So I just replaced my clutch (2600) last week. Put a new pivot ball on in hopes of not having to shim it. When i tried to shift into ANY gear while the engine was running i had nothing. Tore it all apart Saturday and shimmed the ball and put it all back together... Still no shifting while engine is running. Both master and slave are new within the last year and neither one is leaking. I checked the pedal assembly for wear and it's also tight. I know there's no air in the line either because I didn't unhook it and the slave moves as soon as pressure is applied to the pedal. The only thing I have left to try is adjusting the master (per the jacks video) which I'll try tonight but when I was checking it out last night I had noticed that the rod is threaded flush with the pedal.

All this is on a 90 tsi. After the adjusting the master I have nothing else I can think of the check. Maybe I'm missing something? Any and all pointers are very much appreciated because I'm burnt out on this project at this point.

Goes into every gear with engine off and the slave is definitely moving when the pedal is depressed. I've literally covered every possible thing I can think of aside from adjusting the master cylinder and that'll be done this evening.

At this point I'm just hoping somebody chimes in with some dumb thing they've encountered while having this issue.

I specifically double checked that. I make it a point to do that because I had a hell of a time helping a friend figure out what his clutch issue was and that ended up being the reason.

So we just wrapped up on trying to adjust the master following the Jacks video. We currently have the rod turned almost the whole way out and still can't hit the block off point. Anybody got anything else to contribute? I'm completely fried now and have exhausted every possible option I can think of.

How do you know the pedal assembly is good. How did you specifically check for wear. tell us. Was this was a running driving car before the clutch change? What steps were done to the flywheel during this change? Did you service it and if so did you check the step height personally with a proper depth tool. Do not trust the Machine Shop did you check it personally?

The pedal assembly has no extra movement anywhere in the assembly. It's fluid from start to stop with no visible flexing of the cross shaft and can't pull up on it from it's highest position.

The car was my daily until it decided to spit a spring out from the clutch disc.

As far as the flywheel and step height... all i did was clean it. I don't have any tools to measure depth of anything and trying to get somebody to lend you even a nickel in my town is pointless. I mean... it seriously took me 2 days to even find somebody to help me adjust the master.

Was the master and slave replaced with specificly OEM equiptment? This is one of those areas on a 1g that has to be OEM as any aftermarket version doesn't quite do the trick... Jack has a thread on it somewhere out there, been there done that.
I use a 1g headgasket bolt washer to shim my pivot ball.
Did you push in the slave by hand and then release the bleeder and then tighten the bleeder before releasing the slave?

If your pedal has never been repaired etc I would do this. The grab it at the top thing isn't enough in my opinion. Grab the short lever the adjustment clevis attaches to and grab the pedal arm. Try and move them fore and aft relative to each other. If anything moves the pedal assembly needs repair

You could try and replace the master cylinder adjustment rod with a threaded bolt that is slightly longer so you have more adjustment. I doubt that is the issue though. Sounds to me like a defective clutch master cylinder. I would replace it.....again. What is your clutch bleed process?

The slave and master are both oem and working properly. I did a little more digging and messing around and it appears that my pedal assembly does have a little play in it. I'm gonna tear it out tomorrow and have a buddy weld it this weekend.
