Hey guys,

New here and excited to be the new owner of a '95 Eclipse GSX 5-speed that I bought about a week ago. Current mods I'm aware of (going off a list provided so please excuse any "improper dsm lingo")

- Ported stock exhaust manifold
- 3 inch downpipe
- cat-back exhaust
- "big" 16g turbo
- FP1 cams
- 680cc injectors (brand not specified)
- DSM link chip
- manual boost controller
- currently running about 18-19psi on E85

I've always been a big fan of these cars and I just couldn't pass the deal up when I saw the car and made my offer. I am a TRUE noob to DSMs aside from general knowledge of cars. This is a toy I bought that I plan on building to handle about 500-600whp. Happy to be a member and looking forward to eating some unsuspecting cocky muscle car owners! Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

welcome to the site. Did you get a cable for the dsmlink/ecmlink? And do you know what version it is?

I assume this is the cord? Runs up under dash on driver side. As for the version I was not provided that info but I don't think it would be too hard to get from the previous owner assuming he knows. If I could somehow plug it in and find out that way then let me know.

Maintenance 1st and foremost, then think about dining..

Absolutely sir! I've changed the oil and coolant and I am in the process of changing the other fluids and looking over everything else.

After speaking with previous owner he is actually a member on here and it is Version 2

Those are all fine and dandy, but do you know when the last time the timing belt was changed?

As well as balance shaft belt.

He was pretty good about keeping up with the maintenance on the car and the timing belt is relatively new. How often should I change both the timing belt as well as the balance shaft belt?

Well it's good you got the cable. It's literally almost impossible to replace it. Don't ever lose it, and if it breaks don't throw it out. Ecmlink will not sell replacements, so if it breaks you will need to send it to them. Just an fyi.

I disagree if you personally didn't do it then you should replace them never trust anyone. Also a timing belt job does more then just new belts.

Noted! And working for a dealer I get a pretty hefty discount on parts/labor so I'd like to get the parts through work. Is there just a couple aside from the belt? Or quite a few?

Looks like a nice little car. Next on the list would be some suspension work and nicer wheels :)

Thank you! Yours looks very nice as well especially the wheels. I'm guessing next on your list may be a paint job? I definitely plan on putting some nicer looking wheels on and some coilovers in the future. Though for the time being I actually think that these wheels and stock stance add to the ricey/sleeper status and people thinking "less" of the car haha. And every DSM owner LOVES surprising people.

Very good to know lasershark thank you. Is there a way for me to upgrade it to V3?

You wanna do the tensioner and waterpump also. Try and get OEM if possible. I'm sure some people who are smarter may have more advise. My biggest thing is I trust no one when buying a car assume everything is a lie until you know otherwise. "Timeing belt just done" "fresh motor only 10k" ect. Your the most trustworthy mechanic you'll ever know. Also take NO short cuts to save money. You can't have reliable fast and cheap pick two.(forgot who said that once but oh so true)

Couldn't agree more.

Thanks buddy! I don't hate on anyone for having a less powerful car it's all about what you like! And yours definitely looks better than mine I assure you.

Go on ecmlink website yes you can upgrade

Thank you sir! Pretty self explanatory when I get on the website I assume? Any info on what will have to be done with the tune after I do the update/upgrade?

Noted! I will get on replacing those. The trans took a crap on me a few weeks ago so the car will be sitting for a while. Thinking I'm going to have Jack's Transmission do their ultimate synchro build unless I hear of something that is a better bang for the buck. That is definitely very sound logic on the fast reliable and cheap saying, although that would be awesome if you could have all three!
