I'm going to be swapping to these brakes, I already have the calipers, but I haven't bought the brackets yet. I know that stock 16" 3000gt wheels, will fit the 4 piston vr4 brakes ON a 3000gt vr4. However those are 314mm rotors, and the caliper is mounted directly to the factory hub.
I am not certain how the 13" cobra rotors, and the adapter brackets will alter the fitment.
I found a set of base 16" 3s wheels for reasonably cheap, and am trying to find out if they would fit, I am not ready to drop $1k on wheels for this car, but I'm already redoing the brake system and it would be nice to do everything at once.
If anybody knows from experience if these wheels will fit, or at least whether or not a 16" RIM(read the actual rim piece of the wheel) will clear the calipers, or if someone could just measure for me how much room they have between their caliper and X size wheel, or from center of axle to edge of caliper.

Looking for a prompt reply hopefully.

No dice Talyn, the Cobra rotor is bigger than both the Gen1 (11.62") and Gen2 (12.36") VR4 rotors, so you won't be able to run a 16" rim.

I made my own mounting bracket to use the 1G VR4 rotors and I am running EVO IIIV wheels and the caliper is real close to the spokes.

Right, I am tracking the rotor difference, as I mentioned, I know that stock 1g rotor is 314, cobra is 13" or 330mm if I recall. Which is part of why I thought it might not fit, and wasn't sure if the adapter bracket would push the already massively wide caliper out closer to the spokes.
I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get out the big boy wallet when it comes time and buy some new wheels.
Do any of you know if 17 or 18" wheels that fit a 2g vr4 will work? I assume that I should go off of that car for fitment? I know the 2g vr4 has larger diamater rotors, still not as large as 13" cobra though if I recall.
Looking at one of these 2 options:

Unless someone knows of a cheaper, reasonably light alternative, I really want to stay under 20 lbs, unless it's dirt cheap, like the $80 set of stocker 3s 16" wheels I wanted to get. I haven't checked the details, but I think EVO wheels will cost more than I'll want to pay for their weight. Anyone have any idea what the EVO wheels typically go for, and or what they weigh? Or which wheels will fit?
Basically trying to build a budget race car here, I'll spend the money if/when/where I have to, but for example why spend $1k+ for bbk kit, or brembos from an EVO when I can get a set of vr4 calipers for 300 that are damn near just as good

To figure out what the full diameter is with the caliper measure from the center of your hub to the top edge of your caliper so you can determine whether you can get away with a 17" rim, I think you should be in good shape. The real issue is clearing the spoke on the wheel you chose, I can tell you firsthand that the VR4 calipers are wider than the EVO Brembo's so that will be your real challenge. You probably won't like this but the RPF's have different clearance for spokes depending on offset and wheel width so it's a lot of trial and error to see if your setup will fit.

My track wheels are Rotas (bring the hate) but I haven't had any issues and they are cheap enough to replace if something happens. I also inspect my rims before and after events for any signs of fatigue, but I also don't have a thin spoke setup, I run Rota Grids (TE37 style).
