A while back maybe a year ago, my upper radiator hose made a small split right where it connects to the radiator just before the clamp. It sprayed coolant everywhere and almost overheated. It was close enough to the clamp that i was able to just cut an inch off the hose and pull it tighter to the radiator and clamp it back down, problem solved right?... Well, it just happened AGAIN last night.

Is there a degradation problem with the stock rubber hose? Do i have too much pressure being built up?

I bought a rubber replacement but im wondering if silicone might actually be better?

It's probably just the hose being worn out. Replace all your radiator hoses, thermostat and fresh coolant at minimum. Also remember to inspect the surface of the radiator outlets for damage and clean them well before reinstallation. Sometimes the outlets can be cracked if they're plastic or corroded badly if they're metal to prevent the hose from sealing correctly and remember to not over-tighten the clamps, which can cause leaking issues after installation as well. Hope this helps.
