2g gst. I have a major overheating problem! I don't think my fans are working as intended. And when the engine overheats it starts burning oil from somewhere. I am curious if that's an indication of a failed head gasket. Please help me figure out what is going on. There are no performance shops located near me.

Check fuses/relays first. The a/c button activates one fan so keep it on for now. The other cycles at a certain temp so make sure it's turning on (it seems like it takes forever). Idk about a 4g63 but on my old 420a the coolant temp sensor worked in conjunction with the fan so when the CTS went bad the fan didn't work. Run the car with the rad cap off and make sure the thermostat is opening properly.
Buy/rent a compression tester (any parts store or harbor freight) and do a leak down test. Also rent a cooling system pressure tester.
How is it burning oil? Bluish gray smoke out of the exhaust? If it's sweet smelling white smoke it's coolant, and most likely the HG. Check your oil for coolant (chocolate milk), and if your coolant is old flush the system. Common overheating problems also include old rad cap, clogged rad, faulty thermostat, to name a few.

The smoke is blueish and looks to be coming from behind the engine somewhere. The oil still looks like oil. It's a lot lower then it was when the car overheated the first time.

Also my radiator is sealed.

How does one go about testing the relays?

Check to see if you have stock fans or aftermarket ones. If they're aftermarket, check to see if any of the fan wiring has been cut and spliced because there are directions on the internet on how to wire your fans to have both come on at the same time. If so, the connection could have come apart or have a short, especially if they didn't solder the connections. Hope this helps.
