Over the last few days i've been plugging along at some of the boring stuff.

With this warm weather I finally got around to cleaning and painting my front caliper brackets. All of my calipers are ready to be mounted now! I believe I actually have everything to completely finish up the brake system.

This was stuck in the slide pin bolt hole, what a pain to get out!

As the top of my wastegate is getting powdercoated I figured I would freshen up the lower exhaust portion...I got a little carried away with the painting. I'm actually pretty excited to see the Type-S put back together! Black and blue is going to look sweet.

A blowtorch was used to cut the front bumper support for a big FMIC, it was in pretty rough shape. I spent a good amount of time grinding down the blobs of metal. I also drilled and tapped all of the bolt holes, there were snapped bolts in nearly all of them. I'm debating about getting some more metal welded back on to the support, it's pretty lacking.

I spent a good amount of time planning where I was going to mount my Evo X fusible link. I decided by the fuse box would probably look best.

I'm kind of bummed, I really liked where I had placed it only to find that the fusible link and cover don't fit because of the loom coming out of the fuse box. I had to turn it in order to get it to fit. I will revisit this because I don't like it being crooked.

I also found a good place to mount my MAP sensor. I made a simple bracket just to mount the sensor to it, then found a bolt hole on the firewall to place it. It's pretty close to the manifold so the vacuum line will be fairly short.

Yes that is what the fusible link will be for.

I found a pretty good article on what the Mitsubishi engineers did when they moved the battery to the trunk in the Evo X (see attached). It's a good read.

The only change I plan on making is placing an additional breaker in the trunk, just to be cautious.

Well it's front mount day.

I started by trimming on each side of the radiator. There is a body line that you can follow up and then cut out. It was perfect for the pipes to fit through.

Next I put the intercooler up to see what I was working with.

It looked like the tabs would work perfectly once the bumper support was on. The only issue is that the end tanks on the intercooler were hitting the inside of the bumper support. To remedy that I cut out a square on each side of the bumper support, just enough for the end tanks to slide in to.

This allowed the bumper cover to slide on, but the pipes would be in the wrong area. The intercooler was also sticking out pretty far.

To fix that issue I just cut off the tabs on the intercooler that were sticking out. This allowed me to push the intercooler in further.

I noticed that the driver side already had a threaded bolt hole.

The passenger side was identical, just without the bolt hole. So I made my own.

The metal is decently thick, I just decided to tap it. I’m not sure if this will hold up so I’ll probably just end up putting a nut on the back side.

The mounting is pretty dang easy. I just made two L shaped brackets to mount the sides.

It looks like it's going to fit perfectly!

After cutting off the tabs I’m not really sure if its necessary to cut the holes in the bumper support. I’m betting you can get away without cutting. Worst case a little massaging with a hammer.

It’s not permanently mounted yet. I still have to deal with the center support mount, but my center support is still being powder coated.

I do have to go back and file down the cuts I made to the body and add a couple layers of paint.

All in all I think the 1g VRSF kit is a great option for a GVR4. You can’t beat the price. It fits really well, you just need to make a couple modifications to the brackets. Although I guess I did already have a gutted bumper support, so I didn’t have to deal with cutting that.

@livedsm4g63 brought me another goody this weekend!

I'm surprised how heavy this thing is. I need to measure the hub thickness to see which batch this is from so I can buy the proper length bolts.

My laser cut baffle arrived. It was a bit more disassembled than I was hoping for. I didn't realize that it had to be welded together, I just thought it needed to be welded in to the valve cover.

Luckily I was able to find a local aluminium welder.

I hadn't really thought through the baffle part when I got the valve cover sandblasted and powdercoated. I should have got it sandblasted, welded the baffle in, THEN powdercoated. Oh well... lesson learned.

When we welded the baffle to the valve cover we only welded it to the inner wall. I didn't want the heat to screw up the finish on the visible part of the valve cover.

It's noticeable, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. At least I can cover it up with a spark plug cover.

A while back I came across EMX5636's battery setup on galantvr4.org. I was blown away by the trunk mounted battery tray that he made for his VR4. I wasn't really expecting a response, but I decided I would message him.

Thankfully he responded and agreed to make one for me!

I can't wait to get the battery and wiring situated so I can see this thing mounted! Thanks again EMX5636!

I got some more parts back from my powder coater. The bumper bar looks fantastic! It could almost pass as new, other than it being severely gutted.

The blue accented pieces look AMAZING. They turned out much better than I was hoping for!

PUrief6.jpg

I'm blown away by how amazing the Type-S looks. The black and blue is 100% better looking than the stock color.

9elpu6P.jpg

The powder coater forgot to disassemble the two pieces for my fuel filter. I had to cut a line through the finish to get it apart. It's not a huge deal as it is tucked down by the subframe anyway, nobody is going to see it.

I have a pretty big bolt list that I need to take to Fastenal to get my front bumper brackets/cover installed. When I bought this car the front end wasn't assembled... and I don't really know how it goes together. I'm hoping it's pretty easy.

Hey man i love the updates to this build i have to say i have some ideas im going to use on my new project.

Hey whats the goal i read the thread and take what i can from it i try to keep my saved build threads posted, i wanto t start a new thread soon. i liked the old build threads kept things easier to do.

Now that I have my brackets back from the powder coater I can start on my center intercooler mount.

Surprisingly this was a lot easier than I had anticipated. Again, the 1g VRSF kit fits amazingly on a GVR4.

I mounted the radiator and oil cooler as well.
