2G My car fires for a split second but wont start? (SOLVED)

The engine is fresh, just put it in the car. Im trying to start it and it'll crank and suddenly stop, followed by a grinding noise from the starter on the flexplate. I have to crank it and give it gas and the engine will backfire, and release lots of black smoke from the exhaust. (I have no exhaust pipe on the car atm, its just the hotside of the turbo). When the car fires, I can hear all 4 cylinders fire and then back to cranking. Ideas?
 
For a few minutes maybe?
I just started it, and there's a constant noise in my cylinder head it sounds like if your engine was running and you took a piece of hard plastic and held it against the cam gear teeth. I revved it up to 5k, and the noise got WAY louder and stayed loud even at 1k idle
 
No :( im dumb and didn't. I put way too much assembly lube in the head, i pulled the cover and the lub is in almost all oil galley ports on the lifter rail. I let it idle for a good 2-4 minutes
 
Ok, I'll ask. Did you soak the lifters in oil before installation?
And don't feel dumb.
 
Well the reason I asked is because if you DID and didn't bleed the oil out with a paper clip in the center of the lifter it will be over full and bend valves on the first rotation. Ask me how I know.....you're not dumb. Keep asking. Keep trying.

They weren't full of fluid. Idk if maybe the assembly lube is too thick
 
Nah that stuff will squish out. I can't imagine it filling a lifter so it can't compress. :hmm:
 
Well you know what is next then. Is the car running? Idling?
 
ive heard of people having to run the revised lifters for almost a week before they quieted down. Sounds like yours are louder then normal though.
Lol i found out my flexplate bolts are rubbing my starter plate. Im not using actual thin headed flexplate bolts im using the traditional grade 7 m10 bolt from all over our cars. Haha

New problem. Its running perfect at idle. But when i put it in drive and give it any throttle it goes straight lean and will try to stall. I have to put it in neutral and rev it in order to keep it going. Im literally driving around the block
 
If your on link and sd then go for a cruise the do a sdadjust and apply it 3 or 4 times. Its your friend, let it help you.
 
Can you post a log of what the car is doing?
Yes i can. I got it to drive, but i found that it'll only drive if i give it 35-40% throttle. Thats when it'll actually out out good afrs. Any lighter throttle and it goes lean and falls on its face

Well actually I need to make a new log. It didnt log my drive just earlier.
 
Check your tps if you're throttle is opening before your tps signal increases voltage you can run extremely lean at light throttle inputs.
how do i fix that?? Because im pretty sure its doing this. Im gonna make a new post since this one has actually been solved. Follow me over to the new post. Ill state all mods and a log
