I purchased my 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX in 2010. Since then, I have installed 4 clutches and am on my second transmission with the first having to have the shift fork replaced, before breaking the shift fork again.
I was also plagued with the notorious 1g clutch pedal assembly play and so on. I could never figure out why I kept breaking springs in the disks and having shifting issues. Well, I finally fixed the issues. I rebuilt the pedal assembly, realized the my clutch master cylinder is not OEM and fabricated a push rod to actually be able to extend far enough to not have any slack, and fabricated my front motor mount to align my transmission up with a brand new starter plate and dowels.
I used my old disassembled transmissions bell housing and mounted it to the engine with the the starter plate. With the alignment dowels in place I cut and ground down an M8 threaded coupler, I believe this to be the correct size from memory, that I purchased from ACE hardware, to meet the motor mount bracket. I tack welded it in place, with the bolt threaded in and snug, to the bracket and rechecked fitment. I proceeded to fabricate gussets for the top and front. They eyes were tacked into place and fitment and alignment of the transmission was checked again. After everything was where I wanted it to be, I dropped some serious welds on this. I even used a backing plate that makes contact with the starter plate, so friction would not grind through the plate. There are more details to this, but I feel that a proper writeup is necessity anyone has this problem. Lmk if this helps anyone out.
