Boostin's Red Demon runs 7.04@204mph, but is it a DSM?

I agree with you guys, he uses a 4g63t block with a 4g63 head, he uses the STOCK rear subframe, uses the oem transmission case, a modified x case and rear, in a 95 eagle talon tsi chassis, I believe that all makes it a DSM, it doesnt change because he used 50grand worth of forged and fabed parts to make it the best at what he wanted it to do.
so I take it from that guys post, the moment anyone changes the air box for a ebay intake their DSM isn't a DSM any more
It has a tube subframe and a 3kgt rear end. But anyone can use those parts which are available

So if i ls swap a foxbody is it no longer a foxbody? If i 2j swap a 240 is it no longer a 240 like come on its not a glass shell put on a tube frame and even that iv seen guys build pre runners out of a tube frame and a glass shell and call it an old square body and no one bitches about that.

still, the 3kgt rear is a STOCK housing rear, the guy that posted the bs is a douche and should be banned from all dsm forums
My first reaction would be to agree with you there, but I stand by my previous statement - it's fine to disagree and debate. That's something society has completely forgotten how to do effectively. The key is doing it in a civil and constructive way without getting pissy and calling people names because they challenge something you're saying. The whole world gets defensive about any sort of challenge or criticism, and every debate turns into a snark contest.

So I say no, don't ban him. Invite him back to try and make a better case for his opinion without getting defensive, and if all else fails, just agree to disagree and let's go have a f'n beer and get over it. What he doesn't realize is that this is probably the most welcoming DSM community on the planet with any real size to it. If he has a tough time here he's almost certainly going to be leaving plenty of other FB groups he joins too.

Just think of what the car could do with a real drivetrain in it. Not using our puny transfer case gears. It is most definitely a DSM still.

So he's on a billet block, no biggie. A 3000gt rear diff? So? It's tiny. Using a dogbox? It's just a PPG gearset in a stock case with a 300m output shaft. Tcase? Billet mid housing with a modified stock gearset and 300m shaft upgrade and some additional details. The chassis is still a DSM.

When we finally have a proven stronger tcase gearset, that can handle a season on one tcase instead of a handful of passes, and drivers get their confidence back to actually push real 60 foot times, you will see bottom 1.1 or sub-1.1 60's and you will see 6 second passes at 220+mph.

Devin is killing it and we will see some big stuff this year and next year from a few vendors in our community still pushing to make new and better parts to advance further forward!

That's why I still love this community. DSMs should be dead by now (some people believe that they are). But here we are, with new parts still being introduced, cars still putting down faster times than before, and so many people supporting the efforts.

Meh, you can find one person to support any viewpoint known to man. You can find people who believe the earth is flat or that the holocaust is overblown. Thus, you'll find the one idiot who wants to bash Boostin. And josh is right, the facebook groups are just total trash. A lot of extremely arrogant 25-35yo dudes acting like assholes all day. It's extremely hard to have meaningful conversations on those platforms.

Well said Tim. It's great to see them STILL progressing with the help of a few vendors that are STILL willing to push the envelope, thus paving the way for the rest of us that are still looking to go 10's, 9's, 8's etc. :thumb:

Tim.

What's your opinion on the new Magnus Billet front tcase housing match up with a boostin mid housing?

It will be a very nice durable piece. The front case is nice, I will work on a few soon; just not this second by choice. I think that in conjunction with the Boostin billet mid housing and good shot peened 300m gearset with your choice of a transfer case brace, it will handle 8's easily, and with a stronger gearset it will be better than anything else on the market as a result of several companies bringing great products to the table.

The stock front housing likes to pull the bolts out or split the top of the housing on hard failures, and sometimes it takes out the mounting flange of the stock mid housing. Having a stronger front housing and mid housing are really important for keeping the deflection under control and the gear mesh in good contact zone.

The big thing will be the stronger gearset. Brena made the current batch for Magnus that are hitting the streets finally, and hopefully they stand up to the brutal launches of the 7 second boys to get a solid data set of its durability and its cycle ratio (life cycle until failure vs. replacement before failure); sometimes called a S-N fatigue ratio on things that typically get cycled for long durations. In racing, it is a little bit different but the same concept still.

Ideally, if he can even make 100 passes under power without a failure I would easily say it's a success because that would be around a full season on the part with several races and 7-10 passes per event on average. With several friends getting these gearsets and being used in conjunction with the billet mid housing and magnus billet front housing and a transfer case brace, I am suspecting we will have a nice amount of data to work with on 7-second cars and bottom 8-second cars to see how things go.

Considering that Aaron Gregory, Trevor Holland, Mike Wohler, Devin Schultz, John Wigger, and several others are going to be running them, you have cars that all make 1100-1500AWHP running them. I know Dave Ruby, Kevin Cliver, and I think Mark Leasure and Steve Rocco and Adam St. John are also waiting on them. I'm sure I'm missing a few others I know.
