hey guys, so an issue I’m having with my 2g is that at random It will shut off. Completely at random, sometimes at idle, in any gear, at any speed. It will take a few tries to get it started back up. So originally I thought it was the battery connections. That didn’t work. So I changed all of the following out.
Fuel filter
Fuel pump
Fuel pump relays
Coil pack and plugs
Plug wires
Extra grounds.
Right now the more I read it’s sounding like it may be the TPS.
I already have it ordered it should be in any day now. I just want some extra opinions on what it may be if that ends up not being the solution.

What type of 2G is it. (this should be listed in every thread or in your profile)

What makes not think it's not the ECU?
It’s a 97 2.0l non turbo. And I have an extra ecu that I haven’t put it yet that I got from the previous owner who switched it out for the one in there now because the same issue was happening to him.

Whelp. TPS was a no go. Going down the sensor list I’m going to try the MAP sensor and the crankshaft sensor and hope that works.

Throwing parts is not a good way to diagnose. Dead shutoff at speed has to be electrical.
Well the way I see it, I’m diagnosing while replacing these parts. Even if it doesn’t work at least I’m getting new parts that I’ll probably need down the road.

Still at a loss. Any ideas?

I would have started with the crank/cam sensors. The TPS or MAP sensors will not cause the car to die. Check your wiring for cuts or melted areas. Especially around the EGR tube.

When the car is idling wiggle as many wires are you can to try and get the car to shut off.

I have seen bad ECUs cause random stalling like this before.

Okay so update. The engine code for the check engine light is P0355 “Ignition coil 1/secondary circuit malfunction”. Could This be the issue with the intermittent stalling? I’ve changed the coil pack once before and the one I switched with caused a misfire somewhere and it was running like a lawnmower but still stalling. I have another one that I’ve yet to put on. Does it sound like a coil pack issue. Plug issue or wiring issue?

secondary coil resistance
standard value: 11.5K - 13.5K ohms

Change your crank sensor. It's on the back of the motor. I had the same/ similar issue and it plagued me for over a month then I changed my crank sensor and the issues were gone.

Have you checked the ASD relay?

are you sure it was P0355 and not P0335.

because P0355 isn't listed in any of the service manuals. The ecu doesn't have any way of monitoring induced voltage in the secondary. So i think you should pull the codes again.

it would make way more sense if you were getting a P0335 : No crank reference signal at PCM

It very well could be, I could have them mixed up. I will check first thing tomorrow

I also have a post on the same issue with still no fix. Every sensor has been changed. I replaced the crank sensor again and that did nothing. I lose the rpms and speedo gauges when it stalls but lights and radio are still on. If I push in the clutch and cycle the key off and back on it will usually come back to life. I might look for an ecm again....

any update on this? Mine seems to stall on me sometimes when I clutch in approaching stop signs. I've started blipping the throttle after clutching and that seems to be working for now but I'm curious what's causing it. I don't want to throw parts at it but I doubt it would do it if I had a mechanic in the car with me.

I am also having this issue of the car rolling to a stop it wants to die but giving it a small push on the gas keeps it idling and running any idea's what it could be
