hey guys im wondering what normal oil pressure should be. i still have the stock gauge, and i know its not the best but currently at idle when warm i sit just a little under the middle line and at wot or on the highway the gauge is high enough to clear the little oil emblem but never get too close to the second to last line. im running valvoline 20w50 vr1. im thinking about changing to 10w30 too see the difference in pressure

If memory serves oil pressure is 11.4 psi (or higher), curb idle speed, at operating temp (like 170-190 degrees). The low pressure light comes on at 7 psi. In my 2g (4g63T) it is a little over midway on the gauge when cold, drops just below half of the needle arc when warm. In the 1g (4g63) it pretty stays in the same place.

Normal oil pressure would depend on alot of different variables. But on a stock 4g63t pressure will usually be around 11-15ish psi at operating temp idle and increase at least 10psi every additional 1000rpm.
The stock gauge sucks, it's marks and where it's reading mean basically nothing. Just ignore that one and get an aftermarket.

That's exactly what my 2g does I have a stock gauge and was getting worried when I seen the needle rise to about 3/4 when I'm on the gas then drop back down to halfway at idle... So I need not worry?? And just get an aftermarket gauge

The stock gauge is horribly inaccurate. I'd just ignore it for the most part, and get an aftermarket gauge.

Hi, im having a problem 2 days ago and before that everything was good.
So keep in mind the temperature outside is 86f.
So the factory oil pressure gauge stay at the same level at idle, cruise and wot, it droped all the way down only when i turn off the car so that mean it is working but what can cause that.
Check the picture you will see the needle where it stay at any rpm.
Can someone help please?

As stated before, the stock gauge is uselessly inaccurate. Is not that they don't work, it's just that where they're reading doesn't tell you anything. One cars stock gauge might read halfway way at 20psi, another cars stock gauge might read 0 at 20psi. Plus they have no numbers anyway. If you want to know what your oil pressure is doing, you need an aftermarket gauge.

I know the factory gauge is not accure but i hear people saying that bad main bearing can cause that too and make low pressure and to be honest it is scaring me

If you're worried and you want to verify pressure, you need an aftermarket gauge, or at least some kind of test gauge you can screw into the sender port temporarily.

the gauge and sender on the stock system are only helpful if you have had the car long enough to know what it is telling you. and yes, they are not comparable car to car. my gauge never goes over the halfway mark and at warm idle is maybe at 1/4th. once you get use to where it normally sits you can watch for changes. if the car is new to you and you have no baseline and you have concerns about it for some reason, a real oil pressure gauge is a good option.

Ok so now my stock oil pressure gauge needle is not moving at all, it is mot reading anything.... As before it was was reading a bit high(3/4) just above have way, I was feeding my 16g from ofh just change it to the head, now oil pressure gauge is not reading...any ideas were to start?

Yep, the spade terminal that slides onto the sender has come off. Reach under the drivers side and slide it back onto the terminal on the sending unit. They come off pretty easy.

Get an aftermarket oil gauge :beatentodeath:
Haha, true. I just installed my autometeer this week after dragging my feet on it for a couple of months. I was going through all this trouble to run the stock gauge and my autometer together and finally decided to ditch the stock gauge. What a waste of time that was. There is no reason to use the stock gauge. Just buy an autometer and be done with it.

It is a good gauge to see Knock with but it isn't a good oil pressure sensor, that's for sure.
