Hey Guys, My build is now complete!! but I have hit a bump trying to get it to start and cannot figure it out. I need help diagnosing why my car will not turn over. The starter just "CLICKS"

At first i thought the starter was bad so I replaced it. But I soon realized that the new unit is doing the same thing as the old starter did. I have a made a quick video of what the car is doing. I am manually connecting power to the starter with the yellow wire

thanks ahead of time,

Drew

I found this VVVV
You’ll need to put on your 2nd gen starter bracket, but before you do this you’ll have to modify it. The bolt hole on the bottom will not line-up and you’ll have to grind a hole up and towards the front of the engine. Also the transfercase (AWD) will need more room to fit on. You’ll need to trim where that bottom bolt was, trim it almost back to the original hole and you’ll need to pull the metal out that’s above and to the back of the engine. You’ll see this all when you try to put on the transfercase and it won’t fit on. No worries though, it’s not that hard to grind and fit it when it is on the car.
I have a 2g starter plate. Could the starter be making contact with the plate? or hitting the flywheel?

I found the problem. The starter needed its own ground.

Okay edit. I got the car to turn now by manually introducing power to the starter. But the car will not crank with the key or even click.

-I discounted the clutch pedal switch.
-I swap the relays with each other. (I highly doubt that both are bad)
-key is making full contact.

no signal is being sent to the starter.

Any ideas? thanks Drew

If it doesn't do anything now at the key, it has to do with the ignition =)

Anytime you are fighting electrical problems, do yourself a favor and grab a set of jumper cables and clamp one black clamp to the negative side of the battery (GROUND) and then clamp the other side to the "suspect" problem area ground and see if it clears it up. Sorry I didn't see this post earlier, it could have saved you some time and cursing. It is an old mechanics trick as ground problems are harder to pin down than "hot" circuits are. :thumb:
