New to DSM and new to the forums. I know this topic has been beaten to death but I have seen different results within the forums.

I just bought a 1998 GST. It has a FMIC, Intake, and E3 16G. Around 4500-5000 RPM it sputters. Ive tried replacing plugs. I installed the NGK BPR7ES at .028 gap. Previous owner says wastegate is set to 10PSI. My narrowband is pretty inconsistent. Also on stock fuel system. Is the 16G turbo to much for the stock fuel system? If so what would be a good size turbo to run for the stock fuel system?

Thanks

I would say there is a good chance you are running out of fuel. My old 1g ran out of fuel very quickly with similar mods and a 14b. Get a new Walbro 255 and rewire it while you're in there.

I ran my 16G back in the day on stock 450cc injectors up to 18psi (might have been 20 with an fmic, I forget), wasn't running out of fuel. Just sharing that data point. I suspect you have an issue going on, perhaps dying coils, bad ptu, arcing/failing plug wire(s), fuel pressure regulator not working (is it connected via vacuum, base set correctly, and will it rise with pressure 1:1?), or a stupidly bad boost leak.

Spark issue is a minor stutter, fuel cut is like the engine shutting off for a second

You need to get a boost gauge to verify the pressure you are running at

There are all sorts of variables, a fuel cut is the mass air flow sensor telling the ECU there is too much air flow for the fuel system to adjust to, and the ECU adjusting and telling the injectors to stop firing to be safe

So typically a 2g ecu untuned will only allow about 17psi or so before cutting fuel

The other side of that spectrum is that if you have a boost leak that only holds 10psi, your mass air flow sensor still sees the suck through air value of your turbo trying to Max out air flow while you see boost gauge readings of 10psi. When I've had that problem the car just drinks gasoline and is utterly ball less

What is the ptu? Sorry, just not familiar. Ive looked it up but I dont come up with anything.

Thank you. I see a genuine one on ebay from a car that had under 40k on it. Looks good and only $65. Or should I go new from rock auto for $100? It would not be genuine.

Just an update. I am not having any luck. In fact it’s gotten worse. I’ve replaced my ignition coils and now the car won’t start. I even put stock coils back on and still nothing. The car won’t even turn over. Any ideas?
