Hi Everyone,

I was gifted my friends 97 Eclipse Spyder to attempt my older teenage dreams of building a sick DSM. I used to have a 95 Eclipse in high school that had a lot of work done but had to sell it before being able to really give it a power upgrade. So I see this as a second chance to relive my old selfs dream. I am on here to get idea for a build. Turbo, supercharge, EVO swap?... any and all info is appreciated as I have been out of the wrench world for awhile now.

Thanks,

Andrew

If I remember correctly, a 4g64 is a an engine with higher torque and that won't be terribly useful on a fwd car. Is it already turboed?

See you are close by. Hope the build goes well.
A few things to consider as stated above. Placing a 2.4 in a fwd would be horrid to drive on the streets. Ever think about an AWD swap? If you go that route and make a 2.4 Im certain your smiles per mile would go up. Something to ponder.

Hey guys, thanks for the information! The 4G64 is non turboed. I heard of some people doing a blended build of the 63 and 64 but I don't think that is the road I want to go down.

My original plans were to do a GSX swap or and EVO swap to make it all wheel drive and boost the shit out of it. How difficult would it be for a GSX or EVO swap? If I left out the drive train would a 63T drop in easily?

While anything is possible I think your going to end up with a lot of frustration if your try to go through with your plans for this car. I only know of two EVO power plant swaps in the US. There may be more, but both of those appeared to be more challenging than anything I would ever see the value of. If it was me I would throw that idea out the window, but it's your car.

As for swapping in a 4G63T into N/T car, I would again caution against going down this road. You can readily purchase GST's, GSX's, and Spyder GST's for very reasonable prices nowadays. What your wanting to do is easily going to cost your double, or even triple, the cost of just buying as solid 2G DSM from the start. Along with the financial cost your going to be dealing with the swap headache that in the end isn't going to give you anything more than what you can just go out and buy. I wouldn't recommend swapping anything into something that doesn't give you some sort of advantage once finished, and this swap would fall right into this.

If you are up for a but of a project, then is not a bad idea IMO. A 4g63 would drop in there with no issues. Am in the process of doing same in my spyder, but am doing a stroker on my spyder and currently waiting on my pistons. Was initially going to do a 4g64/63 build but the block was no good. So i bought a 4g63 block and am using the 4g64 crank in it.

Do some research you'll find some different combinations to fit your need with the spyder. Good luck.

a dsm 4G63T makes more sense, as opposed to going with the reverse rotated 180* evo 4G63T. your spyder should already have the mounting points for the dsm 4G63T, why make more work for yourself welding in new mounts for an evo motor.

also another option to finding a dsm 4g63 is you can use the 2.4 block, and go de-stroker 2.1 using a 2.0 crank and custom internals but only if you can't find a good 4G63T.

Turbo your 2.4, keep it low boost, then if you want more (power) or less (traction), add turbo pistons and a aftermarket ecu.

I dont think you will want 500hp in your fwd platform...will you?
