i'm working on the final assembly of my early 1g gearset trans..i will be using the larger 5th syncro/slider assembly from a92+ trans..what I have found is the early roll pin hole does not line up with the larger steel 5th shift fork!...so i have the later rail that goes with the larger 5th and the roll pin lines up for the fork but!..the "flag" at the selector is hitting the rail!...should i "clearance" grind the flag ??

yes its an early 91 bellhousing and selector...and i have the end cover that goes with larger 5th

Early 91 shouldnt have a different selector. If memory serves a rail doesn't exist to do what you want to do.
You would have to modify the end or change the rail and. If it's possible I would have chosen a different bellhousing. What is the stamping on the bell housing

ok...what i got going on is... i'm using the cast fork off the early 91 5th shift rail (#29 casting mark)...on the newer 5th shift rail!..that had a(#34) casting mark 0n it !! thanks joe

I had to grind a tad off the bottom of the later shift rail (mesured pin hole to bottom)...
all is well!:D
