Ive actually got a similar project going right now, i built a mechanical unit but i wasnt happy with the amount of slop in the stock shift cables. It was similar to a ikeya shifter.. I am running a ppg 1st-5th dogbox and i didnt trust it. So now im working on modding a transmission case to accept a shift drum and new shift forks. Less to go wrong this way and it will be a true sequential trans. I respect your drive to build it, but there is a reason you don't see "add on" sequential shifters in race cars. In a street car it would be ok if you dont mind re adjusting your cables often. But if you look at your trans the front side closest to the rad is where your shift forks/rails are, i will machine a window in the case and add a housing for the seq shift drum. I may even be able to re use the forks and rails that are in the trans. You should post a few pics of your progress

Like I said I'm not racing just messing around and like the idea of a sequential.

Can you post a picture of the setup?

I think that is exactly what MTI Racing did to their transmissions. This thing shift like a lightning. They have the drum on the transmission too like what you are going to do. I would be interested in this aswell. Do you have some pics of the progress?

At this point all i have is some drawings i made. I have a thread on here somewhere where i posted a few pics of the shifter i was making, but put a stop to it when irealized it wasnt the way to go for what i want to do. I will gladly post pics once i get back onto that project. Every spare minute i have has been going into my freestyle jetski project. Ive got a 1000cc twin jammed into a tiny stand up hull with a big jet pump. The idea is that it will be able to backflip with a very small wake

The shifter has nothing to do with how fast a transmission will shift. Thats all to do with the internal workings of a transmission. Like my dogbox for example, it will literally shift as fast as you can throw the shifter. With that being said, if you were to slam the wrong gear, poof!!! Kaaaboooom!!! Get the broom. Thats why i want a sequential trans. When im out drifting my car the last thing i should be thinking about is what gear im trying to hit. The shifter just shifts. But yes, what i am doing is along the same idea. Just a different transmission. I will post pics once i get back onto that project

Sequential is the shifter. its nothing to do with inside the transmission.

I will probably eventually get one of these shifters because normal shifting a dogbox is not that much fun, sequential would just be funner.
A true sequential transmission can only shift up or down 1 gear at a time. Most sequential transmissions are in motorcycles and shift with forks riding in grooves in a ratcheting drum.

Our trannies only shift in a H pattern. You'd need some external box mechanism to make it shift "sequentially". So if your shifter is sequential doesnt make the tranny sequential. That is what i was trying to say.

That was a treated evo 3 trans in my car at that event. Ive upgraded since. I cant wait to get bak to the track!!! I love doing that with my car

Yup, i should have it done over the winter. I will post some pics soon

No i dont have a build thread, im running a ppg 1st-5th db with their center diff. Kaaz 1.5 rear and quife front. I did use a cusco 65/35 center when i was running stock/helical tranies.. But had to ditch that diff when i built the dog box.

lets see some pics!

a sequential shifter would be nice... planted a seed LOL

I picked up this sqs sequential shifter as a "do for now" while i keeping working on a true sequential trans conversion. Ive always wanted to try one and who knowa i could be surprised. It looks like a well made unit and opperates perfectly.
