I backed out of my brothers place (like I've done for years) took off (I never BEAT the car), turned into my road, and when I down shifted to 2nd gear, before I could leave the clutch out, it engaged.. then I couldn't shift into 3rd...... or any gear for that. Its a southbenmd disc/plate/tob. Ever since I built the car, almost immediately, the TOB could be heard faintly spinning while the clutch was out. As soon as I pushed it back in, the noise would go away. Well, I got my car into the shop, and jacked it up, and had someone push the clutch pedal, and the fork window was travelling as it's supposed to. I then installed a new slave cylinder, bled it, and same issue.

Would you replace the clutch master? (travel window is textbook within parameters_) or dig in, and pull the trans? _ANY_ input is greatly appreciated,

This is just an opinion: if you can see the fork moving the way it suppose to them I would make sure you can actually shift the liver if that is all good then you know what's waiting for you. Can you get in the gear with the car off and then crank it and see if it will jump forward? If not then you know what to do: get some beer and curse some, smack something with BFH and get to it. My take is maybe fork is broken or pressure plate/clutch failed. Or internal trans which I won't condem until the clutch related issues are ruled out.

Jakk:
1) - The pedal has about 1.5" of freedom up top, but has resistance, and travels well to where it should disengage. It feels different than the original slave cylinder, but it feels like it's missing something.... almost like its not pushing the fingers of the pressure plate in.
2) - If I shut the engine off, the trans goes into any gear like butter.. that's how I got home, I shut it off, put it in 1rst, and started the engine. Drove about 3 blocks in first....................

Brembo:
If the engine's off, I put it into gear, and turn the engine over the car moves.. The fork is travelling the same distance with both slave cylinders. But I put it in neutral, start the engine, push the pedal to the floor, and I cannot put it in any gear. The TOB has been chattering for 6/7/8k miles... and it did clunk on me, right before I couldn't shift. Jeez... I hope I didn't break the fingers off the pressure plate. Should I put a new clutch master cylinder on, Before I take the trans out? just to be thorough?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!! the more feedback, mebbe all of us can come to some sort of conclusion...im saying bad pressure plate, or TOB. When I couldn't shift it into gear, the pedal Did go to the floor.. now the pedal feels like its missing some resistance.

You actually answering your own questions you put it in gear and that's how you got home. No wonder you drive a dsm hahaha anyways you seem to understand what's going on here. Your clutch system if you want to call it that way has failed. If you can get it in gear and start the car then something is wrong with the disangaing trans from the engine while started. I don't know what is wrong but I would love to see the final problem. I suspect pressure plate or clutch disk. Could be broken fork but that would feel wrong I would think. Think about it. If you can get moving in gear but can't shift while started then the transmission is not disangaging from the engine.

Sounds like one of the clutch disc springs has popped out of it window.

Well, i'll be removing the transmission very soon. I will keep this thread updated, as I make progress. I appreciate all the input, and hopefully I find the problem. Thanks.

the _thinner_ metal underneath the clutch mating surface, and around the springs on the disc broke. In short, it was a clutch disc failure. There was 1" - 2" pieces of metal laying in the gully around the flywheel bolts... no damage to the flywheel, replacing the whole nine. Including, OEM TOB, clutch fork, I had the flywheel resurfaced, and stepped. Let's see if this clutch kit, stays together for more then 8k miles. It _did_ operate text book style... Soutbend Pressure plates might be good, but the exedy disc blowz...

My slave and master cylinder had to be replaced. Took it to a mitsubishi dealership and they replaced the clutch, pedal, and fork along with cylinders. It kept jumping out of first and they said synchros would need to be replaced. Put about 1k miles on it. Driving home, heard and felt a loud thump. Engine shut down and had to be towed to house. Starter spins the flywheel, but no fire. Any ideas?
