This came up elsewhere in a thread I was in...
The question: Does Injector Dynamics use gasoline as the testing fluid for their injectors or do they use some other fluid for the testing?
Idk.....
Well, being that there wasn't a definitive answer, -->I was on f***ing Google asking that SOB tons of questions and getting nowhere... <-- I got annoyed and decided to ask the men (and women?) over at Injector Dynamics themselves.
All parties involved are correct and wrong at the same time. (Wish my buddy had an account on here...
I E-mailed back and forth briefly with Mitch Mixon who replied faster than I thought he was going to each time.
The answer(s):
Injector Dynamics uses "a fluid that has the same specific gravity as gasoline. It doesn't make sense to test on a fluid that is different than gasoline since that's not what you use in your engine!"
EXACTLY! But wait... This was not the same information I was given when I called and asked pretty much the same question years ago... Wtf?
Was I lied to? Did I misinterpret something? Did they change something?
Idkk.....
I addressed this in another e-mail and Mitch Mixon got back to me, again, fast as sh*t.
I asked: "Is there a name for the fluid please (technical or not)? that I can have when I report back to the forums."
In one e-mail. Then forgot the main question (just got done with a 7/8 hour overnight shift with no sleep), so I sent another e-mail... and also asked:
"Also, I called 3.5-4 years ago and it was to my understanding you used actual gasoline. Was there a change? Or no, you guys at ID have never used gasoline?"
The answers: "I'm afraid we can't disclose what we use, but at one point we actually did use race fuel for our test bench. It's not safest thing in the world and we did end up switching over to a custom fluid because of that."
And: "Yeah we did, and we switched."
So, few things.
--One --> Little bummed they don't use gasoline as the actual testing fluid for the injectors. I was so sure they still used it, but I was wrong. However, I do have pretty good faith that whatever fluid they cooked up, it's pretty farken close.... I've read their articles, seen their posts, and have now dealt with them a few times (three), and every time I have gotten honest and legit info (as you should, am I right? Well, sadly, it doesn't always happen that way).
--Two, the obvious --> Kind of wish they WOULD divulge the specifics of the fluid they are using (and I GUESS in a way they did, but it really wasn't enough to satisfy me). I mean, they pretty much have full disclosure on everything else and have been carrying themselves as having "nothing to hide." But on this, they hold out... What a crock... Uuggghhh.. But, I guess I can understand..
--And Three... --> I think it's safe to infer either A) something happened that warranted the switch. or B) I can't blame them for just putting safety first for the employee(s) doing the testing BEFORE something happened. ESPECIALLY if they researched and tested other fluids to use, or developed an in-house fluid themselves to use.
Sorry for the lengthy post. I tried to make it kinda neat to keep you reading. Not very good at that whole thing. But the more you know now....
Again, didn't see this information anywhere else on the net - Now it's on Tuners.
And in closing, thanks again --> Mitch from Injector Dynamics.
Edit: Will post e-mails when I wake up. Too tired right now from work. Will remove this edit when the deed is done...
