I have blown out engine and trans mounts. Nasty movement, shakes, and vibration especially shifting during "spirited" driving.

I have owned several mitsu's and mounts are a constant problem. My 01 is just a 4 cyl and ends up blowing out the front and rear mounts quick. On this car, I want to change them with poly and never look back. My question is on which kit to go with (the most complete kit), and where the best price to get it is.

I am a tech and have access to the shop on my days off. I will be cutting the oem inserts out of the mounts and pressing in the poly one's.

My issue with the kits I am seeing is that they come with some real inserts (looks like for the trans and upper front engine mounts), and some of the stupid fake ones that install over the ends of the oem mount inserts on the lower front/rear mounts. I want real full insets for all 4 mounts.

Here are example of what I'm seeing available: Notice part of the kit, or all of it, are designed to fit over the stock mounts? looks like bs to me.

This car is a 98 GST, I also have an 01 GS.

Josh, that kit also has halve the inserts that go over the factory style mounts. Im looking for a complete press in kit for all 4 mounts. Haven't had any luck finding one yet.

They dont do 4 push in ones, someone did use 1g units at one point but not sure myself,

Try find some avids or torque solution mounts as they full units and inhave the torque ones, they work well

The front and rear inserts are garbage, I used to use large washers on each side so they don't pop out. About 4 years ago I filled my OEM torn mounts with loctite premium 3x polyurethane ($5/tube at HD, enough for all 4 mounts) or you can go with window weld if you want em black but costs a bit more. Never looked back and they're holding up great.
Fwd will always tear through rubber roll stops.

Exactly what I thought. I can tell by looking at the kits that the inserts are a bad idea. Still searching for a good full press-fit set.

I decided to go with the prothane kit and two replacement mounts to add the inserts to. The Trans and upper mount will be removed and the new poly bushings pressed in, the front and rear mount are going to be cheap new mounts because I could never just add inserts to blown mounts, and then install them with the inserts. This should make for a good setup for now. The car is in desperate need of new mounts. I think even cheap mounts with the insets should hold up good. I'm on a budget because there is a lot to fix on this $500 car.

I have the one @josh408 posted. 2 full replace and 2 insert style. The insert style are garbage looking but once mine are in the mounts and bolt up they are decent. The rear is tight given what it is (much better than stock) but the front one is loose....but it may be the bolt and not the rubber in the mount.

On 2 dsm's now I have found the front mount's main collar in the front mount it way bigger than the bolt that's in there. Clearly making it super sloppy. Even if you replaced it with a solid aluminum insert that bolt would still be super loose. I drilled out that hole in the bracket that mounts to the frame and replace the bolt with one that is properly sized to the collar in the actual rubber mount. Is the stock front mount always like this? I dunno but it was on 2 of my 2g's now so maybe have a look.

I have a picture of the bolt in the stock mount that came off a completely stock 2G car (as far as I could tell/see anyways). So I think it's like this from factory?

Anyone know if all 2g's have that undersized bolt in the front mount making it looseAF?

Its an m10 bolt, but the bust is m12 sized i believe, not sure why, i gather its to make it easier to slide in

So you've seen it too hey? Must be like that stock then. So so dumb. Makes that shiiit so sloppy in the front. I drilled it out to M12 then i guess. Either way once the bolt was properly sized it made the front way tighter.

Anyway, food for thought.

Yeah some use an insert to go down to a 10mm or some drill the outside to 12mm, either way works well

Great to know! I just got my new mounts and the poly kit. I noticed the front mount definitely has a larger collar. I will plan to drill out the bracket to match. I doubt anyone knows, but what is the bolt specs that will be necessary? I wont be pulling my old mounts out until I have the time, and I'd rather have everything ready so I don't have to run around during the job. 12mm sounds right, what about length, thread pitch, etc. Based on what PlanZero said, I will also add large washers on the sides to keep the inserts true.

I just used a old DSM bolt that was the same pitch and size as the other motor mounts....In fact I thiiiiink I just used an extra rear mount through bolt I had around.
