WHY are 1G's better than 2G's????

I’ve had both, and worked on probably 100 dsm’s, the build quality is much better on the 1g’s. Body, suspension, trans internals, stock engine, stock turbo, all better.

Also the 2g rear end is only attached to the car with 3 bolts. They’ll shoot out the back of the car with a good launch.

We are in the same boat, though I doubt I've hit triple digits on DSMs alone. Just not many DSMers in my area. I've literally had a wheel fall off on a 1g too. Replaced broken door handles in 1gs. Yeah its not as much of a problem. But I've never broken a door handle on my 2gs either.

I am not saying 1gs are worse. I've Had 2 91 TSi AWDs, a 94 TSI AWD, and a 91 GS, as well as 3 GSTs. No bias here. Well maybe a bias towards talons. I swapped one of my 2gs to a talon, and the GS had a talon wing. steering wheel, tails, and door sill plates. But IMO they both have pretty low build quality and the only one I ever broke a trans in was a 1st gen. Syncros suck in 2g fwd trans tho.

2g sound system is better. 2g stock wheels are better looking, 2gb spoilers are better looking, and you don't feel like you are going to die if anything touches you in a 2g.

Care to elaborate??? I have never felt like I was going to die in a 1G despite pushing the time/space continuum several times.. I do die laughing however, when I see a 2G lumber on by.. :D:sneaky:
It is small and a greenhouse. Sound deadening doesn't seem as good, and feels like it was built in the 80's. That's not a good thing.
 
The 1g came with a more rigid chassis and shared most of the good bits from the GVR-4, which was designed (at least with the intentions) to compete in the FIA WRC:

That isn't to say whatever advantage the 1g has over a 2g in stock form can't be neutralized with mods - or vice versa, but it's one reason why the block is so stout and the chassis is rigid. The 2g does have the front suspension design some people feel is superior, though that design also creates wheel width and ride height limitations. The 1g has a very similar front suspension design as the later Evos, which we all know handle pretty damn good.

For me, the 1g represents what's cool about these cars without drumming up visions of the F&F stigma. I still really like the 2g, but the 1g has always been more of a sleeper with a sporty design. And you can't forget about the GVR-4 being the ultimate sleeper in the family.

If 6 bolts are soooo superior why doesn't any evolution come 6 bolt? Wow the 6 can hold more hp stock but honestly who stays stock internals at 400 plus. I Love every single dsm no matter the year. I can't even believe this stupid post got to 2 pages.

If 6 bolts are soooo superior why doesn't any evolution come 6 bolt? Wow the 6 can hold more hp stock but honestly who stays stock internals at 400 plus. I Love every single dsm no matter the year. I can't even believe this stupid post got to 2 pages.

Whoa there hoss, you need to calm down.. This thread was meant as a lighthearted debate between family members, thus all of the sarcastic responses ect, you are the 1st person to get all bent out of shape and actually think it was some kind of 1G vs 2G war.. Apologies if you were offended somehow by the good natured bantering, this thread is nothing but love and is meant as a tribute to the DSM platform..

1g drivers cockpit interior is awesome. Fighter jet styling, boost gauge, buttons with performance red outlines(Doug loved it), flip up light switch is like hitting the missle laucher, slanted ass vents, etc. Car is designed for the driver only. The passenger seat is only there for giving joyrides, back seats are useless, only reason they are there was as a sales feature.

The 2g cockpit is generic. Just like any other car.

2g cockpit is wrapped around the driver and doesn't look like it was cut from a block of wood.

Compare it to an evo or sti cockpit. 2g is much more driver focused and sports car like.
