Ok so I just got a 98 gsx ready for upgrades, turbo route... in the past I bought a turbo kit for my wrangler but decided not to put it on, it came with a t3t4 "Hybrid" , I also have a 16g, which one would be better?
Turbo info..
(1) Hybrid Turbo Charger:
* .57 compressor wheel trim mapped for low & high boost setups
* Oil fitting gaskets & mounting studs included
* Capable of producing over 400 horsepower
* Wet float bearings & properly balanced
* 3" inlet diameter with a 2" outlet
* .50 A/R compressor housing
* .63 A/R turbine housing
* 1/8 NPT oil inlet
* T3/T4 hybrid

not really looking for crazy stupid power but want to have fun! not sure whether I just put the 16g on when its time or throw the jeep turbo on her?

Ok thanks D1, thats another good point I wanna stay kinda close to stock.

First off set up your profile so we know what you have. Without knowing what is done to the car it's hard to say what turbo to go with. With that said im going to assume your car is close to factory, go with the 16g if you feel the need to upgrade the turbo already. Stay running stock boost level until you get some supporting mods to up the boost. That t3/t4 is not fun at stock boost levels, that is coming from personal experience, lots of lag with out much payoff at low boost. If you haven't already, look up the upgrade path for these cars and follow it. You will get the best bang for your buck. Usually turbo upgrade is not the first upgrade you want to do. Have fun and good luck.

Thanks gdb, ok heres a list and Ill update my garage, none installed yet but I have, walbro 255 lph, injectors 550cc, full 3" exhaust, adjustable fpr, manual boost controller, new head, arp studs, 1g bov, new air intake.

Looks like your off to a good start. If you haven't already I highly recommend you do all of your maintenance before you start to upgrade. Especially the timing belt. On these cars they need to be done every 65k miles. Last thing you want is to put a bunch of money into go fast bits and have a timing belt break and watch your pistons eat the head.

Also once you start upgrading injectors you will need something to manage the extra fuel. Most of us use dsm link for tuning. Sadly they are not currently selling new packages due to a issue with getting chips. But you can find used DSM link on the forums or wait until ecm tuning gets their issue resolved. Sounds like they should be back up and running early next year.

They other things you will need for tuning is a wide band (air fuel ratio) gauge and a boost gauge. With out these two gauges you will be tuning blind and again run a risk of damage to your engine.

And lastly set your self a horse power goal. This will be the number one factor when deciding what parts to get. Bigger is not always better. Pick a target goal and build around that, use these forums and do your home work. These cars can be a lot of fun but if you have mixed matches parts you will be throwing away a lot of money and be disappointed with the out come. 350 hp in a dsm on the street is a super fun car and following the right path can be done for a reasonable price.

That sounds incredibly generic and painfully offshore/Chinese. You definitely want the 16G over this crap...unless the 16G is Chinese too.

If you still have the stock ECU in your car, you can tune it with just a cable. In some ways it's better than ECMLink but it's not quite as fully featured since you're still running the stock ECU code, but you can better tune for new injectors and all that. The Tactrix 2.0 cable is under $200 and I think the ECUFlash software was free. That's how I have been tuning my 98 GSX.

For the record, I echo Justin's opinion that the T3/T4 should be scrapped. I don't know if any genuine T3/T4s exist thanks to the Honda crowd keeping the Chinese companies in business. They all seem to be ebay crap, but beyond reliability issues, the large compressor wheel/small turbine combination is designed for high pressure ratios that make it better suited to smaller engines that don't flow well. The 4G63 doesn't need high pressure ratios to make pretty serious power so the T3/T4 isn't a great match for our engine anyway.

What the best turbo for funny ? and simple
