Searched but couldn't find any info on here.

I am looking to buy a 97-99 GSX. It will not be my DD but will look to drive it 2-3 days a week. I have seen a few but two in particular caught my eye. I'm looking to make it a nice quick street car, with the occasional trip to the strip, maybe twice a year.

My issue is, I need Air conditioning, I live out in the desert where temps get up to 120 and I would like to know if it would be possible to build the engine up to 350-400 awhp and still have A/C.

Any info would be greatly appreciate and would help in making my determination on whether or not to purchase a GSX.
 
You can have ac at any power level. The main issue is keeping everything cool since the condenser sits in front of the radiator. Combine that with a FMIC and it can be tricky to keep temps down in stop and go traffic. I have working ac in South Florida, but to get temperatures to stay in the 190-210 area was a lot of trail and error.
My setup consists of
Enlarged bumper intake
Ducting
Misimoto rad
Stock ac fan and spal pusher (wired together)
Fan switch to turn them on early
Manifold and turbo blankets
Higher pressure rad cap
Cleaned and fixed fins on all the coolers
Fresh coolant.
 
Thanks for the information, the good thing where I live is there is no traffic. And like I said, I wouldn't be using it every day. There are two GSX's that I am looking at and currently, both have working A/C.
 
You can get that power with a stock-appearing turbo like a 68hta or a bastard 20g. Keeping that sized turbo will let you keep at least one beefy stock fan, if not both.

Joe Wrenches did a 68hta with a big side mount intercooler and was able to run a 10 second quarter mile with AC. Best part about a side mount is that it doesn't block the ac condenser/radiator like a front mount does.

Eliminate the air gap space between the fan shrowd and the radiator, and the condensor and radiator support, and it should be just fine.

Also retaining the heat shields over the manifold and the turbo, and the downpipe is extremely important.

A missing exhaust manifold shield Will generate huge amounts of heat under the hood. Popping the hood after boost will almost burn your face from the heat under there

By eliminating the air gap space, are you referring to ducting the FMIC to the radiator?
 
The factory fans are suppose to suck air through the radiator core, they have a 1 inch air gap between the housing of the fan blade and the radiator core. By using some spare plastic cut to fill the gap you will increase the suction through the radiator core, essentially pulling more cool air through the radiator and increasing the fans effeciency
