start the process of installing, logging, tuning. But I had a question, when I go to" http://ceddy.us/h8-ecu-wiki/roms-ecuflash-defs/ " to download ROM's & DEF, it has two different sets? 20560008 and 20560010. What is the difference, I am assuming that the 20560010 is for use with speed density? Or am I not understanding correctly?

If you're using ceddy mods neither of those will make a difference. They're both stock ROMs for the 98 ECU. You'll be ussing the 20550011 Ceddy rom which is universal for 98/99 year. Just make sure you choose which ROM you're using based on MAF, SD, big maps, etc as they're all labeled 20550011. You can also check which ROM you're using, if you're unsure, by opening the ceddy mod option bits in Ecuflash.

Ok, this is what most Threads or Post have said. I was just confused because here, http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-get-a-basic-tune-with-ecuflash.407715/ . The OP says to install 2055011, then also to install the ROM and XML files for your vehicle, and that's were all options of year, fwd, awd, came into play. And for a 1998 gsx, which is the blackbox I have, there are two different ROM'S 20560008 and 20560010.

Hey where you ever able to download the 2055011 rom? I cant seem to open it, and I cant download the def. How did u do it?

Ive come across 1 or 2 roms for ecuflash that have bad hex files... i had to try and run and see where the hex error was and edit it manually to fix it....

May not be your issue but if its an error of some kind its a place to look

Your trying to read your stock tune?

Whats your goals with ceddymods? Im trying to jog my memory on how it works, as I use ecuflash now. It shouldnt be to hard, im not a computer person and I was able to download and use ecoscan/ceddymods and tune my first talon fairly well. Granted I did fry one black box ecu, stupid mistake.

Im not sure you need to download your tune or have any need for a stock tune rom at all, that might be your problem. Just add in new parameters on the rom drop down boxs then flash it to your ecu. If you want to go back, just change the parameters back and reflash.

Never tough of it that way. Thanks for the reply. It's the first time tunning and my head is all over the place.

I completely understand :)

Whats your mod list? Turbo and injectors? Do you also have evoscan and wideband?

Ceddymods works really well, you will get the hang of it after a few flashes. If I recall, once you have the 20550011 mod rom. Thats all you should need to get started, that is a stock rom for 98 and 99. You then make changes, like injector settings to that 20550011 rom itself on your pc, then flash that rom to your ecu. Then your ecu is now reading that new rom settings.

Chiming in so I can follow this thread. Very helpful. I’m gonna attempt ECUFlash since ecmlink is down for the count until further notice. The threads out there can be sparse and confusing. Here’s hoping it goes well!

One request: how are y’all bricking your ECUs? Any way to avoid this?

The best way to avoid it is to read as much "how to" on using ceddymods, watch all the videos, and then ask questions if your not sure. Also, if you see any spare blackbox ecus for sale for 100 or under, buy an extra :), if you think about it, thats such a good price for what you can do with one.

I bricked one blackbox becuase I was dickin around with turning off all my emission codes, and I didnt follow the directions. To turn off all the emission type codes in the 20550011 mod rom, you need to go under the "Periphery" settings and change them.

Here is a good link to that:

How are you doing Tony818? Have you gotten any further on figuring it out?

From your picture, it looks like your close. On the left hand side, under "open ROM documents" it looks like you have the 20550011-mod-1v9cb rom you need. So you would click it, then make changes to that rom, then flash that to your car.

Well I havnt tried it yet cus Im at work but I'm excited to go and try it now. As for mods I'm basically still stock the only thing I have done is a 2.3 stroke build and the awd conversion on my spyder. Besides that all I have is a 3 inch downpipe and cat. So if I'm not mistaken I can only flash with ecuflash and if I want to see what's going on with the ecu tune I have to look at evoscan correct?

I guess the confusing part is all the scattered information about using it with different windows ( like windows 7, 8 and 10) and different ecuflash download version that there used to be, and evoscan version like 2.7 2.8 2.9. It looks like some versions have already been updated to the point you no longer require to do the step by step you see in threads and some evoscan options are better at dtc reading than the newer versions but for a newbie at this that has never seen this before it's hard to peice it all. I think we need a 2018 updated step by step thread on how to install and use all of this for the future dsmers that will decide to go down this path.

Correct. Ecuflash/ceddymods is for changing your tune, not observing real time data. You will need evoscan and ALSO a wideband to observe real time data. If you follow the tune guides, they are real close to what you need. For example injector settings. Just make the changes that the guild says, i believe you will need to change 3 different injector settings, something like latency, firing, and duration then plug in the maft smothings that the guild says.

It would be nice if someone would do an up to date how to, I have no idea on the windows 8,9,10 stuff. You should make it:)

Lo I was gonna ask you to do it. Haha well ima study up on it but I'll be picking your brain too before I decide to post up a how to video
