I talked with TRE and they said that an EVO 8/9 LSD is a 'bolt-on' for the 2g Non-LSD rear diff. So that's what I'll be doing. Just wanted to put this here because I did a bunch of searching through this thread and it gets confusing on who is talking about what.

When I talked to TRE they actually have the LSDs. So I won't have to source one like I thought I would have to. If you wanted the whole diff, I was looking at classifieds on Evo sites. I saw 800 for a good one and 400 for one that needed a rebuild.

I got my Evo 3 diff for 175 shipped from Malaysia. This was just the center section mind you. No housing. No ring gear. Which is fine. That's all I need anyway. The Evo 3 inboards cost 55 bucks shipped also from Malaysia.

On all the Mitsu OEM part sites MN156754 is listed as the Evolution inner axle, prices vary from $320-380. I did find a Mopar site that had MN156754 listed for $140, I ordered one to see if it really is the correct part, I can alway return it if it isn't.

I read this entire thread again today for about the fifth time in the last couple of years. I'm still lost :idontknow:. So, :beatentodeath: here goes. In my manual trans blue 1ga Talon I have a 3 bolt non-LSD rear diff. I want to install an Evo VIII rear diff (minus the housing) with a Weir Performance 12 plate clutch pack that I've had for a year in said 3 bolt non-LSD housing. I also want to order DSS level 5 axles this coming up Black Friday. I will definitely upgrade to factory 4-bolt hub flanges also.

Will the manual 3 bolt non-LSD housing work? If not I do have an auto 1ga 4 bolt LSD parts car, and a manual 1ga 3 bolt LSD project car I could "borrow" from.

Which level 5 DSS axles do I order? I know it will not be as easy as just ordering the DSS 1g rear axles from extreme psi because they will no longer work. The normal upgraded DSS 2g rear axles won't work either because their advertisement says,
"include new hubs to accommodate the larger spline with bolt-on wheel bearings", and also, "Please Note: These axles are for the GSX / TSi AWD with factory LSD Rear ONLY" , or would they?
I would have to custom order them direct from DSS correct? If so, what would I tell them I need exactly? From what I have read, DSS is not super-knowledgeable about the details of all the swapping that is possible. Do you think I could tell DSS I need "DRIVESHAFT SHOP LEVEL 5 1000HP REAR AXLES: MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 90-94 AWD #20813" but in the length of the 2g non-lsd axles? I would guess that I will need to provide more detailed info to DSS. Yes these axles are overkill and a waste of money for my application, don't judge me :D

Is there a website or forum where you found the parts in Malaysia you could share?

OK, I found an entire Evo 8/9 diff/rear end housing for sale.
So, just to clarify, what all do I need to do to run an Evo 8/9 rear diff in a non-LSD DSM?
Any recommendations on maintenance or suggested upgrades for the diff prior to install?

The diff and Evo inboard cups. The Evo diff internals will go right into your non-LSD housing.

So my stock non-LSD rear axles need Evo 8/9 inboard cups?
If so that's another $700 on top of the purchase of a diff...

From what I understand, all the Evo plate style diffs from EvoIII to Evo lX are the same, so you might be able to use EvoIII inboard cups. But do what Black95tsiawd said. Try your axles and then adjust as needed

You mean after all this time no one tried non-LSD 2G cups in EVO diff?

Edit: ever mind, Charles answered it more than once:

"2G non-LSD axles fit Evo diffs perfectly. Neither side 2G LSD axle fits - one side appears to, but the splines are an inch short and get chewed off pretty quickly."

Apparently, this fit isn't quite so perfect, Please read below!

Are the Evo rear axles cups the same for both sides?
I finally pulled my rear diff out and the LSD axle cups are different, but the Evo 2/3 cup pair I bought from Thailand are both the same.
The spare diff I sent to TRE is getting the Evo conversion right now.

Inner cups are identical (at least, for an Evo 8/9).

Looks just like what I got, except much cleaner, and the silver lips look slightly different. The first set of Evo 2/3 cups I bought didn't have that lip at all, but at least I have some spares.

Gonzo, thank you for the correction, looks like Charles might have the same poor fitment that Tim had, but in Charles's case, he is making MUCH less torque, so he hasn't encountered the same problem.

The "silver lip" is just a dust shield, they aren't absolutely necessary, especially if your car isn't a daily driver.

But all non-LSD DSM axles are same size (right/left), it just appears that they are shorter than EVO cups. BTW, I just bought another set of those asian axle cups :) Now, I just have to find EVO8/9 rear end. Does anyone have a lead?
