Hey all, I've got a question for the car audio gurus floating around out there.

I just finished a custom fiberglass box with a divider for two 10" subs (2 sealed chambers). They are dual 2 ohm voice coil subs and I have a wiring diagram from crutchfield that I was going to follow (it's attached) so that I can keep the 2 ohm load into the amp but when I looked at the back of my mono amp I found 4 terminals set up in a +-+- configuration.

I was confused so I went hunting online for a diagram or walk-through on how to wire this config and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. My assumption is that I follow the diagram as far as wiring the voice coils but instead of wiring each sub together and then to the amp I can just run two separate pos/neg cables from each sub to the amp and it will do it's thing internally. I just want to make sure that doing it this way doesn't present a .5 ohm load or something else crazy so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Basically you have two ways of wiring 2, 2ohm dvc subs for a 2 ohm total load: the way you have it in your pic (series the vc's, then parallel the subs), or parallel the vc's and series the subs. I've noticed better response with the first option, but it all depends on the setup and tuning.

If your amp has 4 terminals, 2 positive and 2 negative, most of the time that means it can be bridged, or support two separate channels at the same load. If you check the manufacturer specs on the amp, they should have all info on wiring options. Usually I run in a bridged format (positive from one end and negative from the other), but you will want to check the manufacturers specs first.

Thanks for the response. I checked the specs and after reading some other forums monoblock amps can't be bridged, there are apparently 4 terminals simply to make thje wiring easier but what's frustrating is that noone seems to have a diagram of this "easier" solution.

Maybe the new image makes sense as to what I'm thinking I should do. Wire each chamber's sub as if it is the only DVC in the system and then send the two amp connecting wires separately and then the internals of the amp will bring the load down to 2 ohms.

I think I will hit up the manufacturer too because I am still confused but thought I'd chuck this option out for opinions, thanks
