This sounds dumb, however I can not read the transmission dip stick in my eclipse.

The one in there now has a white plastic handle, and it's connected to a string (like picture hanger wire) with a bobber on the end made out of plastic to measure the level.

No matter what I do it's always soaked

I need to know if my car has the wrong dip stick in it. eBay shows a metal dip stick (exactly what I think should be in there) but I can not find a picture of a factory 2g turbo transmission fluid dip stick

Any help is appreciated

What you have is correct. My GST had the white plastic on the bottom and my gsx has a black plastic bottom. Both same exact style. It's tough to get a reading off of them but you need to clean off all the atf that's stuck in between the raised lettering on the bottom plastic.

I've found it difficult to overfill the tranny, there's an overflow hose right off the dipstick. I dumped a gallon in last time I did a filter change then added another 3 quarts. I think dry capacity is about 7 quarts. I prefer slight overfill than underfill if I'm not sure. But yes the dipsticks on a 2g are terrible especially if you have an aftermarket intake. Make sure the notch in the plastic "collar" at the handle lines up when you insert the stick or you'll read low. I wonder if a similar dipstick would work like using a 1g oil dipstick on a 2g.

Always shift through all the gears and drive the vehicle then re-check. I get surprised by vehicles at the shop that still need another 1.5 - 2 qts after a test drive.

That just confused the crap out of me. I used a 1 gallon jug of valvoline maxlife dexmerc after a filter change. It had 1 gal come out

It has a small trans leak, I believe the input shaft seal as it takes about 60 seconds for the trans to engage any gears

This sounds stupid, but it's red, the bobber is always red.

Honestly mine are always red haha. You're probably fine, if you put about the same in as what came out. Last time I did mine the motor and trans were out of the car and drained completely, but when you're not doing a dry fill it can be tricky. At least you know you're not underfilled. Check it a few more times after you've driven around for a bit.
Please update if you figure out the hesitation issue. I don't think it's related to the leak, I had a small leak from the same seal and never had a problem. I'm curious.
Just some advice, every problem I thought was an a/t trans issue (shifting at the wrong time, hard clunks when put into gears, hesitation) was actually due to misadjusted or bad TPSs on all my cars. The autos rely on that tps to know when to shift. Very minor adjustments fixed my problems. Not saying that's your case, just keep it in mind.

The TPS is adjusted correctly, I was having hell with 2 other throttle bodies I rebuilt so I went to eBay and ordered a complete assembly with pig tails off of a low mileage car. It has paint markings on everything for alignment.

Yeah I have the procedure memorized, .o177 feeler gauge and check pins 3 and 4 for connectivity

It's either the gear selector on the trans side or the pump being slow to build pressure, or the TCM

If the trans is cold I will loose all gears, until I lean on the park lever, basically rock the car against the trans in park, the shifter lever will click, and I'll regain gears, most of the time.

My fix to this has been the remote start, but I'd like to fix it permanently
