We landed ourselves an old laptop that's running on Windows7 Professional. Since then I have downloaded the Complete version of CeddyMods from Ceddy.us and ECUflash. Cu-dos to Ceddy for his research!
We also landed a Open Port 2.0 cable, but I think we will still need to get the adapter after reading through a few posts here.

My main question is: Is there a guide or a walk-through of any kind on how to set this program up on my computer and then a step by step instructional on how to program each parameter? Neither one of us have messed with an ECU programmer of any kind, nor have we ever watched someone else use a programmer.

I know there are certain parts of the CeddyMods program that need to be placed into the ECUflash program, I remember reading that on here in the past and I'm sure I'll find it again. Another question: Is there anything else I need to download other than CeddyMod and ECUflash? And: Is there any other equipment I need to add to my arsenal?

There have been a LOT of mods done to this poor car and it is in dire need of a calibration to help it run a little more smoothly, the fact that it's still sitting at a 14:7 - 14:9 AFR is really amazing. However, when we add the larger injectors that it needs, it sits at 9.5:1 and won't attempt to fix itself even after 30 minutes of idling. There are probably 7-10 other things that need attention as well, hence why I'm just asking for a walk-through rather than harassing everyone here to hold my hand through every keystroke... as much as I would love for my hand to be held, I know I won't learn anything that way LOL.

Any help and tips are greatly appreciated at this point. If it has a bolt, we can turn it, but this ECU reprogramming stuff may as well be voodoo to us LOL. I think there's someone on the other end of town with chickens... you know... just in case I need one to perform any rituals....

Thanks a ton! I'm at the part of needing to purchase EvoScan. For some reason groceries got the vote over more car stuff, so it'll have to wait til next payday. I do greatly appreciate your help and will continue reading through once we get EvoScan. That's exactly the sort of detailed walk through I was hoping for.

These helped me a lot when I first learned how to tune my car.

Got in a hurry and wrecked the manual valve inside the valve body. Spending EvoScan funds to get a used valve body for $50. Have to wait another two weeks until I can get EvoScan. :|

Anyone know if EvoScan is still in business? I sent an email on Saturday the 21st and on Tuesday the 24th, but still no reply from them. Trying to buy the software and see what cable(s) I need before placing an order.

Thanks guys. Still waiting on my latest part in the mail & should hopefully have this beast back up & running. Then give her a proper tune and tear up some asphalt again, probably more efficiently.

Got the car back up & running, as best as it can be with stock injectors anyway. The performance valve body we installed has an issue somewhere, we haven't opened it up yet to find the problem, but the stock one works fine so we'r going with it for now. During the past two months I've been sending emails to different companies about programming. Turns out all of them I spoke to either want me to replace my stock ecu with an older one equipped with an eprom or replace the ecu all together with a new one built just for my car. Except for EvoScan, but I can't get a straight answer out of them. One tech says to use a 1.3U and another says to use a 2.0. One will say I can use the software with ECUflash, another will tell me I can't because it's a 1999 non-eprom and sent me links to 3G sites to ask them for help. So, now I'm completely lost, again, maybe still lost LOL. Can anyone set me straight please?

Since you have a 1999 DSM, you have a flashable black box ECU. You need the Tactrix 2.0 Cable with a reflash adapter. I think the 1.3 might work but I use the 2.0. Then all you need is ECUFlash and Evoscan.

An EPROM ECU means that it can support DSMLink. So it depends on what route you want to go. For this route, yes, you will have to source an older EPROM ECU.

You can use only the Tactrix 2.0 on the 98-99 black box ecu for programming and logging activities, the 1.3 is for the newer Evo and 3g ecu's. The only confusion is that you CAN dataglog with the 1.3 on any of the cars, however programming can only happen with the more expensive 2.0 as far as our ecu is concerned. Ecuflash is used to read and make changes with our ecu, Evoscan is the program used to datalog our ecu and Evo ecu thus the name Evoscan (it just so happens to work on our cars also). Evoscan charges a fee for the software, Ecuflash charges the fee to Tactrix and its built into the purchase price of the Tactrix 2.0 dongle.

Thanks guys! I wasn't aware of only being able to use the 2.0 tactrix, that probably saved me one serious headache since I was planning on getting the 1.3U. Unfortunately I don't have about $300 laying around anymore, Christmas kinda does that when you have a kid to spoil, but tax season is right around the corner. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free. I've kinda had my heart set on EvoScan, but I'm still open to suggestions if there's any pros/cons that you want to add about EvoScan or other companies and their products. Thanks to everyone for your time and especially patience to help me out, I do greatly appreciate it.

Man, im confused. Ive got a tactrix2.0 obd2 connector I got with my project car, what software is best

You use Ecuflash to flash or read the ecu, you use Evoscan (you have to pay for it) to datalog with.

ECUflash is a free download and EvoScan is $25. Since you already have the tactrix 2.0, which is $250 by itself, it'll be the cheapest option. You can add on Ceddy Mods for $5 basic, $15 moderate or $25 for the full version (if I remember prices correctly). I have ECUflash and Ceddy Mods downloaded, but no cable so I can't tell you how it works.
