Okay guys ive had my 1g now for a while i plan on doing a high hp build. No exact numbers its a auto, debating if i should finally start it its all gutted im not sure if i should have the tranny rebuilt or keep it with all the easy mods, tc stall, kiggily plates, shift kit, and try to find a used built motor or build my own, or finally get a super clean 2g more for show with maybe a 16g. Im more concerned about keeping the 1g in the 6k budget, i would like to see it start with a hx35 and eventually get to a 42r. Both will be a weekend car. Thanks guys. Oh also the market for nice clean 2g's right now seem almost impossible

Nice clean 2g's are hard to find for a good price. Especially being gsx. They are all hacked and listed as projects.

I wouldn't mind having a clean 2g. Love those things. Most of your budget will go to the full cost of a clean 2g. If your already have a 1g the I recommend continuing with the build.

True, i should have added i would use the full 6k for a clean 2g and keep is completely stock for a while, i want a drag 1g and a really clean 2g someday* haha. So 1 vote to going with the 1g

$6k is a good start for a drag car, but it will go quick. If you go that route make sure you spend it where it counts.

You can never have too many DSMs I say, but finding clean ones for a reasonable amount of money these days is next to impossible. And I know from experience having 2 cars in your possession itching to be modified can be quite the financial dilemma. Lol

I was in your your exact shoes two years ago. I found a killer deal on a stupid clean 2g and bought it. The first few months was like Christmas, drive a really clean 2g or a beast of an auto 1g. But tying up $6k+maintenance into another toy really financially delayed my goals for the 1g. So I had some fun with the 2g and eventually sold it.

I underestimated the time and budget needed to keep up with multiple DSMs. If you have the time and a big enough budget, I'd definitely recommend a 2g and 1g. Just know it'll take that much longer to get the 1g where you want it, depending on your situation.

maintenance on the 2 can be brutal. i DD a 2g and am building a 1g. but these are 20yr old cars and it never fails any time i start on the 1g i break something on the 2g. The 2g ends up with a lot of leftovers or parts that i originally bought for the 1g project car just because it needs it to maintain DD status. on the bright side, the vast majority of parts swap easily so upgrading 1 can leave spare parts for either.

I've been trying to sell a clean 97 gsx for months, I can't give the damn thing away. Every 1g I've ever sold moved almost immediately.

Sounds like my grandma, haha that is why i can say i am 26 and have a roth ira ive been contributing to sense i was 18, and now have 2 other retirements going, ive always been the smart kid of the 3, now back to the topic i found a machine shop that actually knows what a 6 bolt 4g63 motor is so i thinj i found a trust for a shop finally, he quoted 750-900 for all machine work to the bottom end. Does this sound right? Never had to deal with a machine shop yet. Thanks
