GVR-4 Turbo smoke

Hello guys am having a little problem when the car is running there is almost no smoke but when i hit boost and let go the pedal smoke comes out of the exhaust.

Now yesterday by accident i left the oil cap on the valve cover unscrew and when boosting there was no smoke what could it be?

Have you checked the turbo for shaft play? You might have bad turbo seals.

If you left the oil cap loose and the smoke stopped there's absolutely something wrong with your PCV system.

Thats what i tho in the first place and got a rebuild kit. There is almost no shaft play but when i run it with the loose oil cap and the smoke went away got me thinking...

Why not just look at the pcv first? You're applying a solution when you haven't even figured out the problem.

Am asking because the pcv valve is good and is hooked up on the intake manifold. Got a hose on the valve cover to the big hose where the turbo spools i dont know where else to look for. Thats why the only solution i see is the valve cover mod with a catch can... or it could be the pcv port is cover on carbon or dust? uhmmm am gonna check that out and see.

I agree, sounds like a pcv problem, I would check that first.

Well i have a mitsubishi zx is like a galant non-turbo.

I did a swap 4g63t and fwd turbo transmission, MAF translator with 3" gm MAF, 16g small turbo, Galant VR4 ECU and the rest is all stock.

I am running the turbo on wastegate pressure 8psi

Id still suspect pcv. Unless you have some other source of crankcase pressure. Pressure seems to be the problem because you removed it and it went away. Make sure no lines are clogged. Have you done a leakdown test?

I think you should check what the other guys are saying about the PCV valve. It sounds like you are getting some crank pressure and if the PCV valve isn’t working correctly it could cause this problem. You could either test it or replace it and go from there.

I just checked the pcv valve again and is working good. Now the little hose that goes there was loose and it was not sealing properly. I changed for a new hose but i dont know if that will be the problem need to finish some other repairs to test it.

Looks to to small, you need a 3/8” check valve.

Or

You can do a catch can set up depending on funds.

A PCV valve is a check valve...why would you need two in the same line aside from one potentially being a fail-safe for the other?

I wouldn’t dare trust the pcv on these at all. Not even new. I have mine in because of your last sentence, guaranteed fail safe as I don’t have a catch can as of now. I can’t speak for others.

Catch can would be ideal (if funds are available to spare)

Because the pcv valve is known to leak even if new, and people add another valve that doesn't leak.

How did you check the PCV?

Is the spring inside the PCV moving back and forth when pressing the plunger/bearing?

I took the hose and blow air with my mouth it wont pass but if i do the other way it will

Not an adequate test. Minor oil residue can build up and let air pass through at 10psi

Got myself a catch can and for what i can see the problem went away not smoking anymore.

That catch can just bypasses the pcv valve.

If that cured your smoking it's only because your pcv valve was bad
